A two-vehicle crash killed a South Carolina man and snarled traffic in northern Virginia Monday.
Virginia State Police say the crash happened on westbound Interstate 66 around 3:45 p.m. when the driver of a BMW lost control of his vehicle, crashed into a guardrail, then crossed back into traffic.
When crossing back into traffic, the BMW struck a Ford Explorer, causing the Explorer to flip several times.
The driver of the Explorer was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the SUV. He died at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the BMW was not injured. Virginia State Police say charges are pending.
Traffic was blocked on I-66 for the extent of the evening commute, with drivers being diverted onto Route 50.
