That bit Mira posted really underscores the impact that basic lack of leadership has taken on the show. Don's not a perfect broadcaster-- as the latest iteration of his show has reinforced-- but he always was the balls, the basic competence, of the Don and Mike Show.

It's a tough thing to put one's finger on. It's just, like...there are no grown-ups in the studio anymore, you know? Not that Don is necessarily all that grown-up in the grand scheme-- he's demanding, he's thin skinned, he throws tantrums, he refuses to take responsibility when shit goes sideways-- but he was this alpha, masculine energy that drove the show forward. He was the ambition of the show.

Now we have Mike, who would obviously rather be passive, rather take a vacation day than not, will show up and do his bits when he's fed good material, but isn't the insane ambitious workaholic leader Don is; you've got Robb, who has basically built an emasculated/feminine identity around being Mike's bitch; and you've got Oscar, who might be ambitious and smart but who isn't in a position to break out of his junior partner status (he's at his funniest when he's being kind of an impish, shit-stirring prankster on TMOS, or the effeminate metrosexual foil to Chad Dukes' Alpha Male on BOAD).

Buzz leaving kind of robbed TMOS of the last grown-up it had, the last person on the show willing to kind of roll his eyes at Mike and Robb. (Which, let's be honest, is probably kind of why they're glad he's gone.)

To make a baseball analogy, which LFF would get if he knew anything about sports (and he doesn't), the failcast is as if you took a reasonably competent, but slow of foot, second baseman, and asked him to play shortstop full time. LFF just can't cover the ground. Rob(b) is like they pulled the fat kid out of the bleachers, and stuck him in left field. Every fly ball shows how outmatched he is.
