Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
as a volunteer firefighter there is nothing more pathetic than seeing losers with a boot on a corner extorting money from citizens in their cars. DOUCHEbags!
It's amazing to see all these fire department tshirts being worn today. Most of these people were not in the fire department 14 years ago, but they get lots of free food today for having that tshirt on.

I just want you all to know that I was behind a Subaru today. Usually, Subaru drivers are the most inconsiderate SOBs ever, but today, this guy (I said guy, because he was a male, and female Subaru drivers are just plain awful) was courteous, and moved well with traffic, and signaled politely.

Don't forget to visit your local fire stations to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. Be sure to say hi to your favorite EMTs as well, I am sure they will appreciate it, unless of course they put a unit in service and darn the luck, they can't be at the station.

Take it easy, you still have a couple weeks. Put it back in your pants.

Who protects the county during this open house? What if a fire happens nearby? This seems wasteful.
For one Saturday a year each firehouse pays its station commander (a Captain II) 9 hours of overtime to man the firehouse. So if s fire happens and all the trucks leave, there's at least one firefighter left behind to interact with the public.
This is done during October during fire prevention week. It's a chance for the public of any ages to visit their local fire station and ask questions and see the equipment up close.
If you don't like it, you don't need to come.
If you really don't like it and you don't want it to happen, you can contact your local board of supervisor. But I doubt your little bit of whining would change anything since most everyone else on the planet either enjoys it or doesn't care if it happens.

Your an idiot. I hope your house catches fire and everyone is at the open house having a good time.

Your argument carries more weight when you use proper grammar.

Why not make it like other states where if you want to volunteer or be paid you pay your way through the training? How much money is wasted on people who never go to one fire yet received the training?

Careful what you ask for, smart guy. There are lots of medic units out there carrying around sets of gear still in the plastic wrap. You want to drop their fire certs and a portion of their paycheck? That will be popular.
Many volunteers pay for their EMT out of pocket (right Kayla?) and never really integrate into the system as well as those who take the training through the academy.
What will volunteers do when the system goes all paramedic on all units?
Careful about what? Spending money on shit we don't need?
When was the last time that plastic bagged gear was ever used? Is it cost justified then? Fuck it. Trim the fat!

Volunteers will soon be relegated to nonresponse roles and canteen duty, there is no way they can keep up with the training and riding requirements. They also won't all go paramedic.

Wash a car in the parking lot? Come'on now, thats borders on barbaric...last day of the tour, all hands on deck and the troops run their nice 4WD Trucks, SUV's, Sports Cars, minivans (and the occasional Toyota Prius for those with uber long commutes) through the bays in a manner that rivals the best Embassy Autowash has to offer; wash, rinse, dry and interior with multiple available scents:
"Structure Fire" (smells just like the real firemen from FDNY)
"Freshly Fucked Volunteer"
"The Truck Slept All Night, Suck it Bitches"
"Part Time Job"
"Callback at Time and a Half"
and the inevitable
"Bunkroom in the Morning After All You Can Eat Chili Night"
In Honor of the Shifts:
"A-Shift...them arrogant assholes" (smells like arrogance and ass)
"B-Shift...them smelly fuckers" (smells like old spice and aqua velva)
"C-Shift...the eptiomy of mediocracy" (smells like...well... nothing)
It's funny how we don't mind posting names and pictures of others when they are having their WORST day ever, but we can't or won't post our names and pictures to give credibility to our posts!
