There are some churches/faith based institutions that are corrupt, but I have yet to see anywhere, credible information showing the management or anyone affiliated with this center, whether sponsors, volunteers, or folks there, who are part of some organized conspiracy. Thought disorder has been considered the primary defining feature of schizophrenia since psychologist Eugen Bleuler first coined the term for certain sets of behaviors in patients as “schizophrenic” in 1908. In fact, the name of the condition itself is etymologically based in a reference to a “schism” in the continuity of thought or state of the brain. Thus, schizophrenia could largely be a psycholinguistic matter, for thought disorder makes itself known through the speech and writing of patients. An exciting suggestion is that “schizophrenia is fundamentally a semiotic disorder, a disorder of the recognition and use of sign relations (word-to-object, thought-to-object, and object-to-object), because after all, “the first symptom of schizophrenia is often a sense that everything in one’s environment is filled with special meaning”.
Almost paradoxically, researchers and clinicians have excluded purely linguistic observation and data collection from interest in these abnormal speech phenomena and have instead looked past patients’ language as though it were no more than an indication of abnormal psychological behavior. In other words, behavioral understanding and treatment have primarily motivated researchers and clinicians to take interest in schizophrenic language as a reflection of patient personality, and not the language itself. As a result, modern schizophrenic research has consisted of flawed or incomplete studies by psycholinguistic standards and researchers have produced a number of dead-end studies. A century after the formalization of schizophrenia as a psychological condition, there remain numerous areas and questions that are absolutely untapped or unanswered.
Research and conclusions of schizophrenic language behavior branch into two major eras. The first consists of both the preliminary observation of what is often described as confusing language behavior that corrupts the collaborative communication process with a “normal” individual, and of a later sub-era in which clinicians and linguists performed studies that inspire or pursue the question of abnormal schizophrenic language being a behaviorally-rooted issue or a linguistically-related one: Is thought disorder caused by language malfunction? Or is language malfunction a symptom of a thought disorder rooted deeper/ less specifically in the human brain’s cognitive hierarchy or map? (Hint: it’s probably both.) Consider this patient account:
When people talk to me now it’s like a different kind of language. It’s too much to hold at once. My head is overloaded and I can’t understand what they say. It makes you forget what you’ve just heard because you can’t get hearing it long enough. It’s all in different bits which you have to put together again in your head – just words in the air unless you can figure it out from their faces.
The second major era involves much more linguistically-directed study of schizophrenic language use in the interest of advancing both linguistic and psychological fields, facilitating psychological diagnoses in the latter through systematic or even computerized analysis of patient language samples.
An important caveat to bear in mind when considering research on the topic is the seemingly limitless number of theoretical possibilities a researcher could add or subtract to his or her model of analysis. With respect to language the question of the nature of schizophrenia opens up to even more positions for consideration. A recent study of the writing of Hebrew-speaking schizophrenics and computerized detection of schizophrenic features contained therein examines the question from the assumptive standpoint that “some of the underlying processes in schizophrenia are evident in writing, thus demonstrating that oral language that sounds ‘schizophrenic’ represents fundamental underlying impairments in cognitive and language processing rather than processing related to the pressure of on-line production of verbal material, environmental stimuli or interpersonal interaction.” These researchers are in fact drawing their own lines in the philosophical sand, so to speak, so as to define the boundaries of and approaches to their object of study in a way that is appropriate or conducive to the research at hand, and such lines could vary from study to study and objective to objective. In this Hebrew-based study, the researchers mention in the introduction 2 major theoretical assumptions that underlie their research, which tests and demonstrates the viability of computerized methods in distinguishing schizophrenic writing. The first theoretical assumption is linguistic and claims that written production and oral production are indicative of the same cognitive and linguistic impairment in processing, as a broad group, and the second is psychological and claims that these underlying impairments, not environmental, social, or other behaviorally related stimuli are responsible for schizophrenic sounding language production. These researchers will then go on to refine their position further to pursue linguistic deficits in patients. Methodology, procedure, and standards are hardly codified nor should they be rigidly so with so many undiscovered explanations when it comes to both schizophrenia and language.
The first major era of study produced many differing as well as many methodologically questionable conclusions. These methodological problems are worth extensive mention because to at least some extent, they undermine conclusions. Early research of schizophrenic language was performed by clinicians who used behaviorist methods. Data collection was subjective and described in varying terms, such as “vague and woolly” or “like an onion coming unpeeled”. Schizophrenics were only observed in their language behavior when it exhibited “deviance” or failure and compared to normal speakers without ever being observed in a normal state themselves. Furthermore, it was the clinician or researcher than deemed the schizophrenic language confusion, so truly their study is of what is confusing to perceive, not produced confusingly. These subtleties and nuances are constant factors.
Nonetheless, the descriptive work itself from this era forms the foundation for analysis and modeling of schizophrenic language use. Schizophrenic speech can be marked by unconnected discourse or narrative and problems with association control and be confusing to follow. The patient could be practically engaged in a monologue. Word salads of meaningless word combinations and neologisms of self-coined terms as well as affected voice and unintelligible speech or poverty of speech are also prevalent in schizophrenia.
Some aspects of schizophrenic language can be attributed to thought disorder, schizophasia, both, or even other possibilities besides these two main possibilities considered by researchers. “Dysphasia-like” symptoms such as unintelligible speech and lexical problems are referred to as schizophasia, “a deviant linguistic behavior observed in certain – not in all, by far – people considered to be schizophrenics,” and represents the “phenomena that characterize the deviant use of language by schizophrenic speakers”. Thought disorder is a central and inconsistently defined primary concept in schizophrenia and is “manifested by irrelevance and incoherence of the patient’s verbal productions.” Thought disorder affects the “executive function and pragmatics,” resulting in failure to maintain a discourse plan. These two categories could overlap and are not the only possible source of abnormal language use in schizophrenics. For example, the schizophasic phonological behavior of clanging or glossomania can derail a discourse plan which would be a symptom of thought disorder.
Current research reflects clinical need for an automated diagnosis that is liberated from human error or judgment bias, and a great deal of purely linguistic research has therefore arisen from a computational linguistic need to make the many elements of discourse and writing accessible to a computer. This requires that a survey of “schizophrenic language, level by level, from phonetics through phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics” be performed and that the schizophrenic behavior of these elements correspond to one of at least two different though not necessarily distinct kinds of impairments, thought disorder or schizophasia.
GlaxoSmithKline funds research into just this. Their 2005 study done as part of the Computer Analysis of Speech for Psychiatric Research is extremely concise and presents its findings along these very lines, greatly meriting study and summary as one of the more linguistically motivated descriptions of schizophrenic language. To the introductory student, this article is a gold mine. It outlines its theoretical assumptions offset against their historical backgrounds, presenting which findings these authors are taking seriously and into consideration as the underlying premises for their work. It then presents a linguistic description one linguistic feature at a time – it is sincerely a task in post-modern anthropology.
Extending from pragmatics, discourse or narrative behavior can be studied through both spoken and written samples of patients’ language because items of interest are cohesion, reference, and coherence, while cooperation and collaboration along Grice’s maxims is observed in verbal conversational behavior and visual organization, and cues of communication are observed in writing samples. At this level which is the most obviously disordered, patients do not make sense even if their grammar and pronunciation are intact.
Some study has shown that cohesion, establishing reference and keeping it “clear without excessive repetition of words”, is impaired in both thought-disordered and non thought-disordered schizophrenics. Coherence, on the other hand, deals with how connected the propositions within a discourse are. Schizophrenics at times appear to be following more than one discourse plan at a time, resulting in language that is confusing for “normal” speakers of the language. Schizophrenic discourse lacks an overall structure. The lack of coherence and cohesion contributes to the breakdown of Grice’s maxims in terms of cooperation because patients’ answers to questions are “off-topic, rambling, and uncooperative”. These language abnormalities make treatment and therapy even more difficult. Association control is often cited as the culprit for confusing-seeming discourse, though models differ. To me it seems that to the schizophrenic their propositions seem coherent because of a failure to control semantic and phonological neighbors that are activated as the discourse progresses. According to principles of glossomania, conversation about moving a chair from the garage into the kitchen might quickly result in a debate over apples, because the semantic neighbor, for example the table in front of the speaker, is dressed in an orange table cloth that is the same color as a fruit, which is what an apple is. However, the listener does not see the associations or the great meaning like the schizophrenic must see it, which leads to consideration of the cliché idea that the madman ceases to be insane upon meeting someone who understands what the heck he is talking about. Failures in cohesive maintenance of discourse, on the other hand, might be the result of impaired concentration in schizophrenia, a cognitive issue, while incoherence is a psycholinguistic one.
Bleuler said that “the very appearance of a piece of writing often permits one to recognize the presence of schizophrenia”. Schizophrenic writing displays the same discourse failures as schizophrenic speech, but writing involves a visual aspect that researchers of course cannot observe in speech (Automated Characterization and Identification of Schizophrenia in Writing, 2). Placement and position of letters and margins as well as letter size and capitalization might simply look schizophrenic because they vary greatly. These schizophrenic elements in writing can be psychologically interpreted for therapy and treatment in terms of how they emphasize or communicate psychological issues or concerns of the patient. Linguistically, analyzing the patterns and behavior in a writing sample can reveal information about the patient’s mentality or clarity of mind in that very moment. For example, a survey of a sample for prescriptive grammatical awareness of the usage of the three “there’s” can tell us if the patient is conceptually shifting the meaning behind their utterance from an existential matter (there) to a possessive one (their), or if a patient has consistently forsaken capitalization but begins using it properly elsewhere in the document, it might indicate moments of clarity.
The handwriting of schizophrenics can be extremely illegible and a remarkable downturn in adult handwriting is said to be a warning sign that a loved one has schizophrenia, but is often marked by subtler features such as varying pressure (“Effect of Schizophrenia on a Patient’s Handwriting”). Still, some truly bizarre behavior is exhibited, like mid-word single letter capitalization or strike-through. Schizophrenia is a very dark condition whose primary characteristic manifests in patient language. Psycholinguistic research of schizophrenic language is more necessary now than ever because successful psycholinguistic research will offer an understanding of the nature of schizophrenia that could potentially offer relief to patients who suffer from schizophrenia. Furthermore, and to the linguist much more importantly, schizophrenic language is a very empty field in terms of psycholinguistic research and conclusions, which could be extremely beneficial for linguistics, and if a model is successful with respect to schizophrenic language, it could in turn be successful with respect to all natural language; a specific example of a linguistic debate that could finally be definitively settled is if writing, speaking, and perception belong to the very same processes or are related in other ways or not at all, depending on how these observed aspects of linguistic behavior are affected by schizophrenia. A more permanent and direct link between schizophrenia and language is worth exploring for the purpose of understanding both items better.

Psychotic disorders are a group of serious illnesses that affect the mind. What Are the Symptoms of a Psychotic Disorder?

What Causes Psychotic Disorders?
The exact cause of psychotic disorders is not known, but researchers believe that many factors may play a role. including stress, drug abuse and major life changes. In addition, people with certain psychotic disorders may have an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain. How Are Psychotic Disorders Diagnosed?
If symptoms are present, the doctor will perform a complete medical history and physical examination to determine the cause of the symptoms. How Long Does It Take to Get Better?

To those who've been supporting it, either loudly or quietly (David Meyer, City Council), perhaps now this is the evidence needed to say, do we really want this in our backyard? The folks here speak perfectly, for the multitude of reasons, of why the Lamb Center should be shut down. I am so sick and tired of being panhandled in the areas surrounding it, or from the folks who actually walk from the Lamb Center to score extra money for their booze, drugs, or these habits.

Its so great that businesses, schools,and neighboorhoods nearby have to have this bullshit around them. David Meyer, why not vote for a methadone clinic as well? That might be just what the City of Fairfax needs as well. Now, that these posts have been shown to display exactly what the Lamb Center is, a corrupt disgusting organization that facilitates criminal and other undesirable behavior, its time to shut it down.

I doubt the tlc facilitates criminal behavior such as the last poster stated. I believe the intentions of the tlc are honest in nature. I'm sure when the lease runs out and whom ever owns the property does not resign it the tlc will be gone forever due to the new zoning laws that were passed last year. I have expressed my problems that I have with the tlc in a few posts prior and would like to see it removed from the city.

Do me a favor, and look a the City of Fairfax arrest records. See how many of them are no permanent address or 3220 Old Lee Hwy. Considering arrests are only making a dent, let's say 25% on a good day, lets multiply that by a reference of four to see what is a result of TLC.

They are pretty good folks, I've tried to discuss with them ways to set up CCTV on site, they were declined. Also the discussions of having volunteers make rounds around the city observing what folks that go there are doing, ie. panhandling, etc, those were also declined. They are trying to help people, but in order to help a population where mental illness, criminality, and also booze/drug addictions are prevalent, you can't just have open doors with little to no follow up. TLC is more on the no follow up tangent, and who knows, they could be setting up shop next door where a new building is under construction.

There are a lot of volunteers here, and yet they don't decide follow through. That alone is my beef with TLC, although I do have concerns about it being close to neighborhoods(makeshift shelters appearing), schools(passed out people at night on Rebel Run), and drug and booze paraphenalia.(Bridge down by TLC, Trail by TLC)

The WORST of the WORST 'types' from all over the entire DC Metro area region and beyond - by simple 'word of mouth' communication amongst the ranks of these same relentless criminal-types that refuse to change-up are showing up to get consistently advocated by the LC managment no mater how CONsistenely wrong they usually always are when inter-acting with the more honest-needy homeless ones.
Anywhere else you go with places like this one the management there will most usually 'zero-in-on' these types and run them out for rightfully they should not be there at all - given a reasonable Christian-like amount of time - to 'change-up' - and if they do not , they are asked to leave and not return, affirmatively and without waiver. All the HONESTLY needy ones are not supposed to have to suffer because of these few 'bad apples'. Instead, the LC management does, too consistently, just the opposite, which again, perpetuates the rest of the major problems that is un-waveringly getting the place shut down and punishing the very ones the place was intended for. The HONESTLY in need homeless ones!
It's simply, in itself a moral CRIME what is allowed to continue there without it being shut down before-hand!

What is psychosis?
A person who is suffering from an episode of psychosis can have problems recognising what is real and can have difficulty thinking clearly as they normally would. When someone is affected in this way they may have unusual or strange ideas, they may hear or see things which are not real and they may have problems managing their emotions.They may also have difficulties organising their thoughts so that their speech may seem disorganised and illogical at times. Psychosis has also been described as a condition that causes a person to lose contact with reality. Psychosis can severely disrupt a person's life. The person experiencing psychosis may have difficulty maintaining their usual level of functioning in school, work or homelife and it can also interfere with a person's normal development.

Psychosis is a treatable condition and if detected and treated early can mean that the person may never suffer another episode.

Signs and symptoms
The way in which a person experiences psychosis can vary greatly from one person to the next but there are some common symptoms which may occur during an episode of psychosis.

False Beliefs
A person may have strong beliefs or ideas, which are not real to others. These beliefs are usually fixed and the person has difficulty believing they are not true despite evidence to the contrary. Some examples of this are people believing they have special powers, thinking they are being followed or having a sense that they are being communicated with through TV or the radio.

Hallucinations
Hallucinations involve the five senses and affect the way in which a person interprets the world around them. When a psychotic episode occurs the senses are disrupted, a person may see things which aren't there, hear things which aren't there and even taste, smell and feel things, which aren't there. An example of this is hearing voices when there is nobody else around.

Confused Thinking
When a person experiences psychosis their thoughts can become confused and muddled up, it can be difficult to have a conversation with someone when this is happening because their speech can be confused and disorganised. Sometimes the person feels as though their thoughts are racing or that they are slowed down in some way.

Changed Behaviour
It is often the changes in people's behaviour during an episode of psychosis that draws attention to the fact that they are unwell. The person may have difficulty performing usual activities like schoolwork, paid work or hobbies. They may become more socially withdrawn or isolated. It is also possible that a person can become overactive or behave in a way that is unusual for them. They may engage in illegal activity such as using illicit substances or getting into fights with people.

Who can get psychosis?
Psychosis affects 3 in every 100 people making it a common illness. It can happen to anyone but usually develops in late teens/early adulthood. Psychosis affects more males than females but women tend to develop psychosis later than men. It occurs across all cultures and socioeconomic groups.

It is important to remember that psychosis can be treated successfully if people get help early. It is widely accepted that the earlier people get help the better the outcome. 25% of people who develop psychosis will never have another episode; another 50% may have more than one episode but will be able to live normal lives. Some people who develop psychosis may need ongoing support and treatment throughout their lives

What causes psychosis?
The exact cause of psychosis is not known but as it occurs in a variety of mental and physical disorders it's likely to have several different causes. There are many theories about what causes psychosis but there are no definite answers. It is believed that some people have a vulnerability to developing psychosis due to various biological and genetic risk factors and that stress, in combination with this vulnerability, can bring on an episode of psychosis.

Stress can be defined as a major life event such as a bereavement or change in social circumstances like moving house or unemployment. Stress can also be described as daily hassles such as not getting tasks done on time or worrying about a financial problem. The impact of stress on an individual with psychosis has been well documented and it has been noted that stress is a significant factor at first onset and also at subsequent relapse.

Phases of psychosis
Psychosis usually develops gradually over a period of time. It can happen that psychosis starts suddenly but this is not common, it generally occurs in three phases.

1. Early Warning Signs
Psychosis usually develops in late adolescence or early adulthood. This is generally a time of change for a young person so it can be difficult to recognise the difference between changes that are happening during normal development and changes that occur because of psychosis developing. However, there are common early warning signs that may happen before a first episode of psychosis. These changes can last for months but each persons experience will differ and not everyone will experience all of the "common signs".

Common Signs:
-Reduced concentration
-Reduced motivation
-Depressed mood
-Sleep disturbance
-Anxiety
-Social withdrawal
-Suspiciousness
-Deterioration in role functioning
-Irritability

2. Acute Phase
The acute phase is when the symptoms of psychosis begin to emerge. It is during this stage that the symptoms of psychosis are most noticeable and when the individual experiencing psychosis or their families begin to look for help.

3. Recovery Phase
Some of the symptoms that are apparent in the acute phase may linger in the recovery phase but with appropriate treatment most people successfully recover and return to their normal, everyday lives.

Types of psychosis
There are several different types of psychosis but when an individual experiences their first episode it is not always possible to determine which type they are suffering from. This is because many of the criteria used to identify a particular type are as yet unknown, for example the duration and severity of symptoms. Also, a comprehensive assessment is more likely to lead to a proper diagnosis. Mental health professionals will use information from several sources including the individuals own account, family history and physical examinations to create a picture of what is going on for the individual at that time. All assessments are completely confidential except in extreme situations.

Each individual's experience of psychosis may differ and although two people may have a similar diagnosis, their symptoms may not be the same and they may be affected by psychosis in a different way.

Here is a description of some of the types of psychosis:

Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a psychotic illness defined by the presence of the symptoms described before for a period of at least six months although these symptoms may last longer. Contrary to popular belief, a person with schizophrenia is not a person with multiple personalities.

Brief Reactive Psychosis
Psychotic symptoms arise suddenly, usually in response to a major stress. In contrast to other types of psychosis, the person may not have any of the common signs mentioned before and as the name suggests, the symptoms usually last over a shorter period such as a few days or a week. An individual experiencing this type of psychosis will usually make a quick recovery.

Organic Psychosis
Psychosis can occur as a result of a physical illness when normal brain function is disrupted. Such illnesses that have psychotic symptoms are AIDS or a brain tumour but not all people who suffer from these physical illnesses will experience psychosis.

Delusional Disorder
This type of psychotic illness is characterised by just one psychotic symptom, delusions. This is when a person holds strong beliefs that do not fit in with other people's interpretation of reality. The person may begin to act on these beliefs and this is normally when the illness comes to the attention of others.

Bipolar Disorder
People who are affected by this disorder experience extreme mood swings. They may experience highs (mania) and lows (depression) and psychosis can appear during either phase. The psychotic thinking usually fits in with the person's mood at the time, for example, if people are overly excitable they may believe they have special talents that other people do not have.

Psychotic Depression
In this type of psychosis the main feature is a severe depression but with psychotic symptoms happening at the same time. It is different from bipolar disorder in that the individual does not experience any mania.

Schizoaffective Disorder
This type of psychotic illness is similar to bipolar and psychotic depression in that there are symptoms of a mood disorder (depression) and a psychotic disorder. The difference is that the symptoms of either psychosis or mood disturbance occurs at the same time but there is usually a period of time when there is psychosis present but not mood disturbance. Throughout the total duration of illness, the mood disturbance represents a significant portion of time spent unwell.

Is psychosis treatable?
Effective treatments are available for people who experience episodes of psychosis. As with all illnesses an individual's recovery and overall outcomes are improved greatly by getting specialist treatment as early as possible. Current treatments are so effective that almost every individual can recover from a first episode of psychosis and the earlier the disorder is treated the greater the chance of a more complete and successful recovery.

Treatments include antipsychotic medication, group and individual therapy, psychosocial interventions, rehabilitation and training, psychoeducation, and family and individual support but not necessarily in that order. Determining the best treatment will depend on factors such as personal preference, how severe the psychotic symptoms are, how long they have been present, and what the apparent cause is.

The people that deliver these treatments are usually mental health professionals such as doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists and occupational therapists. People can usually be treated in the community by attending out-patient services or being seen in their home but in a small number of cases individuals will need to be in hospital for treatment.

Well, at the LC, the Director promotes in practice, the fat ones, giving them reserved front-line priveleges. Especially the ones already known to be getting plenty of government subsidy help with the coraled children they are bringing into the tiny place that's supposed to be and should be for the more needy, actual homeless citizens going there, and not the obviously rude, disrespectful illegals/immigrants jamming up the place every day, either.

Instead of bitching about the services, and illegals, why not show up at a city council meeting? You are a city resident, right?? At least, reside there? They have public hearings, bring up these issues, and call ICE. Let them roll out and take away the illegals.

I think this doesn't have any relevance between the God and satan argument, but rather free will. TLC was set up with kind thoughts and good meaning, but unfortunately has drifted away from this, due to being in a not appropriate setting and not having enough staff(ie. medical help, mental help, etc) in place for the deluge in this area, that is a reminder of the tough economic era we are going through. It is as simple as that. The best thing would be to avoid this Fairfax Underground, where your posts are visible, and do nothing but hurt TLC and folks trying to help. Go to folks whom can instead.

If my children or those I love are constantly harassed, or being hustled for money, I have a problem with it. Nothing to do with Christian faith, rather the reality of the situation. TLC is in the wrong place, many of its customers, right or wrong, are sex offenders. That's the bottom line. Should they be forgiven for their crimes after they've paid their debt? Yup. However, not forgotten, as they show a high rate of repeat offenses. Let's be honest here, and straightforward. Do the Lamb folks have a kind heart? Yes. This is an extraordinary period for America's economy.

Over the past few weeks, many Americans have felt anxiety about their finances and their future. I understand their worry and their frustration.

We've seen triple-digit swings in the stock market. Major financial institutions have teetered on the edge of collapse, and some have failed. As uncertainty has grown, many banks have restricted lending, credit markets have frozen, and families and businesses have found it harder to borrow money.

We're in the midst of a serious financial crisis, and the federal government is responding with decisive action.

We boosted confidence in money market mutual funds and acted to prevent major investors from intentionally driving down stocks for their own personal gain.

Most importantly, my administration is working with Congress to address the root cause behind much of the instability in our markets.

Financial assets related to home mortgages have lost value during the house decline, and the banks holding these assets have restricted credit. As a result, our entire economy is in danger.

So I propose that the federal government reduce the risk posed by these troubled assets and supply urgently needed money so banks and other financial institutions can avoid collapse and resume lending.

This rescue effort is not aimed at preserving any individual company or industry. It is aimed at preserving America's overall economy.

It will help American consumers and businesses get credit to meet their daily needs and create jobs. And it will help send a signal to markets around the world that America's financial system is back on track.

I know many Americans have questions tonight: How did we reach this point in our economy? How will the solution I propose work? And what does this mean for your financial future?

These are good questions, and they deserve clear answers.

First, how did our economy reach this point? Well, most economists agree that the problems we're witnessing today developed over a long period of time. For more than a decade, a massive amount of money flowed into the United States from investors abroad because our country is an attractive and secure place to do business.

This large influx of money to U.S. banks and financial institutions, along with low interest rates, made it easier for Americans to get credit. These developments allowed more families to borrow money for cars, and homes, and college tuition, some for the first time. They allowed more entrepreneurs to get loans to start new businesses and create jobs.

Unfortunately, there were also some serious negative consequences, particularly in the housing market. Easy credit, combined with the faulty assumption that home values would continue to rise, led to excesses and bad decisions.

Many mortgage lenders approved loans for borrowers without carefully examining their ability to pay. Many borrowers took out loans larger than they could afford, assuming that they could sell or refinance their homes at a higher price later on.

Optimism about housing values also led to a boom in home construction. Eventually, the number of new houses exceeded the number of people willing to buy them. And with supply exceeding demand, housing prices fell, and this created a problem.

BUSH: Borrowers with adjustable-rate mortgages, who had been planning to sell or refinance their homes at a higher price, were stuck with homes worth less than expected, along with mortgage payments they could not afford.

As a result, many mortgage-holders began to default. These widespread defaults had effects far beyond the housing market.

See, in today's mortgage industry, home loans are often packaged together and converted into financial products called mortgage-backed securities. These securities were sold to investors around the world.

Many investors assumed these securities were trustworthy and asked few questions about their actual value. Two of the leading purchasers of mortgage-backed securities were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the market for questionable investments, and put our financial system at risk.

The decline in the housing market set off a domino effect across our economy. When home values declined, borrowers defaulted on their mortgages, and investors holding mortgage-backed securities began to incur serious losses.

Before long, these securities became so unreliable that they were not being bought or sold. Investment banks, such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, found themselves saddled with large amounts of assets they could not sell. They ran out of money needed to meet their immediate obligations, and they faced imminent collapse.

Other banks found themselves in severe financial trouble. These banks began holding on to their money, and lending dried up, and the gears of the American financial system began grinding to a halt.

With the situation becoming more precarious by the day, I faced a choice, to step in with dramatic government action or to stand back and allow the irresponsible actions of some to undermine the financial security of all.

I'm a strong believer in free enterprise, so my natural instinct is to oppose government intervention. I believe companies that make bad decisions should be allowed to go out of business. Under normal circumstances, I would have followed this course. But these are not normal circumstances. The market is not functioning properly. There has been a widespread loss of confidence, and major sectors of America's financial system are at risk of shutting down.

The government's top economic experts warn that, without immediate action by Congress, America could slip into a financial panic and a distressing scenario would unfold.

More banks could fail, including some in your community. The stock market would drop even more, which would reduce the value of your retirement account. The value of your home could plummet. Foreclosures would rise dramatically.

And if you own a business or a farm, you would find it harder and more expensive to get credit. More businesses would close their doors, and millions of Americans could lose their jobs.

Even if you have good credit history, it would be more difficult for you to get the loans you need to buy a car or send your children to college. And, ultimately, our country could experience a long and painful recession.

Fellow citizens, we must not let this happen. I appreciate the work of leaders from both parties in both houses of Congress to address this problem and to make improvements to the proposal my administration sent to them.

There is a spirit of cooperation between Democrats and Republicans and between Congress and this administration. In that spirit, I've invited Senators McCain and Obama to join congressional leaders of both parties at the White House tomorrow to help speed our discussions toward a bipartisan bill.

I know that an economic rescue package will present a tough vote for many members of Congress. It is difficult to pass a bill that commits so much of the taxpayers' hard-earned money.

I also understand the frustration of responsible Americans who pay their mortgages on time, file their tax returns every April 15th, and are reluctant to pay the cost of excesses on Wall Street.

But given the situation we are facing, not passing a bill now would cost these Americans much more later.

Many Americans are asking, how would a rescue plan work? After much discussion, there's now widespread agreement on the principles such a plan would include.

It would remove the risk posed by the troubled assets, including mortgage-backed securities, now clogging the financial system. This would free banks to resume the flow of credit to American families and businesses.

Any rescue plan should also be designed to ensure that taxpayers are protected. It should welcome the participation of financial institutions, large and small. It should make certain that failed executives do not receive a windfall from your tax dollars.

BUSH: It should establish a bipartisan board to oversee the plan's implementation, and it should be enacted as soon as possible.

In close consultation with Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, and SEC Chairman Chris Cox, I announced a plan on Friday.

First, the plan is big enough to solve a serious problem. Under our proposal, the federal government would put up to $700 billion taxpayer dollars on the line to purchase troubled assets that are clogging the financial system.

In the short term, this will free up banks to resume the flow of credit to American families and businesses, and this will help our economy grow.

Second, as markets have lost confidence in mortgage-backed securities, their prices have dropped sharply, yet the value of many of these assets will likely be higher than their current price, because the vast majority of Americans will ultimately pay off their mortgages.

The government is the one institution with the patience and resources to buy these assets at their current low prices and hold them until markets return to normal.

And when that happens, money will flow back to the Treasury as these assets are sold, and we expect that much, if not all, of the tax dollars we invest will be paid back.

The final question is, what does this mean for your economic future? Well, the primary steps -- purpose of the steps I've outlined tonight is to safeguard the financial security of American workers, and families, and small businesses. The federal government also continues to enforce laws and regulations protecting your money.

The Treasury Department recently offered government insurance for money market mutual funds. And through the FDIC, every savings account, checking account, and certificate of deposit is insured by the federal government for up to $100,000.

The FDIC has been in existence for 75 years, and no one has ever lost a penny on an insured deposit, and this will not change.

Once this crisis is resolved, there will be time to update our financial regulatory structures. Our 21st-century global economy remains regulated largely by outdated 20th-century laws.

Recently, we've seen how one company can grow so large that its failure jeopardizes the entire financial system.

Earlier this year, Secretary Paulson proposed a blueprint that would modernize our financial regulations. For example, the Federal Reserve would be authorized to take a closer look at the operations of companies across the financial spectrum and ensure that their practices do not threaten overall financial stability.

There are other good ideas, and members of Congress should consider them. As they do, they must ensure that efforts to regulate Wall Street do not end up hampering our economy's ability to grow.

In the long run, Americans have good reason to be confident in our economic strength. Despite corrections in the marketplace and instances of abuse, democratic capitalism is the best system ever devised.

It has unleashed the talents and the productivity and entrepreneurial spirit of our citizens. It has made this country the best place in the world to invest and do business. And it gives our economy the flexibility and resilience to absorb shocks, adjust, and bounce back.

Our economy is facing a moment of great challenge, but we've overcome tough challenges before, and we will overcome this one.

I know that Americans sometimes get discouraged by the tone in Washington and the seemingly endless partisan struggles, yet history has shown that, in times of real trial, elected officials rise to the occasion.

And together we will show the world once again what kind of country America is: a nation that tackles problems head on, where leaders come together to meet great tests, and where people of every background can work hard, develop their talents, and realize their dreams.

Schizophrenia Symptoms and Diagnosis

There is currently no physical or lab test that can absolutely diagnose schizophrenia - a psychiatrist usually comes to the diagnosis based on clinical symptoms. What physical testing can do is rule out a lot of other conditions (seizure disorders, metabolic disorders, thyroid disfunction, brain tumor, street drug use, etc) that sometimes have similar symptoms.

Current research is evaluating possible physical diagnostic tests (such as a blood test for schizophrenia, special IQ tests for identifying schizophrenia, eye-tracking, brain imaging, 'smell tests', etc), but these are still in trial stages at only a few universities and companies and are not yet widely used. It will likely be a few years before these on the market, and adopted by hospitals, etc.

People diagnosed with schizophrenia usually experience a combination of positive (i.e. hallucinations, delusions, racing thoughts), negative (i.e. apathy, lack of emotion, poor or nonexistant social functioning), and cognitive (disorganized thoughts, difficulty concentrating and/or following instructions, difficulty completing tasks, memory problems). However, only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis and start a treatment program. The First Steps Towards Proper Diagnosis

The first step in getting treatment for schizophrenia is getting a correct diagnosis. This is important to do quickly because research has shown that the sooner you get diagnosed and treated, the better the long-term outcome (which is the same for all serious illnesses). This can be a more difficult than it might seem, because the symptoms of schizophrenia can be similar at times to other major brain disorders, such as bipolar disorder (manic-epression) or even major depression. Another issue is that a person with schizophrenia may be paranoid or believe that nothing is wrong with them, and therefore may not want to go to see a doctor. Because many regular family doctors may not be very familiar with schizophrenia, it is important to see a good psychiatrist that is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia.

Another way to do find a good psychiatrist is to contact a local support group that deals with brain disorders such as schizophrenia, and talk to the other members that already have experience with the local psychiatrists. Symptoms of Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is characterized by profound disruption in cognition and emotion, affecting the most fundamental human attributes: language, thought, perception, affect, and sense of self. The array of symptoms, while wide ranging, frequently includes psychotic manifestations, such as hearing internal voices or experiencing other sensations not connected to an obvious source (hallucinations) and assigning unusual significance or meaning to normal events or holding fixed false personal beliefs (delusions). No single symptom is definitive for diagnosis; rather, the diagnosis encompasses a pattern of signs and symptoms, in conjunction with impaired occupational or social functioning (Source: DSM-IV -available for purchase on Amazon.com Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV-TR).
Symptoms are typically divided into positive and negative symptoms because of their impact on diagnosis and treatment. Positive symptoms are those that appear to reflect an excess or distortion of normal functions. The diagnosis of schizophrenia, according to DSM-IV, requires at least 1-month duration of two or more positive symptoms, unless hallucinations or delusions are especially bizarre, in which case one alone suffices for diagnosis. Negative symptoms are those that appear to reflect a diminution or loss of normal functions. These often persist in the lives of people with schizophrenia during periods of low (or absent) positive symptoms. Negative symptoms are difficult to evaluate because they are not as grossly abnormal as positives ones and may be caused by a variety of other factors as well (e.g., as an adaptation to a persecutory delusion). However, advancements in diagnostic assessment tools are being made.

Diagnosis is complicated by early treatment of schizophrenia’s positive symptoms. Antipsychotic medications, particularly the traditional ones, often produce side effects that closely resemble the negative symptoms of affective flattening and avolition. In addition, other negative symptoms are sometimes present in schizophrenia but not often enough to satisfy diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV): loss of usual interests or pleasures (anhedonia); disturbances of sleep and eating; dysphoric mood (depressed, anxious, irritable, or angry mood); and difficulty concentrating or focusing attention.

Currently, discussion is ongoing within the field regarding the need for a third category of symptoms for diagnosis: disorganized symptoms. Disorganized symptoms include thought disorder, confusion, disorientation, and memory problems. While they are listed by DSM-IV as common in schizophrenia—especially during exacerbations of positive or negative symptoms (DSM-IV)—they do not yet constitute a formal new category of symptoms. Some researchers think that a new category is not warranted because disorganized symptoms may instead reflect an underlying dysfunction common to several psychotic disorders, rather than being unique to schizophrenia.

Diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia (USA criteria)

Characteristic Schizophrenia symptoms:

Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1-month period (or less if successfully treated):

Delusions - false beliefs strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence, especially as a symptom of mental illness: for example,
Paranoid delusions, or delusions of persecution, for example believing that people are "out to get" you, or the thought that people are doing things when there is no external evidence that such things are taking place.
Delusions of reference - when things in the environment seem to be directly related to you even though they are not. For example it may seem as if people are talking about you or special personal messages are being communicated to you through the TV, radio, or other media.
Somatic Delusions are false beliefs about your body - for example that a terrible physical illness exists or that something foreign is inside or passing through your body.
Delusions of grandeur - for example when you believe that you are very special or have special powers or abilities. An example of a grandiouse delusion is thinking you are a famous rock star.
Hallucinations - Hallucinations can take a number of different forms - they can be:
Visual (seeing things that are not there or that other people cannot see),
Auditory (hearing voices that other people can't hear,
Tactile (feeling things that other people don't feel or something touching your skin that isn't there.)
Olfactory (smelling things that other people cannot smell, or not smelling the same thing that other people do smell)
Gustatory experiences (tasting things that isn't there)
Disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence) - these are also called "word salads". Ongoing disjointed or rambling monologues - in which a person seems to talking to himself/herself or imagined people or voices.
Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior (An abnormal condition variously characterized by stupor/innactivity, mania, and either rigidity or extreme flexibility of the limbs).
"Negative" symptoms of Schizophrenia , these symptoms are the lack of important abilities. Some of these include:
Alogia, or poverty of speech, is the lessening of speech fluency and productivity, thought to reflect slowing or blocked thoughts, and often manifested as short, empty replies to questions.

Affective flattening is the reduction in the range and intensity of emotional expression, including facial expression, voice tone, eye contact (person seems to stare, doesn't maintain eye contact in a normal process), and is not able to interpret body language nor use appropriate body language.

Avolition is the reduction, difficulty, or inability to initiate and persist in goal-directed behavior; it is often mistaken for apparent disinterest. (examples of avolition include: no longer interested in going out and meeting with friends, no longer interested in activities that the person used to show enthusiasm for, no longer interested in much of anything, sitting in the house for many hours a day doing nothing.)

A short summary of a list of negative symptoms are:

lack of emotion - the inability to enjoy regular activities (visiting with friends, etc.) as much as before
Low energy - the person tends to sit around and sleep much more than normal
lack of interest in life, low motivation
Affective flattening - a blank, blunted facial expression or less lively facial movements, flat voice (lack of normal intonations and variance) or physical movements.
Alogia (difficulty or inability to speak)
Inappropriate social skills or lack of interest or ability to socialize with other people
Inability to make friends or keep friends, or not caring to have friends
Social isolation - person spends most of the day alone or only with close family

Note: Only one Criterion A symptom is required if delusions are bizarre or hallucinations consist of a voice keeping up a running commentary on the person’s behavior or thoughts, or two or more voices conversing with each other.


Cognitive Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Cognitive symptoms refer to the difficulties with concentration and memory. These can include:
disorganized thinking
slow thinking
difficulty understanding
poor concentration
poor memory
difficulty expressing thoughts
difficulty integrating thoughts, feelings and behavior

Social/occupational dysfunction: For a significant portion of the time since the onset of the disturbance, one or more major areas of functioning such as work, interpersonal relations, or self-care are markedly below the level achieved prior to the onset (or when the onset is in childhood or adolescence, failure to achieve expected level of interpersonal, academic, or occupational achievement).

Duration: Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least 6 months. This 6-month period must include at least 1 month of symptoms (or less if successfully treated) that meet Criterion A (i.e., active-phase symptoms) and may include periods of prodromal or residual symptoms. During these prodromal or residual periods, the signs of the disturbance may be manifested by only negative symptoms or two or more symptoms listed in Criterion A present in an attenuated form (e.g., odd beliefs, unusual perceptual experiences).

Schizoaffective and mood disorder exclusion: Schizoaffective disorder and mood disorder with psychotic features have been ruled out because either (1) no major depressive, manic, or mixed episodes have occurred concurrently with the active-phase symptoms; or (2) if mood episodes have occurred during active-phase symptoms, their total duration has been brief relative to the duration of the active and residual periods.

Substance/general medical condition exclusion: The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or a general medical condition.

Relationship to a pervasive developmental disorder: If there is a history of autistic disorder or another pervasive developmental disorder, the additional diagnosis of schizophrenia is made only if prominent delusions or hallucinations are also present for at least a month (or less if successfully treated).

Positive Symptoms of Schizophrenia
Delusions are firmly held erroneous beliefs due to distortions or exaggerations of reasoning and/or misinterpretations of perceptions or experiences. Delusions of being followed or watched are common, as are beliefs that comments, radio or TV programs, etc., are directing special messages directly to him/her.

Hallucinations are distortions or exaggerations of perception in any of the senses, although auditory hallucinations (“hearing voices” within, distinct from one’s own thoughts) are the most common, followed by visual hallucinations.

Disorganized speech/thinking, also described as “thought disorder” or “loosening of associations,” is a key aspect of schizophrenia. Disorganized thinking is usually assessed primarily based on the person’s speech. Therefore, tangential, loosely associated, or incoherent speech severe enough to substantially impair effective communication is used as an indicator of thought disorder by the DSM-IV.

Grossly disorganized behavior includes difficulty in goal-directed behavior (leading to difficulties in activities in daily living), unpredictable agitation or silliness, social disinhibition, or behaviors that are bizarre to onlookers. Their purposelessness distinguishes them from unusual behavior prompted by delusional beliefs.

Catatonic behaviors are characterized by a marked decrease in reaction to the immediate surrounding environment, sometimes taking the form of motionless and apparent unawareness, rigid or bizarre postures, or aimless excess motor activity.

Other symptoms sometimes present in schizophrenia but not often enough to be definitional alone include affect inappropriate to the situation or stimuli, unusual motor behavior (pacing, rocking), depersonalization, derealization, and somatic preoccupations.

Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia

Types of Schizophrenia
Paranoid schizophrenia - These persons are very suspicious of others and often have grand schemes of persecution at the root of their behavior. Halluciations, and more frequently delusions, are a prominent and common part of the illness.
Disorganized schizophrenia (Hebephrenic Schizophrenia) - In this case the person is verbally incoherent and may have moods and emotions that are not appropriate to the situation. Hallucinations are not usually present.
Catatonic schizophrenia - In this case, the person is extremely withdrawn, negative and isolated, and has marked psychomotor disturbances.
Residual schizophrenia - In this case the person is not currently suffering from delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech and behavior, but lacks motivation and interest in day-to-day living.
Schizoaffective disorder - These people have symptoms of schizophrenia as well as mood disorder such as major depression, bipolar mania, or mixed mania.
Undifferentiated Schizophrenia - Conditions meeting the general diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia but not conforming to any of the above subtypes, or exhibiting the features of more than one of them without a clear predominance of a particular set of diagnostic characteristics.

Misdiagnosis Issues

Because there is currently no physical test that confirms the presence of schizophrenia, and because schizophrenia often shares a significant number symptoms with other disorders, misdiagnosis is a common problem. According to one study surveying members of the National Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance, there is an average delay of 10 years from the first onset of symptoms to correct diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders.

However, getting a correct diagnosis is necessary for finding a treatment program that works for you.

Being aware of the potential for misdiagnosis, and knowing what other disorders may appear like schizophrenia or vice-versa, will hopefully help you get started on the right treatment as soon as possible.

From what I can understand here, you are against illegals. So am I. They suck every resource of this country, while sending it home. Yet, so do people that do drugs, drink, and then expect handouts. That could be described a sin, just as much as my going to work every single day, and living within my means, which aren't very high. Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

7:13And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, These that are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and whence came they? 7:14And I say unto him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they that come of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 7:15Therefore are they before the throne of God; and they serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall spread his tabernacle over them. 7:16They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun strike upon them, nor any heat: 7:17for the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them unto fountains of waters of life: and God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes.


8:1And when he opened the seventh seal, there followed a silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. 8:2And I saw the seven angels that stand before God; and there were given unto them seven trumpets. 8:3And another angel came and stood over the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should add it unto the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 8:4And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, went up before God out of the angel's hand. 8:5And the angel taketh the censer; and he filled it with the fire of the altar, and cast it upon the earth: and there followed thunders, and voices, and lightnings, and an earthquake. 8:6And the seven angels that had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. 8:7And the first sounded, and there followed hail and fire, mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of the earth was burnt up, and the third part of the trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. 8:8And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 8:9and there died the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, even they that had life; and the third part of the ships was destroyed. 8:10And the third angel sounded, and there fell from heaven a great star, burning as a torch, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of the waters; 8:11and the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. 8:12And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; that the third part of them should be darkened, and the day should not shine for the third part of it, and the night in like manner. 8:13And I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a great voice, Woe, woe, woe, for them that dwell on the earth, by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, who are yet to sound.


9:1And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven fallen unto the earth: and there was given to him the key of the pit of the abyss. 9:2And he opened the pit of the abyss; and there went up a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 9:3And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 9:4And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads. 9:5And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man. 9:6And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them. 9:7And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as it were crowns like unto gold, and their faces were as men's faces. 9:8And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as teeth of lions. 9:9And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war. 9:10And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men five months. 9:11They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek tongue he hath the name Apollyon. 9:12The first Woe is past: behold, there come yet two Woes hereafter. 9:13And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God, 9:14one saying to the sixth angel that had one trumpet, Loose the four angels that are bound at the great river Euphrates. 9:15And the four angels were loosed, that had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, that they should kill the third part of men. 9:16And the number of the armies of the horsemen was twice ten thousand times ten thousand: I heard the number of them. 9:17And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates as of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone: and the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceedeth fire and smoke and brimstone. 9:18By these three plagues was the third part of men killed, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which proceeded out of their mouths. 9:19For the power of the horses is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails are like unto serpents, and have heads; and with them they hurt. 9:20And the rest of mankind, who were not killed with these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk: 9:21and they repented not of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.


10:1And I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, arrayed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire; 10:2and he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left upon the earth; 10:3and he cried with a great voice, as a lion roareth: and when he cried, the seven thunders uttered their voices. 10:4And when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying, Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. 10:5And the angel that I saw standing upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his right hand to heaven, 10:6and sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created the heaven and the things that are therein, and the earth and the things that are therein, and the sea and the things that are therein, that there shall be delay no longer: 10:7but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then is finished they mystery of God, according to the good tidings which he declared to his servants the prophets. 10:8And the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard it again speaking with me, and saying, Go, take the book which is open in the hand of the angel that standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 10:9And I went unto the angel, saying unto him that he should give me the little book. And he saith unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but in thy mouth it shall be sweet as honey. 10:10And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and when I had eaten it, my belly was made bitter. 10:11And they say unto me, Thou must prophesy again over many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.


11:1And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and one said, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 11:2And the court which is without the temple leave without, and measure it not; for it hath been given unto the nations: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. 11:3And I will give unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 11:4These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks, standing before the Lord of the earth. 11:5And if any man desireth to hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth and devoureth their enemies; and if any man shall desire to hurt them, in this manner must he be killed. 11:6These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire. 11:7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that cometh up out of the abyss shall make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. 11:8And their dead bodies lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. 11:9And from among the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations do men look upon their dead bodies three days and a half, and suffer not their dead bodies to be laid in a tomb. 11:10And they that dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and make merry; and they shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth. 11:11And after the three days and a half the breath of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them that beheld them. 11:12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they went up into heaven in the cloud; and their enemies beheld them. 11:13And in that hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell; and there were killed in the earthquake seven thousand persons: and the rest were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. 11:14The second Woe is past: behold, the third Woe cometh quickly. 11:15And the seventh angel sounded; and there followed great voices in heaven, and they said,

The kingdom of the world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ: and he shall reign for ever and ever.

11:16And the four and twenty elders, who sit before God on their thrones, fell upon their faces and worshipped God, 11:17saying,

We give thee thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who art and who wast; because thou hast taken thy great power, and didst reign. 11:18And the nations were wroth, and thy wrath came, and the time of the dead to be judged, and the time to give their reward to thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to them that fear thy name, the small and the great; and to destroy them that destroy the earth.

11:19And there was opened the temple of God that is in heaven; and there was seen in his temple the ark of his covenant; and there followed lightnings, and voices, and thunders, and an earthquake, and great hail.


12:1And a great sign was seen in heaven: a woman arrayed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars; 12:2and she was the child; and she crieth out, travailing in birth, and in pain to be delivered. 12:3And there was seen another sign in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his heads seven diadems. 12:4And his tail draweth the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon standeth before the woman that is about to be delivered, that when she is delivered he may devour her child. 12:5And she was delivered of a son, a man child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and unto his throne. 12:6And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that there they may nourish her a thousand two hundred and threescore days. 12:7And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels going forth to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels; 12:8And they prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. 12:9And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him. 12:10And I heard a great voice in heaven, saying,

Now is come the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accuseth them before our God day and night. 12:11And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony; and they loved not their life even unto death. 12:12Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe for the earth and for the sea: because the devil is gone down unto you, having great wrath, knowing that he hath but a short time.

12:13And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman that brought forth the man child. 12:14And there were given to the woman the two wings of the great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness unto her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. 12:15And the serpent cast out of his mouth after the woman water as a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. 12:16And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon cast out of his mouth. 12:17And the dragon waxed wroth with the woman, and went away to make war with the rest of her seed, that keep the commandments of God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:


13:1and he stood upon the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns, and seven heads, and on his horns ten diadems, and upon his heads names of blasphemy. 13:2And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority. 13:3And I saw one of his heads as though it had been smitten unto death; and his death-stroke was healed: and the whole earth wondered after the beast; 13:4and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? And who is able to war with him? 13:5and there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and there was given to him authority to continue forty and two months. 13:6And he opened his mouth for blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, even them that dwell in the heaven. 13:7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and there was given to him authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. 13:8And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, every one whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain. 13:9If any man hath an ear, let him hear. 13:10If any man is for captivity, into captivity he goeth: if any man shall kill with the sword, with the sword must he be killed. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. 13:11And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 13:12And he exerciseth all the authority of the first beast in his sight. And he maketh the earth and them dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose death-stroke was healed. 13:13And he doeth great signs, that he should even make fire to come down out of heaven upon the earth in the sight of men. 13:14And he deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by reason of the signs which it was given him to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who hath the stroke of the sword and lived. 13:15And it was given unto him to give breath to it, even to the image to the breast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as should not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 13:16And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead; 13:17and that no man should be able to buy or to sell, save he that hath the mark, even the name of the beast or the number of his name. 13:18Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man: and his number is Six hundred and sixty and six.


14:1And I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on the mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty and four thousand, having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads. 14:2And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and the voice which I heard was as the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 14:3and they sing as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures and the elders: and no man could learn the song save the hundred and forty and four thousand, even they that had been purchased out of the earth. 14:4These are they that were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they that follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were purchased from among men, to be the firstfruits unto God and unto the Lamb. 14:5And in their mouth was found no lie: they are without blemish. 14:6And I saw another angel flying in mid heaven, having eternal good tidings to proclaim unto them that dwell on the earth, and unto every nation and tribe and tongue and people; 14:7and he saith with a great voice, Fear God, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made the heaven and the earth and sea and fountains of waters. 14:8And another, a second angel, followed, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, that hath made all the nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. 14:9And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a great voice, If any man worshippeth the beast and his image, and receiveth a mark on his forehead, or upon his hand, 14:10he also shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is prepared unmixed in the cup of his anger; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 14:11and the smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of his name. 14:12Here is the patience of the saints, they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. 14:13And I heard the voice from heaven saying, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth: yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; for their works follow with them. 14:14And I saw, and behold, a white cloud; and on the cloud I saw one sitting like unto a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand sharp sickle. 14:15And another angel came out from the temple, crying with a great voice to him that sat on the cloud, Send forth thy sickle, and reap: for the hour to reap is come; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. 14:16And he that sat on the cloud cast his sickle upon the earth; and the earth was reaped. 14:17Another angel came out from the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 14:18And another angel came out from the altar, he that hath power over fire; and he called with a great voice to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Send forth thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. 14:19And the angel cast his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth, and cast it into the winepress, the great winepress, of the wrath of God. 14:20And the winepress are trodden without the city, and there came out blood from the winepress, even unto the bridles of the horses, as far as a thousand and six hundred furlongs.


15:1And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having seven plagues, which are the last, for in them is finished the wrath of God. 15:2And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire; and them that come off victorious from the beast, and from his image, and from the number of his name, standing by the sea of glass, having harps of God. 15:3And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

Great and marvellous are thy works, O Lord God, the Almighty; righteous and true are thy ways, thou King of the ages. 15:4Who shall not fear, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy; for all the nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy righteous acts have been made manifest.

15:5And after these things I saw, and the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: 15:6and there came out from the temple the seven angels that had the seven plagues, arrayed with precious stone, pure and bright, and girt about their breasts with golden girdles. 15:7And one of the four living creatures gave unto the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. 15:8And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and none was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels should be finished.


16:1And I heard a great voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, Go ye, and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God into the earth. 16:2And the first went, and poured out his bowl into the earth; and it became a noisome and grievous sore upon the men that had the mark of the beast, and that worshipped his image. 16:3And the second poured out his bowl into the sea; and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living soul died, even the things that were in the sea. 16:4And the third poured out his bowl into the rivers and the fountains of the waters; and it became blood. 16:5And I heard the angel of the waters saying, Righteous art thou, who art and who wast, thou Holy One, because thou didst thus judge: 16:6for they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, and blood hast thou given them to drink: they are worthy. 16:7And I heard the altar saying, Yea, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. 16:8And the fourth poured out his bowl upon the sun; and it was given unto it to scorch men with fire. 16:9And men were scorched men with great heat: and they blasphemed the name of God who hath the power over these plagues; and they repented not to give him glory. 16:10And the fifth poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom was darkened; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, 16:11and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they repented not of their works. 16:12And the sixth poured out his bowl upon the great river, the river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way might by made ready for the kings that come from the sunrising. 16:13And I saw coming out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits, as it were frogs: 16:14for they are spirits of demons, working signs; which go forth unto the kings of the whole world, to gather them together unto the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. 16:15(Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walked naked, and they see his shame.) 16:16And they gathered them together into the place which is called in Hebrew Har-magedon. 16:17And the seventh poured out his bowl upon the air; and there came forth a great voice out of the temple, from the throne, saying, It is done: 16:18and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunders; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since there were men upon the earth, so great an earthquake, so mighty. 16:19And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. 16:20And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 16:21And great hail, every stone about the weight of a talent, cometh down out of heaven upon men: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof is exceeding great.


17:1And there came one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls, and spake with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the judgment of the great harlot that sitteth upon many waters; 17:2with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and they that dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her fornication. 17:3And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness: and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 17:4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations, even the unclean things of her fornication, 17:5and upon her forehead a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 17:6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder. 17:7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns. 17:8The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, they whose name hath not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast, how that he was, and is not, and shall come. 17:9Here is the mind that hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth: 17:10and they are seven kings; the five are fallen, the one is, the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a little while. 17:11And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goeth into perdition. 17:12And the ten horns that thou sawest are ten kings, who have received no kingdom as yet; but they receive authority as kings, with the beast, for one hour. 17:13These have one mind, and they give their power and authority unto the beast. 17:14These shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they also shall overcome that are with him, called and chosen and faithful. 17:15And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 17:16And the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her utterly with fire. 17:17For God did put in their hearts to do his mind, and to come to one mind, and to give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished. 17:18And the woman whom thou sawest is the great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.


18:1After these things I saw another angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was lightened with his glory. 18:2And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird. 18:3For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen; and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness. 18:4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come forth, my people, out of her, that ye have no fellowship with her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues: 18:5for her sins have reached even unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. 18:6Render unto her even as she rendered, and double unto her the double according to her works: in the cup which she mingled, mingle unto her double. 18:7How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning. 18:8Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judged her. 18:9And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and lived wantonly with her, shall weep and wail over her, when they look upon the smoke of her burning, 18:10standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. 18:11And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no man buyeth their merchandise any more; 18:12merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet; and all thyine wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble; 18:13and cinnamon, and spice, and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep; and merchandise of horses and chariots and slaves; and souls of men. 18:14And the fruits which thy soul lusted after are gone from thee, and all things that were dainty and sumptuous are perished from thee, and men shall find them no more at all. 18:15The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning; 18:16saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl! 18:17for in an hour so great riches is made desolate. Lamb Center's Long History in Fairfax City
How past events shape both sides in the current TLC discussion.

Mayor Robert Lederer mentioned a court ruling that could determine The Lamb Center's place in Fairfax City after setting new guidelines for charities last week. To understand his words, you need to get a glimpse of The Lamb Center's long, tumultuous history with city officials, business owners, residents and the homeless it serves.

As Lederer said, "I don't think there's been another issue in the City of Fairfax that I've spent more time on... How did we get to where we are?"

Read on for a quick timeline:


•Truro Church started The Lamb Center to feed, give religious support and find jobs for the less fortunate in 1992. It was first located above a pawn shop on Route 50, according to Fairfax County's Office to Prevent and End Homelessness.

•As TLC served more of the area's homeless, it moved to a 3,500-square-foot retail building at 3220 Old Lee Highway, its current location, at Fairfax Circle. The center's new location placed it next to a 7-Eleven, numerous businesses and residents.

•TLC became an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, separate from Truro, in 2006. The center continued its ministry and aid for the homeless by donations and volunteers from local churches and good Samaritans.

•Neighboring businesses and residents feel TLC's presence. The center's clients make public urination and intoxication, loitering, assault and other crimes common in the Fairfax Circle area. They argue that the center is harming their business and daily quality of life.

•Fairfax City attempted to buy a $2.6 million, 10,000-square-foot office building at 2923 Telstar Court in Merrifield (by Gallows Road and Route 29) in 2006. City officials hoped to purchase and resell the property to TLC as soon as the county approved a special zoning use for what would be TLC's new location. Merrifield residents balked at the suggestion, forming the Merrifield Citizens Association to voice their concerns. They worried that the same issues popping up around the Fairfax City location would plague their neighborhoods and businesses. This online petition, one of many efforts made to keep TLC out of Merrifield, gathered 970 NIMBY signatures.

•The city decided not to purchase the Merrifield property in January 2007 after hearing the county was unlikely to grant TLC the special use permit needed for them to move in.

•The county's Office to Prevent and End Homelessness paired up with a TLC task force in 2008 to try to find a new home for the center.

•Fairfax City's zoning administrator cited TLC with two violations in August 2008. The admin said TLC's activities went beyond the general office, business uses allowed in a C2 retail commercial district. What was once considered a counseling center had turned into a day care facility for the homeless. The zoning administrator saw no place for an organization providing food, showers and laundering for underprivileged in a C2 district.

•TLC appealed the violations. Center volunteers and board members agreed that TLC's food, shower and laundering service go beyond the norm in day-to-day business practices.

•Fairfax City's board of zoning appeals sided with the center in April 2009.

•The city's zoning administrator found fault with the board's decision, saying the members "brushed aside the legal arguments" because TLC had been doing such activities for a long time, according to court documents. The zoning administrator also claimed the board overturned the admin's decision based on the merit or logic of the ordinance cited in the violations. In other words, they judged the ordinance instead of the center's actions.

•The city appeals the board's ruling to the Fairfax County Circuit Court in fall of 2009.

•In November 2010, Fairfax City considers a new ordinance establishing rules for charitable organizations moving to or expanding within the city limits. In the first draft of the ordinance, such organizations would have to provide off-street parking for employees and clients and a minimum 300-square-feet of screened outdoor space (patios, courtyards). The ordinance also required such establishments to be located within 500 feet of a bus stop and not within 1,000 feet of a business that sells alcohol.

•Planning commission members wonder if the new ordinance would "pigeon hole" a certain type of charitable organization, make it difficult for groups like TLC to relocate to other areas within Fairfax City. Commission member Jennifer Robinson said she was concerned that the ordinance would bring about "unintended consequences" at a November meeting.

•TLC advocates asked the commission in November to involve them in crafting the ordinance. They later claim they had little to no chance to add input on the new regulations.

•The ordinance is changed to remove some of the stricter regulations (distance from alcohol, bus stop, parking rule, outdoor space requirement). Even with the changes, the planning commission votes not to recommend the new ordinance in January.

•Fairfax City's council votes 5-1 to approve the ordinance on January 11.

•The zoning appeals board and Fairfax City get their next day in circuit court on February 2.

So what does this mean?

Lederer referenced the current circuit court case that pits Fairfax City against its own board of zoning appeals at last week's council meeting. The mayor said the city is ill-equipped / handle the post-court reality, regardless of how the court rules.

"If that ruling is upheld in the courts, what that now means is that there's no provision anywhere in our zoning ordinances that would allow The Lamb Center or Lamb Center-type services anywhere in the City of Fairfax," he said. "If the argument that that's not a correct interpretation prevails in the court then there's a provision that says there is no community input, there is no public process, there is no council action and those facilities could go anywhere at any time in this community as well."

Lederer and other council members argued that the ordinance was not meant to be an affront to The Lamb Center or other charitable organizations. Instead, it was an attempt at creating a process to examine such uses and decide the ways in which they would best fit Fairfax City.

"For those of you who support the Lamb Center and those type of uses, I would think this kind of process would give you a comfort zone," he continued. "There is a legitimate, stable, I believe well-defined process in place to allow for social services."

But there's another thing to be learned from this timeline.

While city officials, business owners and residents admire and respect the work The Lamb Center volunteers do to better the world, there is still a strong desire to take The Lamb Center and move it to a place where no one will complain about public drunkenness, urination, loitering and fistfights. It's a great service, sure, but doesn't escape the usual NIMBY attitude that follows similar charities. No one wants it in their backyard.

From zoning officials to those who would block the center's relocation, this timeline shows that these volunteers had to put up with quite a bit of city and county interference since TLC's creation. It's no wonder, then, that The Lamb Center would see this new ordinance in a negative light... even if that was the last thing the council intended.

Against All Odds – A Recent God Sighting

Often when we first get to know a new guest at the Lamb Center, they feel their situation is hopeless and getting out of their situation nearly impossible. This is even more so for those guest who have dug deep holes for themselves (as an experienced hole digger, I can relate to this). Jed arrived at our doors about two years ago after being released from the Fairfax County Jail. Jed was originally from Maryland, but over the years the trouble he got into knew no boundaries. He had a strong desire to live a new life but he had no idea where to start. Jed was willing to listen to suggestions and spent hours talking to staff and at Bible Study. Before long, he followed a lead from Patti and was hired at a local restaurant. Shortly afterwards, he applied and was accepted at Northern Virginia Community College's HVAC program.

Going to college, working and sleeping in your car is not easy and there were many days where Jed shared his discouragement with us. We lifted him up in pray which lifted his spirits. Eventually, Jed landed a well paying HVAC position with a Godly employer and was ready to move into housing and return to school full time in September. Before he could make this move, however, he learned he had decade-old traffic tickets from Maryland and Washington, DC and if these were no paid in short order, his driver's license would be suspended. Jed could see his progress falling apart and he turned to the Lamb Center for guidance. With assistance from the Lamb Center and a caring brother, Jed will be able to pay these fines before his license is suspended. Jed will still be able to return to school in September, but his move into housing will have to wait until he repays his brother.

Each morning, Jed comes into the Lamb Center before we open to eat, shower and receive encouragement before going to work. At the end of a long day, Jed returns to his vehicle to sleep. When he goes to work throughout the area restoring air conditioning on a hot summer day, his customers would never guess that he is homeless and struggling against all odds to move out of homelessness. I have often shared with Jed that God is much greater than the odds we face.

The only problem is w/this 'Jed' story of events, Dave does not 'see' what Jed does and say's to others lined up and in need just as bad or worse than Dave's little pet -focused, overly involved with Jed routine outside of his 'oversight'. I know this Jed and he's not one of the the 'good guy's Dave is making him out to 'be' in his post and say's he is.
And in the meantime, other, just as much or more in need and waiting longer than Jed are 'shoved aside' and stagnated even longer with Dave and the others discriminatly favoring and over focusing one's like Jed shown and practiced thru their actions and words, way-over protecting him or her, no matter how rotten he conducts himself towards these mentioned other's.
Dave's norrow-minded 'favored-project' Jed and his 'select few-favored' other's with their rude, wantonly disrespectfull behavior towards these other's brings about what this thread is mainly about.
Jed is a perfect example. He is STILL substance abusing. He is a drunk. He is a panhandling pot-head and is known to smoke his crack-pipe regularly. That's how he, in practice, got jailed to start with. It's imbedded in him and his official track record that proves that is the kind of person he consistently is and still is.
He lies all the time, for example, when he conducts himself 'covertly' (sneaky) towards another LC attendee badly and gets a reaction out of them that can possibly be mis-enterpreted against the reactionary one, he criminally-minded denies he, what he does very well, provokes them into the reaction. And he does it wantonly because he knows he's going to be 'protected' no matter how wrong he is, by Dave and the rest in charge there, in which is flat out, by every meaning of the word applied, WRONG.
Dave takes his side, always believing ones like this 'Jed', and throws out Jed's victim(s) RELENTLESSLY. Casts them aside as if they are so much GARBAGE compared to one's like Jed, who, by example, are the TRUE pieces of garbage being compared to most ones showing up there, again, needing just as much and even more DESERVED help than these ones like this Jed - character!
And DAve's above post is simply added proof of what is the very subject of this thrad. Pay attention now, the criminal UNCHRISTIAN like saga at the LC CONtinues!
And how many ones, like I have experienced directly as one of Jed's victims, have fallen into even worse conditions to cause them to get into 'trouble', reflectively of the fowl treatment detailed, and even possibly worsening the victim's predicament of homelesness, while all this goes on and on like this?
Ending up substance abusing themselves in reflection of the detailed treatment when entering the LC daily?

And add this all up, look how Dave's very posted, exampled 'attitude' towards this Jed one as an example to the way his favored ones like Jed, all added up and multiplied by the 'total amount' of his favored ones exampled behavior is affecting the entire mission of the place and it's surrounding society, the very businesses and citizens and citizens children living in the area in conjunction with the bigger picture going on there and all around the place. The narrow-mindedness of 'it all' and the bigger, major impact it is having, dragging the place itself to the brink of closure/end, to ALL the ones in need, simply because one's like Dave 'running the place' refuse to change a simple policy or policies and help 'save' the more deserving ones instead of sneaky-minded ones like this Jed deceitfully, thru disrespectfull lies, getting them run out? Knowing that with the exampled 'overly-protectiveness' practiced, that causes one's like this Jed to conduct themselves that much more wantonly WORSE!
This WRONG, over protective attitude, displayed even in his post, is bringing the entire mission to an end for EVERYONE in just as much or more need as these criminal-types like Jed, with his record proving same and he himself refusing to change, who do and more HONESTLY deserve it! By what is very RIGHT and Christian -like. By what is the very proclamation of the very ones 'running' the place 'advertise' to get it's donations and support. CHANGE YOUR SELF-DESTRUCTIVE PRACTICES, DAVE and the rest - DO YOU NOT SEE? Do you ENJOY the fact that your refusal to do so is the very reason the LC is always on the brink of being shut down?

Ok the guy got a job hes not the only one in there that works what it is is that he's a very good ass kisser Ive been at the lamb center for 4 yrs now havent gotten any assistance what so ever I don't drink or anything else while this Jed guy is always tryin to score pot normally I keep my mouth shut because I know what going on here but they're praising this guy like he's doing something go look in his car you'll find empty beer bottle or cases of beer He's not doing anything different than the rest of them down there only he's good at kissing ass which is why I havent got any help but its ok im going to be alright. Its just sad cause they help the wrong people out while the one who are tryin to change get pushed to the side... While city officials, business owners and residents admire and respect the work The Lamb Center volunteers do to better the world, there is still a strong desire to take The Lamb Center and move it to a place where no one will complain about public drunkenness, urination, loitering and fistfights. It's a great service, sure, but doesn't escape the usual NIMBY attitude that follows similar charities. No one wants it in their backyard.

I and everyone else that gives half a hoot about themselves and the FX area residents should contact ICE (illlegal immigration enforcement agaency) and file complaints about this Lamb Center.
The illegals running, in and out of the place, that makes it too obvious that the trafficking of same illegals is being asssisted there is rediculous.
Too many of them are showing up, taking up residence on the public property wooded areas all around and beyond this Lamb Center.
Especially around the I-66 interchanges with Nutley and more focused, Rt.s 50.
It's INSANE!
They are crawling all over the place! It's an invasion of the Brownies from Central and South America!
With their substance abusing and getting drunk and harassment of good citizens is a gross violation of anyones civil rights including the legal ones!

The second being a City Council, for whatever reason, and their names besides David Meyer will be published here, so as to start emailing these folks let them know of our displeasure, and the fact that they will be voted out, unless the Lamb Center is gone, across the wall, like a grand slam homerun.

That's it, it is very simple. Wrong area, and an incompetent city council, who lacks the guts/will, to make this happen.

Ok, let me make sure I understand. The two problems with the Lamb Center are:

1. It is in the wrong location
2. Gutless City Council won't move the Lamb Center

Those are the main two. Although the "bozo" dude could be a close number #3, geeez.

Here is the link to the City of Fairfax Mayor, and City Council. They would love to hear some of the nonsense going on down at the circle, and have been forwarded these posts, and other information that is going to show, the issues that the Lamb Center has brought to the circle. If they are serious about the revitalization of Fairfax Boulevard, that they are all supposedly on board about, TLC and sites such as the Anchorage, Hi Way, and Boulevard Motels will be given the boot, one way or the other, whether it is through legal action or the zoning board.
