Bringing you the salad, and then the main course almost at the same time is very common with the low priced restaurants such as Ruby Tuesday, Fridays, Applebees.....
These places flip diners to keep the tables making money.
Even if you make a specific request that the salad and the main part of the meal are to be spaced apart, chances are you will both at the same time.
Order the salad only, and after it arrives order the main course to prevent from being flipped.
