Re: 2011 Northern Region HS Football

Ok, ok, here is the REAL scoop on local high school football. I am an impartial observer who watches as many games as I can around the tri-state area. The way things really are...
Ashburn is the King of Local Football. Stone Bridge, Broad Run, and Briar Woods all have under 2,000 students, and can compete with ANY team in the area, no matter what their size. Heck, you could combine Broad Run and Stone Bridge and have about the same amount of kids as in the larger Div 6 schools in Fairfax. A combined Broad Run/ Stone Bridge team defeats Westfields or Centreville by two scores or more. That is just the way it is.
The Rt 28 Corridor rules the roost. SB, BR, Briar, Westfields, C-Ville and Chantilly all located within 20 minutes of one another - no school more than three miles from Rt 28. Economic development has been a boon to the football programs in these areas.
The Concorde District is still king, but don't sleep on Cedar Run District. Battlefield and Osbourn have very strong programs, and both are HUGE schools in terms of population. Look and see how they did last year.
Yorktown is counterfeit. Sorry, just the way it is. They lose to SB by at least 14, maybe much more.
Northern Virginia is stronger than Maryland, and MUCH stronger than DC. Sorry, Washington Post, but there is more depth and more talent in Northern Virginia, and has been for years. Dematha wouldn't finish higher than third ( maybe as low as fifth!) in the Concorde. Traditional Maryland powers don't stack up that well either, and Maryland names more state champions than just about any state except New Jersey. ( By the way, NJ and PA both are much stronger than Maryland.) And sorry, Chocolate City, but DC football is simply atrocious. For years, Ballou has come to Nova to play, and is usually sent packing. Then, they go and run through the public school league.
Centreville will win their region, and so will Stone Bridge.
Look for Battlefield to take Div 6 in NW - same with Broad Run in Div 5.
Briar Woods will win AA Div 4 states.
All in all, sports fans, we should feel very lucky to have so much talent and perhaps just as importantly, such great coaching in this area.
