Wow, mediocre at best medical skills and the inability to remain calm under pressure, perfect paramedic candidate. I guess the "bedside" manner she showed to her advocates was really something.

Now who from 22 would recommend her for the program...the Chief of course, he has a thing for red heads, but who else....what other 22 Medic, a Lieutenant perhaps...maybe on A shift would be coaxed into a recommendation. I don't think I have any idea.

Yeah, you guys did a great job at that fire in Lorton a few years ago. You know, the one where FFX Cty got sued b/c the skilled "professionals" supposedly couldn't find the victim even though they claimed to search the room where she was calling from. nice job retards.

Oh, and nice policy on interior attacks and roof cuts. What a bunch of pussies. in FFX Cty if your house catches on fire, don't count on it being saved b/c here every attack is becoming a defensive attack.

And nice save over in Lorton a few weeks ago. Garden apartment turned into a 4 alarm? you bunch of slow ass pussies let that shit go up. Great tactics. Losers. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is the biggest joke in NOVA.

This message thread made me both laugh and cringe. It also made me feel disappointed.

As a FXCO volunteer, I will be the first to say that I agree: most volunteers just don't get/ have enough experience in the field to be as comfortable as a career firefighter. Any volunteer that denies this fact is lying to themselves.

BUT, with that said, there are *some* excellent Volunteer Firefighters and EMTs in Fairfax County--both male and female; these are people I would trust my life with. It is a shame that the bad behavior of a handful of volunteers seems to mar the image of all FXCO volunteers as a whole.

Are there "badge bunny" volunteers? Yup. And trust me, we know who they are. Are there "volunteer bunny" career guys? Yup. We know who they are too! Call me conservative, but any kind of sexual act performed inside a fire house seems a little weird.....and like a great way to get demoted/ fired/ asked to leave. Can you just not wait until you're off work?

Somebody in this thread mentioned how it is a waste of time and money to send all these volunteers through EMT and fire school when afterwards they don't even stick around for long. Again, I fully agree! Volunteers seem to wash in and out of the fire department pretty quickly and it is unbearably frustrating. I don't think people should join unless they are willing to stick around for at least 5 years. But there is only so much weeding out one can do. Again, don't let that fluctuation in our numbers give you the negative impression that ALL volunteers are like that. We're not. Every now and then we find a diamond in the rough among our recruits.

In conclusion, RELAX! Being angry about the vol/ career thing isn't worth it.....and neither is banging some chick on a pool table that you're just really not that into anyways! And wrap it up man! STDs don't sound like fun to me!

The career folks do it too. Just ask about how many of them go through the academy and leave soon after graduating. It costs more for a career to go through FF then a volunteer to go through EMT.

Bunnies tend to leave after a few years. They either just can't do the jib, or they hook up with someone , marry and leave. Others become more and more ostracized and looked down upon and leave when nobody will sleep with them or hang out. Some will hop stations and beds in those stations but eventually you run out of beds and stations.

The one Dunn Loring chick is a blonde, her career boyfriend openly cheats on her. The other Dunn Loring chick who left is a red head, she went to Vienna. The EMT/paramedic student slutty chick says she is a red head, but is a brunette. Everyone straight?

The Fairfax County BOS has been reading this thread and other posts about the FCFRD Volunteer System and we think it is time to make some hard decisions about the future of the volunteers in the Fire Rescue department. If news about this type of behavior got out to the taxpayers via the media, the BOS would face a lot of questions regarding why millions of taxpayer dollars are used each year to fund the volunteers when these type of activities are taking place at various Fire Stations throughout the county.

Taxpayer dollars are paying the salaries of the CAREER firefighters. The volunteers raise their own funds. Isn't that where my money goes to on bingo night?

Well, aside from the money the County donates to the volunteer stations and to pay for training and equipment used by volunteers, sure.

There is several million dollars in the county budget every year that goes towards training volunteers and maintenance of volunteer vehicles among other things. Volunteer Bingo funds, when not going into officer's pockets, usually go to pay the mortgage on the volunteer stations or towards the purchase ambulances. However, the volunteers usually experience extreme cost savings because the vehicles are purchased under the county contract using the county's specs.

Volunteers are not only less proficient in their skills, they take food out of the mouths of career firefighters families by taking away overtime. Don't blame a career firefighter when a volunteer kills one of your family members.

That's funny. Taking food from the mouths of career firefighter's families.

There are many career people who don't have good skills and got on the job due to family connections, or some other special dispensation. No all volunteers are great, but the same can be said for career staff as well.

Well, did they mean fuck as a verb or a noun? Do the unions or are the unions are a fuck? This is confusing.

Volunteers are best used in standby situations like the fair or at Wolf Trap. They don't have to respond lights and sirens, they may not do anything, but they are there to provide assistance if needed. They will also get a career crew there quick to do the work and transport. Having them run around responding is a recipe for disaster. They are going to have a LODD before a career member if they are not careful.

There are career firefighters who haven't turned a wheel in weeks, yet they supposedly have better skills than a volunteer? How is that, because they watched more tv, washed more cars, made more trips to the supermarket? Many paramedics will start a line on a orient not because they need it, but because the paramedic never gets to do it. The volunteers will probably have a LODD first because some career firefighter does something stupid and costs the volunteer their life.

Must be busy washing your pickup or your boat today, be careful not to hurt yourself and have to go on light duty, which you'll blame on some sort of injury you got while "on the job".

Interesting grouping here; a blonde, redhead and a brunette. One HATES the other two...passionately. One is highly respected by their peers, two are not. Two are supposedly friends, but not really.because one has fooled around with the others boyfriend. One is cuckolded and apparently is ok with it.

Kayla is in the paramedic school, so all she has to do is find an instructor to hook up with to pass.

Tick is still acceptable since volunteers are sucking the blood out of the career staff's paycheck. How can someone work overtime when an inexperienced volunteer is taking that money off the table? Ticks.

When a volunteer works a shift in place of a career member, the career member does not get any of the overtime they would have been making.

Volunteers in FFX Co NEVER fill a seat on a career unit in the place of a career member. The IAFF would never allow that to happen. Volunteers often ride 5th on an engine or 3rd on a medic but never fill a seat that a career ff would normally occupy.

They do put units in service for stand by events, don't they? Could be a paid crew getting overtime, but no, some no talent fuck of a volunteer is doing it.

How about the next time one of you union-protected career tubbos with looming Type-2 Diabetes comes lumbering up to the canteen truck angrily demanding a Gatorade, since you're a little thirsty after milking that "LOD-injury" as long as possible and finally having to put on your turnout gear, and the canteen volunteer throws a bottle right in your face...

You'd be crying on the cell phone to your union rep before the Gatoraid dried off

"Dropping a LODD"
"LOD-Injury."

While they don't explicitly state "line of duty death is funny," it does mock and destatus that type of event.

Professional, volunteer, career, paid, whatever.... LODD aren't funny.
