I believe a healthy wad of $1's ought to do it, no more than $20/30.

That coupled with some bullshit about being a successful local business man should seal the deal. Tell her you have largest fleet of door-to-door meat vans in FFX county - she'll swallow that story.

After all, Carlita let MOM tell her he was a successful broadcaster!!

There should be!! She's had 300+ lbs. of greasy, sweat oozing, alcohol venting man-mountain rolling on top of her skinny ass for several years now.

Serious, serious discounts are in order!!

Probably not a solid source of info particular to the Mike O'Meara Show, but for those of you on twitter you might consider following "chaddukes" (it appears to be the real Chad).

Recent tweets include:

"Chaddukes is hearing the same things you are."
"Chaddukes is flabbergasted with the business he works in."
"Chaddukes is preparing for the inevitable."
"Chaddukes is not about to slander CBS on twitter."

Admittedly I enjoy the BO&D show via podcast from outside the area. It ain't stellar stuff and they're certainly not Rhodes scholars, but I laugh more than I ever did at Mike's solo "effort."

Sounds like Big O & Dukes are getting the ax.

So Hughes is going to can the cheap talent and, what, keep the expensive Junkies??? Why is this guy still employed?

Maybe Rob(b) will go get a Master's Degree from Tech or UVA, since after all, he could have gotten in either one for undergrad, he just chose to go to VCU because Richmond is so much nicer than either Charlottesville or Blacksburg. I wonder what Master's program braying like a jackass and repeatedly asking, "Who are you?" prepares you for.....oh, and interupting every time anything remotely interesting or funny happens.

Robb - ratings poison, you need to be fucking fair.. sometimes Robb is just downright boring with no tendency attached at all.

He should go back to wearing diapers and clown suits on the street, with Mike allowing fans to hurl abuse at him in varied forms.

T'would be a mistake, IMHO. The sense I get is that the whole station may be getting the axe, meaning BO&D (and possibly the Junkies) could surface somewhere else. Hey DC folks...does Clear Channel still have a presence down there? Emmaus? Bonneville? Evergreen? I'd listen in for a Dukes-centered show... hell, if I were a PD I'd do that in a hot second and bid adios to Oscar, Mike et al...

Buzz-kill looks positively scary!!

As for the OnA comments on JFK...were they really positive? I didn't hear, but OnA had a big battle with D&M in their New York days, and subsequently they knocked D&M and the Junkies in the post Stern, "Free FM" days.

Anyway, I suspect OnA, now relegated to a tiny XM audience don't want to see any all-talk stations go, because that's thier territory, and it's disappearing...for the time being.

The US radio business is the definition of insanity, that is, trying the same thing whether it be all-talk, sports-talk or AMP and getting the same lousy ratings and then trying the same formats slightly re-branded so the knuckle dragging public won't know the difference, with the expectation that ratings will soar.

Nevermind developing and nurturing new talent!

The MOMS is a classic example, what evidence did CBS/Michael Hughes have that MOM on his own would work as a re-branded D&M show, with the mad/crazy assed radio genius (Don) long gone!

If JFK flips, let's hope the bathwater (Hughes, CK) are thrown out with the babies...

Google, Microsoft and the other big tech companies are working on technologies to deliver Internet radio on car radios. Don't worry. These guys will be back, and without the FCC interference.

The industry has always been like that. The reason why FM spawned the AOR and "guy talk" formats is that back in the 60s and 70s all the big radio companies focused on AM and didn't care about FM. FM was open territory. That's how guys like Cerphe and Donny G. were able to get their foot in the door. That's why Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody were so big, because they were being played on the FM side of the dial where nobody cared if a song was longer than 2 1/2 minutes.

Today, AMP or Now isn't any different than Jack or George or whatever bullshit CHR format is out there. Those formats are all targeted at low-hanging fruit...the insipid and vacuous morons who listen to Kane and Jack Diamond and actually believe they are funny and original. I think there was a lot of hope that XM and Sirius would return radio to those truly "Free FM" days of the 70s, but that hasn't happened because the same companies than ran FM into the ground have shares in the satellite companies(y).

The only hope for radio is Internet Radio. Something that is delivered by small companies with people who care about what they are doing more than making a buck. That is, until Clear Channel or CBS figure out some way to fuck that up, too.

I don't think JFK posts schedules on the web site...but I wonder if JFK flips, will MOM just sit on the bench 'til CBS finds him a home? Is is "talent" worth that much effort from CBS?

I don't think he has a future in sports talk or AMP - and based on his PPM's, he doesn't have any future in "talk" radio.

If CBS does the sensible thing and jettisons MOM, maybe he resurfaces on something like 1580, in other words: "Nowhere".

If that happens, start clipping coupons Carla, the gravy train will be well and truly over - you are in fifth place sweetie, right behind two ex-wives, two kids
and creditors from the restaurant debacle!

Not unless they are contractually obligated. Unless Michael Hughes was allowed to negotiate the contract, I would have to assume CBS has the leeway it needs to cut Mike after April.

He may pick up a gig somewhere, but at a fraction of what he was making before. He probably could do well do a Jack Diamond-style show in a 2nd Tier market like Richmond or Baltimore.

Yeah, I think he has too much pride to do that. Like I said, he could be a big fish in a small pond like Richmond or Baltimore.

Remember when D&M used to do the segment, "Make us Laugh?" Remember when callers would call in with jokes, trying to get Don, Mike and Robb to laugh? Mike would typically crack up first, but Robb almost never laughed.

Then Mike does a lame joke about getting fired in a fortune cookie and Robb explodes in hysterical laughter like Mel Brooks just shit out George Carlin and Richard Pryor during a Steve Martin show. What a fucking fake.

Yes, Rob(b) has built an impressive broadcast resume - he's built career credentials that qualify him to be Flounder's intern @ EITM!! Rob(b) is worthless and he knows it. He's got to find a sugar daddy 'cause he ain't gonna make it in radio on his own.

I have to take issue with Donnie G's Twitter quote as reported by DCRTV wherein he refers to JFK's "bad management" and "radio talent".

JFK is chock-full of "bad managment", world class in fact.

As for talent:

Used to be some talent in the morning (Junks).
Promising talent mid-day (BO&D).
The black hole of radio talent sucks all indications of entertainment in drive time (MOMS).

"bad managment" doesn't get you last place ratings and stations dropping your show, Mike did that all on his own. "bad managment" just kept his crappy show on the air for too long.

"Bad management" does do that if "the talent" listens to "bad management" and does what "bad management" asks in order to keep the "bad management" happy. Unfortunately for "the talent," the ultimate decider of success isn't "bad management." It is "the listeners" who either choose to tune in or tune out.

In the Michael Hughes era @ JFK, there really has been only one "success" which I would say is the Junkies survival, not success, in AM drive time.

The O'Reilly and Jim Rome fiascos, the canning of Ron and Fez, OnA (the latter with little or no support) are but a few of Hughes' disasterous missteps.

Overall, you have to look at the guy and say: What the fuck qualifies you for a decision making career in radio?

Couple day-time programming disasters and one very luke warm success with a total abandonment of night time and weekend programming give you...

One big, fat cluster fuck of a radio station.

It took Michael Hughes about six years to blow everything up in the wake of Howard Stern's departure, but he's succeeded!!

In closing, here's a picture of MOM, Rob(b) and Buzz in happier, D&M days...

I don't know how you would qualify The Junkies as a success...even a modest one. You have four guys who have nothing to say bouncing around in 17th place in the market. They suck. They are boring. They are 40-something frat boys who really have nothing of interest to say. Seriously, if I had a 40-something neighbor who rambled on about stupid shit like these guys do, I bunch the bitch in the face. Nobody would hang out with that fucking guy. NOBODY.

I don't. I should be clear - I think their "survival" is the closest thing to a success JFK has had in the post Stern days. And that's pathetic.

They are lazy-assed hacks, who do less show prep than MOM, they blab about nothing until CK tells them to shut up so he can break for commercials. CK and Hughes are all about the $$ now that CBS radio has revenue problems.

It doesn't seem like any of these guys are busting their humps at remotes like they were a couple of months ago. The writing has probably been on the wall for quite some time and I think they are phoning it in even more than they were before. I guess I give these lazy bastards credit for showing up each day (of course, there is probably some pay-out at the end for them if they do).

I think you are on to something here - the Junks will survive if the flip is to sports talk, so they may be gliding into a new format, knowing JFK is in the PPM toilet, so why do more than the bare minimum 'til the flip occurs? That works out perfectly on planet Junkies, home of the lazy.

If the flip is to AMP or another music format, the Junkies are gone so they don't give a shit.

On the other hand, I don't listen to JFK much at all, but I do hear the crew at MOMS trying hard to "entertain", witness Rob(b)'s braying and foced laughs - it's almost like the MOMS crew is auditioning for the next gig. But, given this titanic failure, who will hire them? Who is going to pay fat MOM enough to cover alimony/child support, Carla's expenses and the remaining rent on O'Meara's restaurant, etc., and also foot the bill for the remainder of the crew (well, those that aren't CBS employees).

I wonder if the shows have continued the "we are family" cross promotion and happy talk that was started when Donnie G. left, the "family" was returned to FFX, and they were all magically "buddies" and "drinking pals"?

MOM - the weather forecast indicates a hard rain ss gonna fall!

Maybe this is why...

Not a good week for CBS Radio in the radio ratings. With four major FMers in the DC market, its stations placed 14th, 17th, 18th, and 22nd. Radio One's gospel WPRS surged up to 6th. February, week three, Portable People Meter radio ratings for DC, full-day, age 12+: 1) WTOP, 2) WASH, 3) WHUR and WAMU, 5) WIHT, 6) WPRS, 7) WRQX, 8) WMMJ, 9) WWDC, 10) WETA-FM, 11) WBIG, 12) WKYS, 13) WMAL, 14) WPGC, 15) WGTS, 16) WMZQ, 17) WTGB, 18) WLZL, 19) WJZW, 20) WAVA and WTEM, 22) WJFK. More: 23) WPFW, 30) WFED and WTNT, 34) WACA and WYCB and WILC.....

Hey, CBS. FIRE MICHAEL HUGHES ALREADY!!!!

I'm sure Mike is probably making all kinds of promises to keep "the family" together. But no station is going to buy that package. If Mike wants to stay in the DC market, he is going to have to go solo...probably for much less than he is making now and quite possibly in a part of the day clock he's not used to working in (mid-days?). Buzz will find work as a commercial guy. Beth Ann will go back to NC to sell carpet. Robb will use his Degree from VCU to secure a high-level management position at his local Pizza Hut. And Joe, well, Joe costs nothing, so WJFK will probably keep him as a board op, where he can take "smoke breaks" and hit buttons for AMP or NOW or Whatever.

Rob will probably be kept around to push buttons too. After all, I think that's basically what he's done in the past. Hell, given JFK's propensity to give former interns management positions that they don't deserve (CK, Cameron Grey, Lisa Broyhill), Rob(b) could end up as the PD one day.

I have them maybe ten minutes yesterday @ about 5pm. And it was a mistake.

They had some old drunk called "Mystic Meg (Peg?)" on to help predict EVERY FUCKING NCAA FIRST ROUND GAME.

First, someone should fire that idiot Beth McBride for booking "Mystic Peg". Second, even a complete moron like MOM should know reciting every matchup and trying to get "Mystic Peg" to distinguish between colleges she's never heard of was radio poison.

BTW, "Mystic Peg" sounded like she was drunk. Stupid f'ing Rob(b) brayed like a donkey when O'Meara mentioned any college: MOM: Cha-ton-oo-ga, Rob(b): BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Jesus Christ almighty - this is "radio talent"?

There was an unexpected moment of hilarity: MOM asked "Mystic Peg" when the current recession would end. "Peg" rambled on and then said, "when you are fired from a job, it's God's way of leading you to bigger and better things!".

Rob(b) said: "I'll have to make a note of that, getting fired is a good thing".

It is fat boy, for your audience. ESAD.

I'll have to admit, the mystic was a hoot. First off, she says: "OK, who on the show has a foot problem?". Silence.

The she says: "Who's hiding money in a drawer?". Silence.

It was cringe-worthy radio at it's best.

Beth Ann McBride should travel around FFX with a brown paper bag over her head. She is the positively worst "producer" in the history of Washington, DC radio.

Maybe Beth Ann can bring her mad radio production skills with her to the carpet showroom floor.

Beth Ann: "What kind of carpeting are you looking for?"

Customer: "I don't know. What do you recommend?"

Beth Ann: "Well, there is some ugly brown carpeting right here. Why don't you buy it? It's cheap, too."

Customer: "What about that beautiful champagne textured plush carpet on the other side of the showroom?"

Beth Ann: "You don't want that. That would require me walking across the showroom floor to show it to you. You should buy this brown stuff right here. It's not very good, but it is cheap and easy to get."

Customer: "When did you stop giving a fuck?"

Beth Ann: "Can you stop doing what you never did in the first place?"

She was probably working in the Traffic Department and probably said some negative things about CBS that Donnie thought were a hoot.

Even though Donnie G liked calling her when she was in NC, I seem to remember that he bitched about her work ethic a lot when she was producing their show the first time...especially when it came to getting good guests. I guess Donnie was right about her.

Could be. It also could be he got super fucked up last night at "Finnigan's" or wherever the fuck the MOMS had their St. Patty's drink-a-thon last night.

On the other hand, I doubt MOM would be stupid enough to call in hung over after a SPD party - but I don't want to overestimate his intelligence.

Before "Mystic Meg" started blabbing yeserday MOM said Rob(b) was pouring another Crown Royal at 5pm. Now that was three hours before the SPD apperance, so.....

Maybe our long, local radio nightmare is really over!!!!!

PS-Carla, three words for you baby cakes: Costco, Shoppers, Coupons!

I think Ricky "Cakes" looks like an oompa loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or one of the little dudes from Wizard of Oz.....

A fat, depressed, soon-to-be unemployed Irishman getting wasted on St. Patrick's Day? What are the odds?

He sounded drunk when I tuned in. Then again, he sounds drunk most days.

Maybe the dumbass gave CBS cause so now they don't have to give him severance when they fire his ass.

Something tells me Carla will be smoking the pole of some Vienna lawyer in the back of his 7-series before she steps foot in a Costco.

Drinking at work is generally frowned upon nowadays - hopefully the crack MOMS staff didn't get yesterday's drinking approved as a bit and the whip came down...

+1/Word.

After their lengthy cohabitation Carlita should be able to siphon off and remaining money MOM hasn't squandered. You are right, there are 50 lawyers in Vienna that will take that case "Pro Boner".

Note to MOM's second wife and daughters: Coupons, Shoppers, Costco.

Speaking of LOL, why do I always do that when I hear MOMS is running a "Best Of" show?

MOMS best of show starts: 03/18/09 15:00:00 DST, ends: 03/18/09 15:02:30.

Because it is an oxymoron like "military intelligence," "compassionate conservative" and "Mary's logic."

they were talking to Tony Perkins today about American Idol with Mariah Carey. The Tony perkens show with mike as mimic sidekick would be a better bet than the MOM show they have on now.
