You might want to first check to see if the persons named here are still with FCPS.

Get someone who works there to check the e-mail address of these folks.

Send an e-mail.

If it comes back, you know what that means.

Check the area general district and circuit courts on line for case information.

"I didn't think it would be a big deal," Hal told The Washington Post. "I think hugging is a good thing." Hal's parents agreed. They thought the school's no-contact policy was too extreme and lobbied the school board to change it. Kilmer's principal, Deborah Hernandez, however, says the policy is the best way to protect students from unwanted physical contact.


In her crowded school, Hernandez said, she's seen a poke provoke a fight and knows that a handshake can be a gang sign. "You have to have an absolute rule with students," she told The Washington Post.

Kilmer isn't the only school that bans physical contact. Many schools have rules about touching. School officials say the rules help keep the peace and make sure students behave appropriately. Critics counter that those schools are going overboard.

FCPS just announced a new full-time principal for Kilmer yesterday. Monterio was the interim principal announced when DH and CS exited the stage at mid-year.

Now why would they name a middle school after Val Kilmer? He wasn't very good in Top Gun and only Top Secret.

Val Kilmer was screwed by the Academy in those two cinematic masterpieces. Don't be hatin.

Having good contacts in Fairfax County government is a good thing. Deborah Hernandez is a fine administrator and will be a great addition to Lake Braddock Secondary School. The Kilmer community, Joyce or Val, is a lesser school for her having left.

They move them around like the Cathlic Church used to move priests. Hernandez was at an elementary school in Vienna pre kilmer. I guess they are putting her at a school where none of the parenst will know her inadequacies - fresh start for the insiders in FCPS.

They could probably save a ton of money if they got rid of all the excess principals at the schools. LB has 7 principals, 2 assistant principals, and an associate principal. WTF? Do they really need that many? I doubt it. Years ago everyone had a ton of clerical staff, that was cut until only one or two people do what 7-8 did. Seems like it's time for the high paying jobs to double up the workload as well.

While this sounds sordid (assuming that what you claim did happen), how does it detract from one's ability to teach?

Wow, that's a twist. Hope "cowards" is telling the truth and not just spreading a rumor. If it's true, you can bet the Kilmer kids knew about it long ago. It may be sad, but the word will quickly spread to Lake Braddock and this principal would have no credibility before she even arrived.

Despite what we see on TV, in the news, and in the movies, it is not unreasonble for FCPS to insist on high moral behavior from their employees, especially those put in a position of authority over teens.

Adultery is still a crime, rarely prosecuted in Virginia. However, that's not the point. Sex among coworkers is frowned upon in any reputable organization, for good reason. They should be fired for cause. And if they can't be fired because their lawyers get involved, then reassigned to positions having no contact with children.

There are enough great principal candidates out there that the highest standards can be upheld. Best qualified could not possibly include a principal removed from another school, whatever the reason.

Besides, isn't the receiving school allowed to participate in the screening of several candidates for an open principal position?

Typically, I would have sympathy for her-given her husband is a creep and all, but she seems like a not very nice person-hardly deserving of sympathy. I read some of the "rate your teacher" comments, and it seems the kids at this school were not to fond of her-some even asked her if she even liked kids....kinda sad when that is the vibes you are throwing off to 12-14 year olds. Add in the no touching policy and this principal seems like a bigtime LOSER.

It sucks for Lake Braddock.

As far as the PTA/parents having a say in new principals, they usualy have a process, but I hear the new Kilmer pribcipal was at the bottom of the list.

Basically, parents, we pay all the bills, but have no power over this school district.

Hey AVR - It's perfectly normal for a principal or AP to take a leave of absence, and return to their school the next year. Happened at several FCPS schools that I know. This is different. There's something you are not telling us...

So because you "pay the bills" you should run things? Perhaps you should get a degree and training as an educator and then provide your input.

These nosy parents have NO RIGHT to complain about our schools. These teachers and principals are doing a FABULOUS job educating our kids. Fairfax County is a superior school district that has test scores WELL ABOVE VA averages and ALL kids excel-regardless of race or ethnicity.

Let's look at Mark Twain Middle School, for example. The principal, Aimee Holleb makes about $120k per year, like most FCPS principals. Let's examine the results of her degree and training in education, you KNOW NOTHING parents.

2007-08 SOL scores:

7th grade Math: 74% (yes sir, SEVENTY FOUR!!!) of Blacks at this school FAILED this test. 81% (holy cow!!) of Hispanics FAILED this test. The VA averages are 50% failures-so so much for FCPS being so superior, huh?

8th grade Math: 38% of Blacks fail and 49% of Hispanics fail-VA averages are 26%.

So you parents out there who constantly complain need to be quiet and let these "professionals" continue the good work that they are doing.

Turns out she didn't leave because of her family at all. I heard she fought very hard to keep her job as principal, despite her ineptitude. She was forced to resign her position. She should have been fired for her illegal activities, but of course FCPS covered it up. Just like the bureaucracy that it is, FCPS takes care of their higher-paid employees.

What's worse, is that Madison lost two of its best teachers because their PERSONAL LIVES were scrutinized. Deborah Hernandez caused all of them to be transferred because of the investigation into her illegal activities and HER complaints.

Doesn't add up at all. If the Kilmer principal performed all these heinous acts you claim, how exactly did she then get reassigned to Lake Braddock so promptly?

I had kids in both Madison and Kilmer at the time. I can attest to the fact that her husband and a woman who taught in his department at Madison both abruptly disappeared last year. I can also tell you that the students at both schools heard the story that the husband was having a fling with the woman, and that the Kilmer principal got in trouble for trying to get into her husband's FCPS email account to snoop on his activities. Considering that a drug violation will just get a student transferred to another school (even if FCPS calls it expulsion to make it sound more severe), it seems perfectly consistent that computer hacking will likewise just get a principal transferred to another school.

OK - hardly the infraction of the century as the prior poster suggested. Massachusetts cops hacked Tom Brady's driving records about 1000 times and they didn't even have reason to think he was messing with their wives. Focusing the blame on Kilmer's principal for the messy situation seems very misguided.

I am a Madison and Kilmer parent as well. I am very familiar with the details from the top.

Deborah Hernandez did more than just hack into her husband's email account. She forced Kilmer's computer specialist to hack in the FCPS server at Madison. Which got him suspended without pay. She did this in order to not only hack into her husband's email, but also the email of the other woman. In the process, she had Kilmer's computer specialist hack into the woman's computer so that she could steal the woman's personal files.

FCPS would have fired her if her lawyer had not worked the deal for her to "resign voluntarily" and receive a smooth transition to another school.

This SUCKS! She signed a much stricter form about computer use than any student, but if a student had done the same thing! Suspension? expulsion?

She certainly shouldn't get transferred to a cushy job at gatehouse and then placed without question in another position of authority! She can't follow the rules (both FCPS and legal) herself, but she gets to be the moral police for our kids?

Another example of FCPS covering up for their $120K a year employees. I can't believe LBSS would hire her! Do they even know? We have a right as parents not to have someone like her around our kids. What a hypocrite! Our students can't hug or high-five? But she can do whatever she wants and have no punishment at all?!?!?!?!

My teenage son is on the school swim team and swims at the YMCA in Reston. He saw her yelling and screaming obscenities in the parking lot. Seems like she is unhinged at this point and not ready to return to work. He said she was acting this way in front of young children as well. She is an embarrassment to FCPS. I can understand why the school system tried to cover up her mess, but it certainly is not fair that our children have to pay the price, continuing to have her in their lives as a self-righteous authority figure who doesn't follow the rules

Her husband may have cheated on her, but that was in his personal life and did not impact his teaching. His behavior at home doesn’t mean we should condone her illegal behavior as an FCPS employee. Let the blame rest where it belongs. She did the crime, she should do the time.

My daughter had Mr Hernandez as her calculus teacher and my youngest daughter and son had Ms Schmidt as their calculus teacher. If they had an affair, then I believe that to be morally wrong, but I firmly believe this has nothing to do with their teaching. My kids adored them both, learned a tremendous amount, become more confident students and passed their AP exams. Obviously this was Madison's loss.

If you want to see what it takes to fire a school employee just google "How Do I Fire An Inept Teacher". Follow the procedures and only then will you understand why they shuffle shuffle people around rather than can them. Fairfax County Public Schools will do damage control on this.

If the WAPO covers this story, it will say "...Ms. Hernandez, former principal at Kilmer Middle School, near Reston"--in order to avoid using the name "Vienna" in the article.

They used this strategy when they were covering that Vienna woman who killed her husband and wrote stuff about sex on their driveway.

And the article will appear late Friday night/early Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend, when they think the fewest number of people will be paying attention.

Her alleged "excellence" as a principal was as a result of riding on the coattails of the boom of kids and the GT center at the school. It was and still is an excellent school, but really through no doing of hers. The GT faculty is great. She was mostly unapproachable. Glad she is out at Kilmer.

Surely you didn't think that anyone in FCPS could be fired! At worst, bad teachers and principals go into the central administration, make more money and get an easier job.

The good news is that the new principal at Kilmer seems like a great guy.

Realize also that sometimes the person in FCPS has no control over what the county does with you. I have another friend with family issues whose son needs her desperately now - she asked for a leave - they told her "no" and that she must resign - she had enough time to get the leave - they just told her "no".

Sometimes it has nothing to do with what the person wants - it's what the county tells you you must do. That's what the public doesn't see or understand - we are forced to do what we are told - no matter what level we are in.

BTW toots, most of us do volunteer, and work full-time jobs, and raise our kids. Oh, I forgot, we also spend 2-3 hours per night with our kids helping our kids with their homework, because SOMEHOW, in the 8 hour school day, they were not taught by their teacher. probably because the teacher was too occupied with filling out paperwork because Susie took an advil in school or Johnny logged into MySpace on the school computer. The back half of the day is spent figuring how to game the system and get the strugging students to pass their SOLs. Rather than just spend the time teaching the kids the basics, the teachers are spending countless hours with alternative assessments for 8000 plus students so they can show The Dept of Education what a great job they are doing!

It is amazing that us parents have the time and energy to rant and rave about all the incompetent people working in our schools earning 6 figure salaries and woking 185 days a year.

Look around-toots-the best schools with the best educated kids are the ones who have parents who have the time and energy to hire the tutors or do the home instruction. The kids in the higher poverty schools, whose parents are unfortunate and work 60 hours week, and who can't fill the education void-they don't do as well.

Most achievements in this school district are a direct result of the overbearing parents that you seem to resent. If educators did their job, then the parents wouldn't have anything to complain about, now would they?

"A Vienna Resident" is exactly right. Hernandez was a principal who gave Kilmer 200% of her life and efforts. She is pulling back to take care of her young kids and have an easier schedule. As an AP, she will not be under the same pressure that she was under as principal.

Deborah isn't caring for her kids. She's outsourcing that as usual. Having her new boyfriend spend the night with them.

As an AP, she now as NIGHT DUTIES. She can't / doesn't watch her daughters. Her schedule is worse now than ever.

She DID NOT VOLUNTEER to leave Kilmer. She was being PUNISHED for her illegal deeds, bullying, and harassment of another FCPS employee as well as her husband.

Get for FACTS straight before singing praises for a lunatic that shouldn't be around our children.

I had to sit at a meeting in LBSS... in ear-shot of two of Deborah Hernandez's "friends" discussing this mess.

Deborah Hernandez was forced to resign... FCPS shuffled her to LBSS because McLean wouldn't take her. Now she's uprooted her kids lives, selling their home out from under them, NEVER able to take them to school NEVER able to pick them up from school, has Assistant Principal duties in the evenings that didn't exist for her as the Kilmer Middle School Principal...

She's the most hypocritical, self-righteous bitch any of us have ever met. She keeps spewing a line of crap about how her husband is "immoral"... talking about how righteous she is in comparison to him... all the while, she's already shacked up with a former "friend of the family"... Their divorce isn't even final & she's exposing their daughters to an overnight male lover in the home... expecting them to accept him tucking being the one to put them to bed because SHE IS NEVER HOME!

She brags about how she's keeping their daughters away from their Dad and limiting their contact with his life. Wanting them to hate him for the fact that he just didn't want her anymore.

Personally, I can't stand to be around her. Can't stand to hear her whining & seeking attention & pity when HER ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES caused this whole mess.

The only thing her husband did wrong - was staying with her at all. He should have left her... run for the hills kicking and screaming... before putting up with someone like her.

I guess he stayed for the love of his daughters. We all know he was/is the only one taking care of them now... spends much more time with them than she does. Of course, that was always the case.

Deborah Hernanadez is one of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever met. She LOVES her children dearly. In addition to that, she gave everything she had to help struggling students. Do you really think she was punished..? Come on! Her transfer had to do with a personal matter, that should never have come to the surface.

The reason why FCPS recycles principals who perform poorly and brings people out of retirement is because they are in a hiring freeze. What this means for FCPS employees is, they can't loose their jobs unless they committ a crime. The great dumbing down of our kids education.

I & everyone else at Gatehouse would LOVE to submit those files.. but they were sealed & everyone working here is bound by that agreement... we risk losing our jobs.

The only person who can release her copies of the files & evidence is Miss Gordon... believe me, we've TRIED & TRIED & TRIED to get her to press charges against the Ex-Ms. Hernandez. That's the only way the state & federal law enforcement will know & get involved.

The young lady won't do it. She said, "at the request of Mr. Hernandez, for the sake of his children..." she will not have his ex-wife arrested for what the ex has done to her - including the hacking into her comptuer, hacking into her email, stalking her at work, stalking her at home, etc.

Obviously Miss Gordon is a bigger/better person than "the ex" every was... and quite obviously Miss Gordon cares more about protecting the children from this than Deborah Hernandez did - otherwise WHY would Deborah Hernandez have risked the public spectacle she made of herself, along with risking her own job, and accepting/wanting to risk her husband's job?

I suggest Deborah Hernandez stay on Miss Gordon's good side - the statute of limitations doesn't expire for a few more years!

Than again, maybe Deborah will overstep the boundaries again with Miss Gordon - if she pushes her hard enough, maybe we'll get rid of Deborah Hernandez yet... this time for good, not just a transfer.

You are mistaken. You and Deborah Hernandez are both government employees. You are protected under Virginia and Federal whistleblower protection laws. You may provide the confidential documents to law enforcement without fear of retribution. Anonymously if you prefer. The government wants you to do that rather than sending documents to the investigative press. And if you don't have access to the documents any more, simply report who does or where you believe they were filed.

When you make a report, be sure to give law enforcement a means to contact you. Posting something obscure for sale on Craig's List and pointing investigators toward your anonymous e-mail there works well. After the ad expires the e-mail address is deleted and can not be traced (there are exceptions, but the for sale area is safe for this).

And even if they found out who you were and retaliated, you could become very wealthy :). Believe me, you are for more protected in exposing misbehavior than Deborah Hernandez and the administration are for not punishing it.

My daughter and I had a run-in with Ms. Hernandez at LBSS. This woman is a nightmare. Please get rid of her! She's self-righteous and condescending. She does not have our students' best interests at heart.

I am shocked and amazed every time I hear more information about this woman. I had to ask my administrator. Now, the more she does and says, the more we all understand why he left her. Once I talked with my administrator about the rumors - SHOCKED is the only word for it.

With what she did, trying to get her ex-husband fired at the same time trying to get his girlfriend fired - just another example of how Deborah Hernandez wants to control and manipulate him. Good thing it backfired! The more she did to hold him under her thumb, the more he realized he had to run for his life.

Poor guy. I feel sorry for everything he and his daughters have been through because of his ex wife.

Ms. Hernandez has to serve hall duty, greeting parents and students, just like the rest of us. Every administrator is required to serve hall duty, cafeteria duty, bus duty, after school activties/duty, etc.

We do believe she's making the most of her situation. She's suffering through pay freezes like the rest of us now. It's obvious she'd much rather be back at her old job. Now she has to ask permission before she acts/leaves/goes on vacation just like the rest of the school assistant principals. She no longer has free reign; she lost that privelege when she lost her previous Principal job.

She got what she deserved on the marriage front. Too bad her removal from principal at Kilmer wasn't her permanent removal from FCPS. That should have been her punishment for hacking, bullying, stalking and terrorizing her ex, his new girlfriend, and the math department at JMHS

The two math teachers were yanked out in the middle of the year. This was really disruptive for kids taking AP Calculus. Getting college credit depended on their AP scores. Why did Mark M. dump the two teachers (or at least acquiesce)? Don't baseball players take math too?

The teachers were transferred because they were dating. Mr. Hernandez & Ms. Gordon were (and still are) dating.

The ex-Mrs. Hernandez was pissed because she thought their separation would be temporary. Kicked him out repeatedly, tried to demand that he live in the basement while they were separated so she could control his life/he would still do all the housework, cooking, cleaning/he would still do all caring for their daughters/the Ex could do whatever she wanted. She even thought he should live in a friend/relative's basement while their divorce was being processed... tried to demand it, as if she had any right to control his life once they separated. Her notion seems to be - the bitchier & meaner she is, the more control she'll have over him & their daughters. She thought that Mr. Hernandez would come crawling back to her if she continually threatened not to let him see his daughters.

Yes, we know that 2 history teachers at JMHS were also dating & got married (their rooms were also side-by-side). We know that there are actually other teachers at JMHS who are currently dating. The thing is, Deborah Hernandez made a SCANDAL when she forced her TSPEC to hack into Ms. Gordon's computer. The TSPEC actually turned it in. Deborah Hernandez then made accusations against Ms. Gordon & Mr. Hernandez in order to cover her own tracks & cut a deal with FCPS so that she wouldn't get fired.

Investigations done. She got herself removed from Kilmer.

The SCANDAL is why Mark Merrell wanted the math teachers gone. They were "making Madison look bad in the community". He could have interceded, and he was part of the decision making group to force both math teachers to be at separate schools because they wouldn't stop seeing each other. The demand was that they weren't even allowed to speak, much less date. He called it "insubordination", and didn't want them on his staff. He can't handle it if someone challenges his status as Grand Pooba of Vienna.

In the end, FCPS lost the best calculus teacher it ever had when Mr. Hernandez took a job in a private school, and JMHS lost the best the brightest, sweetest math teacher when Ms. Gordon left. We miss them both so much.

Mark Merrell got what he deserved, a weakened math department & 2 inferior math teachers as their replacement.

The STUDENTS & math department at JMHS got the shaft. It's a shame. But doing what was best for the students was never Mark Merrell's consideration. He couldn't allow his authority to be challenged.

I guess, what I don't understand most, is WHY Ms. Gordon is still friends with Mr. Hernandez? After everything his ex-wife did by hacking into her computer, trying to get her fired, trying to get him fired. Why does she even speak to this man?

He lied continuously to cover his tracks with his ex-wife, which only served to further hurt Ms. Gordon. If he had been honest with FCPS, then none of this investigation would have ever gone through. FCPS would have dropped the matter instantly! Because the whole debacle was Deborah Hernandez using FCPS for her personal vendetta against Ms. Gordon. The hacking,the harassment, following Ms. Gordon home, driving by Ms. Gordon's house, driving through the JMHS parking lot, having her secretary to the same ON FCPS TIME & DIME!!!

They would have fired the ex-wife or at least demoted her & transferred her sooner... instead, Mr. Hernandez allowed this whole thing to become a public & costly nuisance for the tax payers. He allowed himself to be tortured, allowed Ms. Gordon to be tortured through all this.

Ms. Gordon is a strong, caring, radiant woman. Yet she remains friends with this man? Why?

Deborah Hernandez is so hung-up on her own opinion of what happened. SHe will always be in denial.

The evidence is all there at FCPS. When the story broke, Ms. Gordon had to tell on him. She had no choice but to give them the evidence to set the record straight.

Besides, we saw Mr. Hernandez constantly hitting on Ms. Gordon. When she moved to our foreign language hallway to get away from him, he prowled outside her room while she was teaching. Lurking & leering. He called her from pay phones, public phones inside public places (gyms, grocery stores), he texted her from several different phones he bought to hide his deeds from his wife. Dropping notes off at her house. She couldn't get away from him. FCPS had her phone records to prove it!

Deborah Hernandez blamed Ms. Gordon because her lying, cheating husband blamed Ms. Gordon. He told FCPS & his ex-wife that Ms. Gordon was pursuing him. HA HA! What a laugh. Deborah Hernandez is a clueless, vindictive bitch who never should have used FCPS for her personal vendetta & Cesar Hernandez is pathetic for not stepping up to accept his blame. If he cared about Ms. Gordon, he would have been honest with everyone.

Ms. Gordon definitely is better off without either of these losers in her life.

Well I never really thought about Ms H leaving for hacking and stuff, but it makes reasonable sense, Mr Tyson on the otherhand, is an excellent teacher. He talks to the students way more then Ms H. And he likes to joke with the students rather then just ignore you and walk away...

Eight Madison seniors are going to Ivy League universities next year. I hope the teachers keep on doing whatever they are doing.

I had Mr. Hernandez as a teacher. People did witness him cheating on another teacher as far back as the end of 2008. Granted cheating is immoral, but Madison should have realized that Mr. Hernandez was their best teacher BY FAR. Most people who took his class thought the AP BC Calculus exam was a joke. Not getting a 5 placed one in a very small minority.

Anyway back to the rumours. The computer scenario seems highly plausible. In the middle of class (right b4 Mrs Hernandez was fired) both Mr. Hernandez and the other woman's computers were confiscated. And, I do remember Mr. Hernandez having difficulty logging on to his computer. Memory tells me that he was entering in an old password.

So if you google Cesar Hernandez and teacher you find that Mr. Hernandez has a track record. If you believe what you read there is his side, her side and the truth. It is speculation as to whether is affair with Westfield HS math teacher ms. Gordon contributed to the demise of his marriage. But he allegedly cheated on his girlfriend with another woman and said woman let the cuckoo out of the clock.

Kind of begs a bigger question. As a teacher he has a responsibility to set a good example. So mr. Hernandez is teaching math at an all girls school. He has two daughters. Yet treats women with no respect. Kind of sad. He is probably a great teacher but what kind of example is he setting at the Madeira school?
