Ultimately the principal at each school needs to decide what they want their athletics programs to be. Chase championships with kids that didn’t grow up in your communities at the expense of the kids that dreamed of playing for your school or simply develop the kids you have and live with the results. If your goal is to win every game there’s really only one way to do that now and it’s collecting talent. I have no issue with either path, but don’t pound your chest about what you’ve accomplished when you’ve pulled talent from all over to create your team snd your competition is playing with neighborhood kids.

Overton’s brother is the DC and Jeff Overton is his son and they have legit moved into the Hayfield district. A few others have as well. The problem is going to be when he tries to bring the private school kids in.

Alexandria City: You can’t do worse than 0-10
Fairfax: 7-3ish, soft out of district schedule
Lake Braddock: Will lose 1 game and win the division
Robinson: A .500 team at best. Hayfield’s old HC would’ve been better suited as DC instead of OC
South County: Lost their QB and others but I’m sure they’ll bring others in. Will loss to Braddock and the MD school
Woodson: 1 win team at best
West Potomac: Expecting another .500ish season
West Springfield: They lost a lot, don’t know what to expect

South County will also lose to Hayfield and Madison, maybe even Fairfax. Could be a rough year in Lorton

Really? The poster above just pointed out there will be only two decent (not great) teams in the Patriot with 3rd best being only 7-3? That spells parity at best with the Concorde-nothing clear there. Unless the Patriot dominates the Concorde in their crossover games to get at least 5 of 8 teams over 500, they aren't going to be the best district.

Just branch out your interests PWC Stafford and Loudoun have produced some good teams over the past few years… I know I know that Stafford and parts of PWC aren’t considered “NVA” but in reality a drive out to those parts truly isn’t that bad once every other week if the schedule is lacking out here

JEB Stuart, excuse me Justice, is looking for a HC. Theirs either quit or was fired…he only lasted a season. Not an ideal time but they wouldn’t get a top candidate anyway. And their ADSA (who was their football HC up thru 2022) just left to become a DSA at another school so I don’t think anyone in that school knows how to run an athletics program.

One of the tricks is to claim homeless. Then you can enroll where ever you want. I’m told that is one of Overton’s methods. I was also told 28/36 kids that dressed for the state championship were not zoned for Freedom HS in middle school. Hayfield kids better find a new school because they won’t see the field at Hayfield.

Because Overton didn’t develop Freedom kids. He brought in his youth all star team and we he left so did they. There was no program there just some mercenaries. They got a better offer at Hayfield.

Rumor is, the new principal at Hayfield and overton know each other from working together at Freedom. PWC was getting ready to fire overton over the recruiting and embezzlement stuff, so Hayfield makes a move for overton and his mercenaries. Hayfield’s new Principal and AD tell overton they will help him get all his Freedom kids into Hayfield, and he can use the fields at Hayfield to run his youth league ( New principal and new DSA are obsessed with winning a state championship).

Also a rumor, Hayfield hallways flooded with freedom football players already.

This is all Hayfield’s new principal and AD.

What will FCPS and VHSL do?

The poster said Overton didn’t develop the kids at Freedom HS. If he developed kids that grew up in those neighborhoods there would still be kids ready to play for Freedom HS next season. He has developed his PME kids, but those kids were pretty talented to begin with.

I’ve been on coaching staffs against him, not ashamed to say we were on the receiving end of an ass whooping, don’t take an issue with it, think it’s unnecessary to call timeouts up 40-0 with 23 seconds remaining to score on the last play of the game… that’s something he has done on multiple occasions to teams that are much less talented than the borderline D3 team he gets to coach (and I’m not even referring to the time he put 112 points on the board)… That is one reason I say I don’t like him… I think he’s an above average coach but he knows as well as anyone that PME is why he is where he is now… and tbh that’s not even a real shot at him

23 transfers and counting at Hayfield. Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire. I give this two years or less before a lot of people tied to this are forced out of their jobs. Too many moving parts for everything to be above board and you know that someone in the Hayfield community or surrounding communities is going to find something against the rules at some point. In the end the adults will simply switch jobs and the kids will lose eligibility.

100% agree, but under VHSL rules each transfer must have made a real housing move which requires them to not only have a valid Hayfield address in which they are residing each day, but also have to vacate their previous residence. If one athlete provides false information the team will have to forfeit every game that player has played in. FCPS will have people following these kids home at some point. They’ve done that for years.

Outside of the kids providing false addresses (yes it’s already documented), the “spring practice” they’re having has already gone over the maximum Vhsl allows. Everyone else is following the rules but if you say something about Hayfield, now we are attacking them. Come on now. Coaches are losing jobs to cheaters. Just do it the right way.

High profile former players have trouble coaching HS not because they don’t know football, but because they don’t like doing laundry, painting fields, riding yellow buses, and dealing with parents and school staff. Those things weigh heavy on all coaches but especially those that didn’t realize or know that it was part of the job.

Knowing the game and being able to coach the game are very different. They fail because they don’t know how to teach/coach the kids. You can’t run HS like a pro team. All the stuff you mention doesn’t cause the team to lose on the field which is what happens often with these type of hires.

I think the kids at SB will buy into what he says, don’t think a lot of kids will leave for other schools

I wonder how Edison, West Potomac and Mount Vernon will look next year. I have recently become very fond of sports, so I don't know much about it. Thanks to the help of https://uktopwriters.com/ I have time to watch the previous matches. I never thought that football could be so interesting

Bro, everyday I’m on Hayfield RD I see them practicing, nothing is shut down. Overton does whatever he wants, he isn’t following anybodies rules.

Hayfield is ticking time bomb. It’s not if, but when. He’s borderline at best with many issues and he get tripped up on something at some point. My guess is this lasts less than 3 seasons but he may win 2 more state championships in the meantime. He’s playing with an all-star team.

If Fcps doesn’t shut this down right now, remove the coach, his staff, the AD, and the principal. They are telling the rest of the county that it’s ok to use addresses in the schools boundaries and the kids can still live in a different county. (Yes, everyone knows that they are cheating, I don’t care how much people on here suck on Overton. He is a liar and a cheater). Anyway, if Fcps doesn’t shut this down, right now. It’s just telling other coaches from fcps that it’s ok to recruit and bring in kids from other counties or school districts.

This can ruin sports in Fcps, and it Will take years to recover.

Sad to break it to you bud, he’s not going anywhere until he wants to leave… This “crashing down” thing some of yall want to happen… already happened lmaoooo at Freedom, thats why he is at Hayfield where the AD and Principal are both former coaches and will help him do what he does while keeping it within the FCPS guidelines… Im sorry, but I do wonder how a Hayfield dynasty would be any worse for the county than when Westfield or Centreville was on top, sneaking in kids from Manassas

Oh yeah, that 2013 Centreville team had plenty of kids who didn’t live in their district

Also, “ruining sports in fcps” is a joke lol South Carolina and Georgia were both at Hayfield this week, I think that’s a good thing for fcps sports, eh?

Just saw LBSS had over 100! Kids at their SPRING workout session… Why hasn’t that program reached the level of Madison, Centreville or Westfield yet? It certainly isn’t a lack of talent! I don’t remember the last group of Seniors that hasn’t played with a D1 QB!!

Jesus is this why football sucks so bad around here- people like you are making the players? Probably “coaching” them through little league too. SMH Who gives af if a school has 300 kids at a spring practice? 2/3 won’t even make it to August. And who gives af about a D1 QB? South County hasn’t been too bothered by that.
