It is clear now that the northern bracket will come down to Westfield, South County, Madison and Lake Braddock. South County may be the favorite at this point not sure.

Probably Hendo at Hayfield. They're without a doubt the most disappointing team this season. They have no wins so far (could end up winless). They consistently had above 500 seasons (usually 7-3 or 8-2 on average) and always made the playoffs every year for the last 10+ seasons. On top of that, Hendo got all these transfers too (like he gets every year) and still can't win a game.

Maybe Cville Coach (Shields) is on the hot seat as well. They may end up 4-6 or 5-5 which is not good for Cville standards or for their fans.

Neither on hot seat. Shields first year and they will likely finish around 500. He gets a chance to build his program. This is not talent wise the same Cville teams from 6-7 years ago. They are not loaded with talents and no real FBS players. Hayfield has won a ton past 3-4 years. I do not see them firing him just for a bad season. I see other teams and programs that need to make a Move. That Robert Lee team is pathetic. That guy should go. Mclean is bad too. W and L bad football. Way other teams to focus on who have not won ANYTHING the past 10 plus years!

Edwards has a very good arm, but struggles with decision making. That’s one of the things that’s keeping him from any big-time offers. That’s also why he struggles against SoCo, as the experienced coaches force him to make post snap reads. For all his pros and cons, Doc has designed a very good offense that allows the QB to know where he’s going before the snap, and that has really benefited Edwards.

Was at the Chantilly-Madison game. Never seen more of a classless group than Chantilly, started playing dirty once they starting getting their asses kicked. Coaches didn’t shake hands and looked like they had a few words for the Madison players and coaches. Can’t wait to watch them crumble in conference play!!!!

Fairfax fan here. I don't know about Chantilly and their classiness or lack thereof, but I'd say, based on what I saw last night, Robinson would give Chantilly a run for their money. Number 1 on Robo last night was particularly generous with the late hits -- late hits on our QB on consecutive plays. Aside from that particular example, Robo was doing a whole bunch of holding and chop blocking on our guys, and probably got called for more than 100 yards of penalties. The thing is, none of that was necessary. We were clearly overmanned in that game, and were going to lose. Our talent just doesn't compare to Robo's. They should know that. Given that, there was no reason for them to resort to dirty, cheap shot play. Maybe Robo thought that we should just lay down for them, and got made when we didn't.

McLean 41, Herndon 2

You’d have to go back years to find the last time McLean scored over 40 or won by over 3O. Maybe against TJ when TJ was still playing a regular schedule.

Bwhaaa... every year like clockwork someone is on this board complaining about Robinson chop blocks. It's like they can't change what they teach them there. Every. Single. Season.

Cut blocking is completely legal. Lots of teams do it. If you cut block frequently there will be times where your OL gets confused and one guy cuts a guy that someone else is blocking normally. That’s called a chop block and it’s a 15 yard penalty. I would imagine that’s what is happening. Too costly of a penalty to coach it incorrectly.

Didn't hayfield win 10 games last season? Can't just be off year going from 10 win season to 0-10. Something seriously off.

Don’t act like Madison is classy, late hits and cheap shots the entire game. Also pretty sure I saw #20 take Chantillys QBs towel on one of the last plays of the game and wave it around facing their stands after the game. Really classy team...

...not classy is students trying to fight at the snack bar w/ security needing to be present...

Can’t speak to the late thing... but was in the stands nearby for the start of the student part. That fight started because some of your drunken students went into the Chantilly student section and picked a fight which escalated... and don’t act like Madison isn’t a bunch of cheapshots

That's why everyone in the state says Doc is such a great coach.
He takes a decent athlete like Edwards and makes him into a superstar QB. Without Doc, Edwards would be just a regular high school QB. Its the same with the TE/DE Hibner, and WR/DB James, both decent athletes, but with Doc's coaching, they have excelled to the next level.
Lake Braddock already has 4 or 5 players getting college offers with more to come. That's another reason Doc is such a great coach.

Keep up the great work Doc and staff

The dumbass announced his “commitment” to the University of Lynchburg. One, it’s Lynchburg University. Two, Lynchburg is D-III and nobody has to commit, there’s no binding letter to sign, and there will be 100 kids who’ll show up, each saying they committed to Lynchburg.

We lost to a cheating, dirty playing team. Coach’s should be ashamed and the refs who continuously allow Madison to play in suchh a fashion should be fired. Never in my life have I seen such a dirty group of players. The refs allow these dirty players to play like that cuz they white suburban kids and have a squeaky clean looking image. Now if it was a team from PWCO, say Freedom-W or Stonewall, flags would be flying, players and coach’s would be ejected. That’s the truth! That’s ok cuz we learned an important lesson. Purple Platoon ain’t gong nowhere. We’ll see you all in playoffs again.

^^^^ lol, what an idiot.

If you had watched the Freedom/Westfield game last year, you'd have seen that Freedom is about the dirtiest team around. They put the 'thug' in thug football. Their gameplan was to knock Kim out of the game. Probably weren't looking to break his leg, but the chimp parents were cheering when it happened, that's for sure.

But Westfield didn't whine like pussies the way you are. We took the loss and moved on. And then Freedom ran into an even dirtier team the next week when Manchester beat the living shit out of them. I didn't see that game but from what I've been told, it was like watching the bloods and the crips in a street fight.

Stop being a baby and take it like a man. Your team got manhandled. Your vaunted O-line was shredded. Move on.

Madison looks pretty good for only returning a handful of starters. One of the only teams in the region who gives Westfield a good game every time. They looked shaky to start the season but it looks like they are putting things together. Very physical and fundamentally sound team. Obviously WF, Soco, and F-WB are the front runners in the region but Madison shouldn’t be counted out just yet.

Are really serious?
If Doc is such a great coach and has all these players that are getting college offers, then why is he 1 and done in the playoffs?

LB should be a top 4 seed with no more than 2 losses. They should be able to beat any of the bottom 4 teams in their region. I’d expect them to go 2-3 rounds this season.

How about them LB JV boyz, their lockerroom business and the parties. Doc finds out and you will never play again you nasty lying losers. JV making varsity and coaches look bad at LB.

No one in the region has as much talent as LB has, they should easily be the front runner in region C. Its the easiest region in the state.

LB should get an easy draw the first round of the playoffs. They will have problems with TCW MTV SoCo and West Springfield, in the 2nd round.

Doc and his staff have struggled in the post season since he has been at LB,1-2 is his playoff record. The only thing Doc brought to LB is the players behave in school, I guess for some, that is enough.

If LB doesn't win the region this year with such an easy draw, then shame on the coaching staff for not preparing these players well enough.

LB is talented on offense, but not as good as people think. I went to see them against Robinson last week and came away unimpressed. Robinson is average at best and they played with LB for most of the game. If not for a turnover at the goaline and a blown coverage by Robinson before half LB would have been down by at least one score if not two. The way Robinson ran the ball against them that may have been too much for LB to overcome in the second half.
LB will lose to the first physical team with sound defense they run into in the playoffs. Problem is there aren’t many in that region besides South County.

We all know Doc wanted the PWCO schools moved out of their region. Remember when he & his LB team were afraid to get off the bus when they played Woodbridge in the playoffs a couple of years ago.

After last week's standings, I indicated that the Region C playoff standings were evolving into three groups -- a group that is almost certainly in, a group that is almost certainly out, and a middle group vying for the last two playoff slots. This week's standings confirm that, and show a tightening within that middle group.

The top group of six, who will almost certainly make the playoffs, consists of the same teams. There was some swapping of positions (for example, TCW and Falls Church), but the group is the same.

The bottom group of three -- Edison, Hayfield, and Annandale, remain unchanged, and these three are almost certainly eliminated.

The middle group had a shake up. Before last Friday's action, Woodson was #7 and Fairfax was #8, both above the cut off line, and both with a bit of separation from Justice, Robinson, and West Potomac. Woodson's and Fairfax's losses, combined with wins by Justice, Robo and WestPo have shuffled the standings and tightened them. Fairfax's loss to Rob knocked them below the line and one point behind Robo, who is also below the line. Justice lept ahead of everyone, and Woodson is hanging on to the last slot.

This Friday, the action is Justice v. Edison, Woodson v. West Springfield, Robo v. South County, Fairfax v. Lake Braddock, and West Po v. TCW. I would expect Woodson, Fairfax, and Robinson to be heavy underdogs, WestPo to be a slight underdog, and only Justice to be favored. A Justice victory over Edison may give them enough separation from the pack (combined with the other likely results) to ensure them a playoff berth, and leaving WestPo, Robo, Fairfax, and Woodson to compete for the final spot.

Remaining schedules:

WestPo-- TCW, Westfield, Hayfield
Robo -- South County, Woodson, West Springfield
Fairfax -- Lake Braddock, South County, Woodson
Woodson -- West Springfield, Robo, Fairfax.

Justice’s weak schedule will keep them close to the other teams even with a win. They will most likely finish 6-4 with a loss to FC. The other remaining teams can probably catch them at 5-5, but not at 4-6.

West Pot needs to beat TC to get to 5-5 due to most likely loss to WF
ROBO needs to beat WTW and WS due to most likely loss to SoCo
FFX is going to be out
WTW needs 2 of their next 3

So, if WPOT loses to TC this week Justice would pretty much lock up a spot since ROBO and WTW need a win against one another to get in. Also if WPOT loses a 4-6 WTW, ROBO, or WPOT will get in as the 8th seed.

With Yorktown 6-1 and South Lakes sitting at 4-3, not sure even if South Lakes beats them on Nov. 1 they will make up the points. Weird times these days in Liberty District, only a few years ago South Lakes, Hayfield, and Madison were top of there...

Don't sleep on Yorktown. They held MV to 14. Were up at half 3-0
and could have won but for a bad call in end zone.

1. Annandale @ West Potomac (-20)
- WP won 28-20. Annandale played them tough.

2. Centreville (-3) @ Mount Vernon
- MV won 24-10. Is Shields to blame for some of what’s happening with Cville, or is it just a down year talent wise?

3. Chantilly @ Madison (-7)
- Madison won 31-7. Didn’t expect it to be this one sided...

4. Falls Church (-14) @ Edison
- FC won 35-31. This one was closer than I expected.

5. Freedom-Woodbridge (-30) @ Woodbridge
- Freedom won 45-7. I wish they were still in one of the Northern Region brackets. Woodbridge has a guy committed to LSU, and he has plenty of D1 talent around him. Woodbridge has been a disappointment thus far...

6. Hayfield @ T.C. Williams (-10)
- T.C. won 60-19. Hayfield with a garbage time TD. What in the hell is going on at Hayfield? Henderson has clearly lost the locker room, but are the Hawks just lacking in talent this year?

7. Lee @ Wakefield (-14)
- Wakefield won 46-20.

8. McLean (-3) @ Herndon
- McLean smashed Herndon, 41-2, at the Hornets’ Homecoming. McLean probably won’t make the playoffs this year, but they are heading in the right direction.

9. Robinson (-7) @ Fairfax
- Robinson won 42-28.

10. South County (-21) @ West Springfield
- SoCo won 35-18. WS is better than most of us expected, SoCo is just one of the top dogs in the region this year.

11. South Lakes (-3) @ Washington-Lee
- SL won 21-3.

12. Stuart @ Marshall (-17)
- JEB won 42-41. Seems like this was an exciting game!

13. Westfield (-35) @ Oakton
- Westfield over the Cougars, 51-7. Could’ve been a lot worse...

14. Woodgrove @ Stone Bridge (-21)
- SB keeps it going, 44-14. Anyone seen them in person this year? How do they look?

15. Woodson @ Lake Braddock (-21)
- LB won 56-27. Heard this one was tied at the half? That’s not a good sign if your LB.

16. Yorktown (-28) @ Langley
- Yorktown won 31-7.

Not very many intriguing games this week. I think a lot of these games will be blowouts. We’ll see, though...

1. Herndon @ Yorktown (-35)

2. Lake Braddock (-24) @ Fairfax

3. Lee @ Marshall (-24)

4. McLean @ South Lakes (-14)
- McLean with a chance here to show us they are on the verge of being relevant again!

5. Mount Vernon (-24) @ Hayfield
- Wanted to make the spread higher…

6. Oakton @ Chantilly (-24)
- The Chargers beat the teams that are no good…

7. Park View @ Thomas Jefferson (-3)
- Haven’t been doing TJ spreads because they play a lot of home school teams, and teams I have never heard of. They have had a good year, though. Are the eligible for the playoffs?

8. Robinson @ South County (-21)
- The Rams will have to play very physical if they want to keep it close in this one.

9. Stone Bridge (-21) @ Briar Woods
- Briar Woods isn’t bad. SB is too much to handle, though. They probably already have Highland Springs on their mind…

10. Stuart (-14) @ Edison

11. Wakefield @ Falls Church (-21)

12. Washington-Lee @ Langley (-6)
- Toss-up here. I think Langley gets it done in a close game.

13. West Potomac @ T.C. Williams (-7)
- Game of the week. Love this match up. T.C. looking for their 5th win in a row.

14. West Springfield (-17) @ Woodson

15. Westfield (-28) @ Centreville
- If anyone knows how to slow WF down, it’s Coach Shields. Just too much talent on the Bulldogs side of the ball. Centreville to miss the playoffs?

NO, not eligible, a team has to play at least 9 VHSL recognized opponents, TJ only plays a few.

Annandale played them tough, and that spelled bad news for my spread prediction. Got the winner right, though.

Accurately predicted an underdog Mt. Vernon team to win, which counts as a correct pick and a correct pick against the spread.

Correct winner and correct against the spread.

Got the correct winner, but missed big time against the spread. Hard to figure Falls Church. They got a big win against Marshall, a game they should have lost, yet struggled with Edison, who has only won one game (I believe).

I'll count this as correctly picking both the winner and against the spread, but I obviously thought too highly of Hayfield. I've had trouble believe they were this bad. No more. I'm a believer now.

Correct pick and correct against the spread. This one was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Got this right on both accounts. Is McLean for real, or is Herndon this bad.

Got the winner right, called the spread right, and as an added bonus, correctly picked what the winning margin was. I should get three points for this one.

This call was pretty accurate, as well.

Got the winner and against the spread correct.

So Marshall was the favorite and they lost. I picked Marshall to win but not cover. I think this qualifies as getting the winner wrong but the spread right. After all, Marshall didn't cover.

When it comes to high school games, and given that these are kids, I really don't like saying that one set of kids are so bad against the other. A 35 point spread is my limit here, as that's where the running clock kicks in. Perhaps I shouldn't be so nice.

Lake Braddock pulled away in the second half to both win and cover. I'm right on both counts. My prediction about Woodson not winning another game this year is still pending.

Got the winner and against the spread correct.

My picks against these spreads:

>

As I said, I don't like saying that a group of kids is bad, and 35 points is usually the line that I draw. However, McLean beat Herndon by more than 35 and, as good of a season that McLean has had, they aren't a good as Yorktown. Yorktown wins and covers.

>
> 2. Lake Braddock (-24) @ Fairfax

I have a hunch about this game. I'll take Lake Braddock to win, but not cover.

>
> 3. Lee @ Marshall (-24)

Marshall should be made about the last two weeks, and will take it out on a Lee squad that lost to TJ. Marshall wins and covers.

>
> 4. McLean @ South Lakes (-14)
> - McLean with a chance here to show us they are on
> the verge of being relevant again!

Relevant? No. They've just moved out of laughingstock territory. South Lakes will be too much for them, and now that South Lakes got surprised by Langley, they aren't going to sleep on anyone again. South Lakes wins and cover.

>
> 5. Mount Vernon (-24) @ Hayfield
> - Wanted to make the spread higher…

I had trouble believing Hayfield was bad, but now I'm a believer. Also, Mt. Vernon is really good. Mt. Vernon wins and covers.

>
> 6. Oakton @ Chantilly (-24)
> - The Chargers beat the teams that are no good…
>

I really want Oakton to win this game for at least two reasons. One, due to Chantilly's loudmouth fans. Second, and Oakton win is better for the playoff hopes of my team. But I don't think Oakton will pull it out. I'll take Chantilly to win, but not cover.

> 7. Park View @ Thomas Jefferson (-3)
> - Haven’t been doing TJ spreads because they

My policy is to not pick in games involving TJ. I'm taking a pass on this one.

>
> 8. Robinson @ South County (-21)

Physical, or dirty? I think South County is better than Lake Braddock, and Lake Braddock did handle Robo. South County wins and covers.

Stuart wins and covers.

>
> 11. Wakefield @ Falls Church (-21)

Falls Church beats Marshall, but barely ekes by Edison, whom they should have destroyed. That tells me that I shouldn't ever give points if I am taking Falls Church. Falls Church wins, doesn't cover.

>
> 12. Washington-Lee @ Langley (-6)
> - Toss-up here. I think Langley gets it done in a
> close game.

Langley has been schizophrenic this year, but W-L has been consistently dismal. That's enough for me to take Langley and give 6 points.

>
> 13. West Potomac @ T.C. Williams (-7)
> - Game of the week. Love this match up. T.C.

This one might be the hardest one. West Po is fighting for a playoff spot, and they did give Mt. Vernon a decent game. I'm going to take West Potomac to win outright.

>
> 14. West Springfield (-17) @ Woodson

West Springfield wins and covers. I'll renew my prediction that Woodson won't win another game this season.

>
> 15. Westfield (-28) @ Centreville

In the past, there is no way that I would have taken Westfield in this particular game if I had to give this many points. But Centreville doesn't seem like they are what they used to be, so, with fingers crossed, I'll take Westfield to win and cover.

Robo is a complete shit show right now. Team is completely fractured. If the coaches could get on the same page and call a play other than a dive or reverse dive, they might have a chance to win a game. Time to let someone else make the play calls. The old guard is resenting the pass game and finding reasons to keep things the way they are..

The problem with Robinson they either need to be a Wing T team or a Spread team, not try to do both. It takes a lot of practice time for timing and getting use to the receivers for the spread, as well as practice time for running the Wing T. In high school there just isn't enough time to perfect both.

Maybe they should look at running Pro Set, similar to what Westfield does, that would at least help them from being so one dimensional. It gives them the running game they are so good at and adds the passing element they so badly need.

I think a new coaching staff would certainly benefit this program, who has not been relevant since Bendorf retired.

Far to many excuses for Centreville. Before the season started they were loaded. Now they have no talent? And who is HCs publicist. He was a coordinator for a year or two. Simmons had to replace him as OC when he gagged. The CV boosters were enamored with anybody from WF. Stop making excuses. CV sucks. The staff has sucked. Amen... Something to consider-they lost to Stone Bridge by 14 who is undefeated, TC by 4, Mt Vernon by 14 both are 6-1 in believe. And those games weren’t decided until the fourth quarter. The 2 big issues are the OL who isn’t getting better and the play calling.

TCW is 6-2 (lost to SoCo and West Springfld). But your point is made. They are not terrible. Just not as good as last year.

Something else to consider about CV, despite the 6-2 record of TC and 6-1 record of MTV:

SB: A decent margin to lose by against a very good team, but it was an early season game before either team was probably honed in. If they played now.....

TC: As usual a bunch of athletes who, this year, can really score (against bad teams at least). But TC's defense is far from good. I don't put much stock in the 4 point loss for this game against TC's and CV's overall resume this season.

MTV: Another athletic team that is on an upward trajectory, but one that will most likely not advance past the second round because their schedule will not prepare them well and the record is deceptive based on that schedule - and CV lost by 14 so that puts them at least a level lower than MTV. If CV even makes the playoffs they will get decimated by WF or MAD.

Is he really living in the Chantilly boundary? I bet he transferred to Centreville for basketball anyways.

There’s no transferring in public school(extremely difficult) you either live in the school boundary or you don’t. He’s not the only kid that lives in Chantilly boundary playoff for Centreville, couple others and don’t even get started on the lower level JV & FR squads, another handful of kids who live in Manassas playing over there. Guess Shields brought the cheating ways of WHS with him to CVHS.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo, Westfield never cheats, they don't have to. Kids are born with gold helmets in their cribs, right?

After the post about excuses all see are more excuses. Shields has not lived up to the hype bro. Ain't no way Haddock would have lost to TC or MV. Both suck in the shitty estate region in the state. No saying they'd beat beat WF but the be 8and 2. Shills might be 5 and 5. Keep it real. He was hyped

CVHS parents/boosters are the worst!all you jerks who sit up in the stands raking Shields and his son over the coals when this team is flawed. Upper class-men provide no leadership and has been that way for many years now. You all raised a bunch of snotty nosed selfish self entitled cry babies. Point the finer at yourself. Thankfully most of the trouble makers will be gone next year and the rebuild can truly begin.

Centreville was always known for that sort of thing so to suggest Shields "brought" it with him is hardly necessary. But I will say, things are complicated these days with kids in joint custody situations and living with various relatives having nothing to do with football in the first place. Sometimes I have seen people being accused of "living" out of district when really that's not what's happening. Again other things factor in. Not the case here but I have seen a kid get expelled from a school, the school system puts him in a new school, sits out a year and then be allowed to play at the new school even though they aren't living in that school district.

MaxPreps has caught on to what everyone else already knew. ALL the power teams in Class 6 are in the South Regional now. With 6 of the top 7 teams from the South Regional, it looks like Westfield will have a cake walk into the State Tournament AND which ever team represents the South will be battle tested and will trounce the Bulldogs. They've chosen to take the easy road and keep their schedule easy and safe!!!!

# School Rec. Rating Str.
1 Freedom 7-0 41.1 9.4
2 Westfield 7-0 40.4 14.5
3 O. Smith 6-1 38.5 7.4
4 S. County 7-0 36.1 6.0
5 C. Forge 6-1 35.8 15.8
6 Massaponax7-1 31.4 13.6
7 S.Jackson 6-1 31.0 10.3

South County is the South section of the bracket? At any rate, I think you are mistaken if you think it will be a cakewalk for Westfield to get past SoCo or even Lake Braddock/Madison in a re-match.

Interesting VHSL Reference has it:

Team Rating W-L SOS
1. Westfield 106.0 7-0 73.6
2. Freedom 99.3 7-0 68.0
3. Colonial Forge 97.0 6-1 77.2
4. South County 95.0 7-0 62.0
5. Oscar Smith 94.5 6-1 68.5
6. Massaponax 92.3 7-1 71.5
7. Stonewall Jackson(M) 89.8 6-1 68.1

So yes, those admins at Westfield are so smart and conniving that they were able to manipulate the realignment and this was their plan. Play a soft easy schedule to make sure they are unprepared for a tough playoff contest. Smart enough to fix 32 committee votes but not smart enough to see a flaw in their plan. Did you know the earth is flat too?

Displaying the White Power sign of racist supremacy.

Wow. College recruiters will be dismayed.

interesting to go back and look at some of the prior scrimmages that teams have had this year. Freedom-WB might've had the hardest tune up schedule

Nah. CV boosters knew Jon because he's been coaching their kids for years in SYA. It had little to do with him coming from WF (that didn't hurt tho).

Centreville's problem is also Jon's problem. Jack is an average QB at best but Jon won't bench his own son. No arm and average speed and quickness. It's too easy to take him out of the game with a decent rush.

Hope he improves his play next year. Jon needs to put in a scheme to play to Jack's strengths, not put in a game plan like he's Noah Kim, which he is not.

Hate to break it to you but literally no one with any semblance of common sense believes that the "OK" sign is a racist and/or white supremacist gesture.

Just for the record I have a lot of great arguments why this okay sign bullshit should be ignored and we should continue using this gesture in the normal culture context it has been up until now but this is a football thread so I won't bother. Suffice to say I am hearing the peace sign is now an anti-LGBTQ gesture that means "Two Genders."

Agreed. This is a football thread and should discuss football. Calling someone a racist based on the circle game is a bad as being a racist if not worse.
