Police say a block party in Harrisonburg got out of control Saturday afternoon.
Harrisonburg police say around eight thousand people were in the area of Port Republic Road near Forrest Hills.
Officers say the party turned into a civil disturbance and officers in riot gear were called to the scene.
Police say some of those attending the party threw bottles at officers.
Some students were pepper sprayed and police are still determining how many arrests were made.
Officers from Virginia State Police, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, Staunton Police and the Harrisonburg Fire Department
were on the scene.
Police say not all the attendees were students, but among the students were some who had traveled from other parts of the state to attend.
