I live in the city of st. louis. For some reason even pit bulls that are nice to people it seems like they are always aggressive towards small dogs they don't know. We have had several violent attacks in our neighborhood from Pitt bulls getting off their leash and attacking peoples little dogs while they walked them. These dogs are extremely dangerous when it comes to owners with small dogs. It should be illegal to walk a pit bull in a public area and I believe if you own one you're an idiot. I have my conceal to carry and if one ever runs up on my dog while i'm walking it i will kill it on the spot

How many people really know what a pitbull looks like? If its a big dog with a big head people call it a pit... Most of those attacks probally are not pits at all. I own a pit. I have a toddler. I've seen the baby step on the pit's testicles, and although you could see the pain on the dogs face, and at times, he even yelps, the pit gently pushes him to the side. When my kid plays with the pit, the dog gently nudges him with his head, because he knows his teeth could hurt the baby. He's the most gentle dog in the world. In fact, I've only known one owner with a mean pit, and that's because he raised it to be that way. There is no dog gentler or nicer than my pit. He is not a child killer. You are wrong TonyBuck. The breeds you mentioned just like putts need training and to be raised properly. I had 2 Rottweilers and they were gentle giants. Very strong and powerful but incredibly loyal and smart as whips. Extremely protective of family. The key is to socialize, socialize, socialize. Unfortunately my Gracie recently had to be put down from cancer last year. I now have a mid size breed but greatly miss my Rotten and how intensely in tuned they were with me. Amazing breed.

I have 2 pit bulls and 2 children. I also own and operate a pet store that caters primarily to pit bulls, I'm also a full time paramedic and an emergency room technician. My dogs are kind, they are nannies and members of my family. The difference between my dogs and the dogs you see on the news? IM WHITE.

My sister has a pit bull. She is the sweetest dog, but my sister doesn't walk or feed her regularly and she has started biting. First it was her Mother-in-law's chihuahua, next it was the sweet neighbor boy across the street when he reached out his hand for the dog to sniff, and the most recent time was when the dog bit my sister in the face. And yet, the pit bull still doesn't get walked or fed regularly. I'm scared, it's just a matter of time before the dog really hurts someone, but I don't feel like it's the dog's fault. She's taking the dog to training classes, but I'm not at all convinced she's getting fed/walked regularly. Pit bulls are active dogs!

If someone's dog hurts someone when there were warning signs that weren't effectively addressed, I don't think that the owner should EVER be allowed to own another dog.

No, banning the breed is the smart and effective way to solve the problem.

I am convinced that pit bulls are not inherently violent. This was drilled into my head from observing my co-worker and her family and their dogs. All are well-trained and disciplined, and have never caused harm to anyone, as far as I know. Mind you, the owners are diligent in training and watching the dogs, and don't let them get away with anything they shouldn't.

My only remaining problem with the breed is the tremendous jaw strength they put behind bites; I heard that a pit bull can put more force into a bite than any other breed. Therefore, if one does happen to spaz out on you, it will do more tissue damage than, say, a golden lab.

In college I've met a couple fellow students who own pit bulls, and it seems to me that in general the pit bull owners I know just don't realize how to properly train and take care of a dog compared to people I know with different breeds. None of the dogs got walked or socialized nearly enough, my neighbors would take their pit outside just to do its business and then immediately bring it back it. It's a 75lb animal! It needs exercise! No wonder it would bark for hours everyday. Even my 25lb dog gets walked at least a couple miles a day. I get the feeling that a lot of pit bull owners simply buy the breed simply because its a pit bull, and think it makes them appear tough yet sentimental or something along those lines. The problem isn't the breed, its the clueless people buying them, unconsciously torturing them, and then wondering why their pet tries to snap people's arms off.

I have two friends with pitbulls and they are extremely loyal dogs. A hell of a lot better behaved than the majority of dogs I seen. And.. I'm not a dog lover.

I've seen the one pitbull get pickup and handed around to a bunch of drunk ass loud people and pitbull just looked at the people as to say "Please put me down you idiots."

I don't know the history of both pitbulls but both of the pitbulls are awesome and I would trust them more than any other dog around my kids. Obviously I wouldn't want my kids to be around any dog that has been raised by the owner to fight... wolfs, shepperds, doverman, red labs, etc...

That depends on the circumstances.

Was it self-defense (or defending his child) or did he track down the rapist after the fact and murder him in cold blood? One of those acts is a CRIME and the other is not.
