Oscar is sadly mistaken if he believes that he's going to learn some secret knowledge in his MBA program that is going to enable him to make TMOS a success. It's about the content, first, last, and always. If the content sucks then no marketing campaign or business plan is going to magically drive subscribers to the show. You would be better off taking a fraction of the money you would spend on tuition and hire some writers and creative types to revamp the show, seeing as how Mike and Robbbbbb are unwilling or unable to come up with any fresh ideas. (I know Oscar isn't getting an MBA to help the show; he's out of there the day he graduates and gets a real job offer, but maybe the bored heiress would invest some more of her hardly-earned money is something that would actually result in an improved program. Of course she thinks the show is great as it is. She "gets it.")

I assume Oscar's family is hounded him on the MBA, I think he got a comm degree from WVU (lol). There are tons of good night school MBA programs in this area: JHU, GT, ... UMD is pretty good too.
None of those are Ivy League MBAs, which is when the doors really open up for you.
If he is doing this to appease his parents, no problem.
If he thinks a night school MBA from Hopkins will impress VCs he is sadly mistaken.

MBAs make sense if you are working for a Fortune 500 company, manage dozens (or hundreds) of people, and want to boost your bonafides for a push to a C-suite position. Oscar's resume doesn't support this at all. Nobody is going to look at his MBA and then look at his work history and say, "This is a guy I want managing a division of this company." As for being a better business manager, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerburg are business legends and didn't even finish a four year degree. Running a business is about bringing in more money than you spend. You keep your eye on that, everything else takes care of itself.

To call us "Cultural Cancer" would presume that TMOS would have any claim on our collective culture, like Rock N Roll, fast food, JayZ or the Super Bowl. Fact is, TMOS is not relevant enough to considered part of our culture. It's not relevant enough to be seen as pertinent to entertainment, radio or podcasting, for that matter. People with no broadcasting experience have jumped into podcasting since 2009 and not only quickly surpassed TMOS in the medium, but maintain that advantage even today. The ONLY place TMOS is relevant is this thread. We are not the Failcast's cultural cancer. In the end, we may be the only record of TMOS's existence outside of its ever shrinking and insular microcosm of fans.

I kinda admire Oscar and his hustle. He's the smartest of the three (gold medal in the special olympics Oscar, congrats!) and definitely the bravest and hardest working. He gave the podcast thing a serious effort but he's smart enough to see it's petering out and he's planning for the next phase of his career. LFF is hoping it holds on long enough for him to pay the bills until he can cash in his retirement savings, 59 1/2 years isn't that far away. Roob is just going to ride it out to the bitter end because he has nothing else to fall back on. He'll be a 45 year old Walmart greeter, or maybe his friends at Costco can get him a job handing out samples. And when people ask why the podcast fell apart he'll make some stupid, meaningless excuse like "all I did was everything they asked."
I have met so many executives who are dumb as shit, but they know how to schmooze. Smarts aren't everything in the business world, and of all the failcast crew Oscar has the best business executive skill set by far.

Grandfather died, and the rest of the heirs understandably wanted to sell the home. I recall his story about when his aunts, uncles and cousins were dividing up the household possessions and Spewak got so pissed about that process that he left and went upstairs or someplace. Spewak then rented a place for a couple years before buying his current manse.

Having the day off today I decided to check in on the live show, it's hard enough listening to the podcast, but the live show is positively unbearable now, I only made it about 20 minutes before I gave up.
I listen to a lot of different podcasts, one that I thought was pretty obscure, it's just one guy that talks about his daily life. He was taking some questions from his audience and the subject of download numbers came up. He averages 100,000 a day. His shows are 1-2 hrs long, 5 days a week, but really how can a guy that did a 2 hr podcast 2 weeks ago about raising ducks have better numbers than TMOS? He also does all his ads at the beginning and end, so he's got that on them too.

Over on the ACS board, dime for scale, there was some good analysis of the iTunes rankings and download numbers.
At the start of TMOS, they likely had much higher DL numbers and they seem to have leveled off at about 20k.
With no real ads or push, the LFF's has a stable audience that isn't very big. They just moved TMOS to the pod and it failed when it was on the radio, so I'm not sure why the krew thought it would light iTunes on fire
