Ride or die. 757 will kick 703 butt all day long, every day when the eagle flies.

757 4 Life. 703 players end up riding the bench in FCS. 757 players play for BCS in FCS. Simple fact of life.

"Still floored that LB had difficulty with Westfield with all of that 'supposed' talent in both games. Henderson was supposed to be a great passer and with 2-3 receivers over 6' tall and struggled to score. I understand that LB was missing a couple of their best defenders but WF barely moved the ball on offense."

Not sure what game you watched, if you even saw the game, but just Thrasher-Walker and Evan Gray alone had over 250 rushing yards. Add Burns rushing and receiving yards there's an easy 300. Truth is if the ref wasn't so blind he would have given WF a TD on their first possession. Film shows ball broke the plain before Thrasher-Walkers knee was down. Could have been more than 19 points for WF if they're QB didn't throw two awful picks in the LB redzone, one of them was in the endzone. LB didn't put WF away because contrary to popular belief WF actually has a strong D.

hmm
I coach outside the division but from the outside in.
2013 LB has 12 wins in a row!
2012 LB has 8 wins and loses to region champion(team that beat Cville and Westfield)
2011 LB has down year with like 7 wins? not sure on this
2010 LB wins region and loses to state champion
2009 LB wins region and loses to state champion

If doing this well is considered god awful and worse then squirrel poop what would people say about most of the other teams around who don't do these things?

in the last 10 years The only team to win anything more than these guys is Westfeild. And well last I checked Westfield is one of the best programs in state history (in terms of success per year as only opened for like 15 yrs?).

If people really want to attack LB there are probably a multitude of things to say. But laughing at their lack of success means every post must be from Westfield or it's just not credible. But then Westfield is who they are by, arrogantly be it, believing they do things the right way which doesn't include fairfax underground attacks on people below them.

So, maybe all the LB hate is coming from somewhere internally?

Nothing against UNC. I feel bad for them. A good program, and they will realize that they wasted a spot on the Mistake from the Lake. All hype and bluster. Live and learn. Won't see the field.

Smoke there's fire Hendo is an ok qb but a classless taunting football player that will be fine if he grows up and becomes a little more humble. If he is all met 1st team justs shows this really is a down year for metro area qbs.people on here are not jealous of mistake by the lake but just dont like them much. Westfield has more recent success over the last 15 years and no one is jealous of them. Its the lack of class and humility at Lake Braddock. If this hurts maybe they should self reflect and figure out why they are the most hated school in nova?

Nat - apologies. I don't have a problem with UNC. I do have an ax to grind, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, it's all with Poythress, Henderson, and Lake Braddock. I'm mad because I never got my shot in high school because someone was better than me. Instead of getting over it, I relive it through high school kids today. I don't mean to be so pathetic, but I'm 48 and my mom didn't tell me she loved me enough because she was so busy servicing the other dads in the neighborhood. By the way, I'm also posting as gingerboy, and rootboy too. You can tell because my gingerboy posts come literally 2 minutes or less after my other posts.

It's too bad, because I say that lake Braddock won't register a blip in the annals of NoVA football. Yet, here I am creating as much publicity as I possibly can for lake Braddock. I really have nothing to do. No wonder my wife hates me, I'm so boring. Even my hand falls asleep when I rub one out.

How about a shout out to Westfield coaching staff. It is one of the regions best. They consistently take teams that are lacking true D1 talent and make them consistent winners. The 2011 team loses 20 starters and they come back with a 12-1 season. This years team loses QB that led District in all passing categories, RB with 1700+ yards and an all district o-line and just reloads again. That is coaching pure and simple. Hats off to the Westfield coaching staff. Let's see if they can pull a rabbit out of their hat on Saturday and beat a Centreville team that is deserving of their #2 ranking.

Totally agree. Look at Braddock, 2 Div 1 players and a few FCS players but not enough talent across the board to beat Westfield which prob has zero Div 1 players. Of course Centreville only has one D1 player on rivals.com (Tutt) but has lots of talent and depth.

So yes team execution and coaching will be so important for whichever Northern team faces Oscar Smith (assuming they win).

As a CVHS fan, I'm much more nervous about WF than would have been about LB. Something about playing a team the 2nd time after beating them the first time. See CVHS-WF 2011, Oakton-WF 2012, and of course WF-LB 2013.

Anyone know the extent of Thrasher-Walker's injury?

That's because starters Tutt, Turner, O'Connor, Nicken-Yzer, Boose, Love, Liddle, Jennings, Behne, Brooks, Wright and Skule are all juniors. Not saying they are all D1, but this time next year, several more will be on rivals.com

I am less concerned. I was worried that CVille's secondary would struggle with LB WR's and it could be a high scoring affair

It may be the opposite with WF. Their Defense is solid, and probably underrated.

I think CVille's defense will hold well, especailly if Thrasher_Walker is out or not 100% but if they are within a couple of TD's late, no telling what could happen.

Agree totally. These coaches get the most out of what they have and are great at putting the players they have in the best position to win. A bit conservative at times with offensive play calling, but you can't argue with the results (35-4 last three years in the "post-Verbanic era."

Hey Bruin Fan, how are you feeling now? Both you and Robinson are sitting home watching Westfield play again. Westfield throttled you last year, you QB was outplayed; should have beat you in the first meeting and left you standing on your home field wondering what the hell happened on Saturday. Do you still think they are overrated? They don't have the talent of LB or Centreville, but I think the better term in "underrated."

Thanks so much for the blast from the past. I still remember going to the CV games back then. CV won their last 3 playoff games by a total of 7 points or something. Great run.

Yes it's funny how Hall and Montgomery played for the same college and (eventually) pro teams.

After reaching the state title game in 2009, the Bruins had fallen to either the state finalist or Northern Region champion in each of the last three years, demonstrating just how close Lake Braddock was to a breakthrough.

Despite the haters LB has a good football program.

Good, but not great. Westfield has a one dimensional offense and how does LB not stop them on that last drive???

This was a stunning defeat that could have been avoided. How was it that stud AJ Alexander was virtually shut out in this game?

Lake Braddock does have to be commended for fielding a consistently good team year in and year out, but I think personally think that article was right. They have hit their peak as a team, and I think they will have a difficult time returning to the state title game in the next couple years.

WF really did not have any problem moving the ball on LB. It was just a LOT of critical mistakes and not finishing drives. Heck, they had 20 first downs to LB's 14. Realistically WF should have scored 2-3 additional TD's - that's 14-21 points. But they didn't... and it could have/should have lost them the game.

WF defense has been under-rated all season. They are pretty darn good. Never let up more than 28 points in a game all season. In 3 PO games they have given up 42 points (12+14+16)... CVille has allowed 62 points in their last 2 PO games.

It would be different had Westfield had played socos offense or stonewalls offense

Stranger things have happened in Concorde District play y'all. C-ville might be the better team but the better doesn't always win..Remember when Robinson was going to go undefeated and on Monday night westfield beat them 21-20? or how about when Chantilly beat WHS in the playoffs in 2006 after getting schmaked in the regular season? If WHS comes out and wins I would not be surprised in the least bit.

and Cville has allowed 62 points in their last 3 playoff games. Why not include the shutout??

It's a more dramatic comparison that way, but sure, WF has given up 30 points in last 2 games while C'ville has allowed 62.

LB scored 595 points this year - that's more than Westfield has ever put up in a single season. WF held them to 28 and 16. Not bad. C'ville also got 28 in the first game. If WF holds them to 16 I think they have a shot at winning. Now do I expect that to happen? No. But that's why the play the game.

...and 6 or the 62 were garbage pts put up late in the 4th Q by SJ's 1st team against Cville's 2nd team.

RydellRoad,

You are correct, Westfield does have a very solid defense, they typically don't get credit where credit is due. First game against Centreville I think Westfield had 4 or 5 starters out, 2 DT's, 1 DE, 1 LB, and 1 DB was playing on a bum knee, don't think he lasted the game.

However, to beat have any chance to beat Centreville this weekend Westfield cannot turn the ball over as much as they did the first go round. I think Centreville might have only recovered 2 fumbles but there were another 2 or 3 fumbled snaps. This past weekend Westfield was consistently in LB's red zone but a stop on 4th and goal, 2 horribly thrown passes turned INT's, and a fumble doomed any scoring ability.

Seems Westfield hasn't realized that their QB this year is not as good as last year’s QB at throwing the deep ball. They would be smart to throw short quick passes, especially given Centreville's ability to apply pressure. But to have a real chance to move the ball and score points against Centreville it would probably be smart to copy what SOCO did.

Centreville had a terrible time defending the option in that game, Westfield has run the Wildcat formation a great deal over the past 4 or 5 weeks. Burns, #1 on Westfield is the QB in that package, he's much faster and a better athlete than #4 for SOCO. Burns also doesn't have a bad arm which would help slow the run blitz. If you compare QB's with #1 under center, FB's, and RB's between SOCO and Westfield I would give the Bulldogs the advantage. Add a pretty decent sized line and who knows, maybe they can score enough points to win.

Of course, all just an opinion of someone who's seen a ton of high school football over the years and coached a few games. I can tell you one thing, if Westfield doesn't change up their offense this weekend doesn't matter how good their defense plays, Centreville will win!

Oh, I think they realize it - that's part of the reason why Burns has been playing QB more.

No question about it. I'd play Burns every down.

Agreed, and as a CVHS fan I am worried sick about this game. There is nothing worse than being a favorite, but playing an underdog who you have beaten before, but is on a roll and playing with nothing to lose. Westfield knows all about this scenario, being on the wrong end of the last two region finals.

IF CVHS loses this game, the season will be looked upon much differently than if they lose to a heavy favorite like Oscar Smith.

CVHS is very beatable. Their defense has shown they can be scored upon. Other than Wiggins they don't get much pass rush. Their offense relies more on big plays than sustained drives.

I just hope they aren't looking ahead, they focus on the game at hand. I predict a great game.

It's always good to see the Concorde teams representing in the finals, especially a rivalry game like Cville-Westfield. For those predicting a close game, does this come down to special teams? Watching the WF-LB game, that's what made the difference - WF blocked a PAT and got another chance at one they missed, converting it for the lead. LB didn't hit a FG well, so WF scooped it up and took it to the house. Those of you who are looking at this weekend's game objectively, what do you think? From what I've seen this season, I'd give the special teams edge to Cville.

Special teams: Centreville
Defense: Westfield
Offense: Centreville
Best Quarterback: Centreville
Game Control: Westfield
Best Coach: Centreville

Winning team: Who knows? Centreville has the edge.

I was lurking on this site to see if I could get the scoop on NORVA football before the Colonial Forge vs Oscar Smith game. I guess the not so talented programs in Hampton Roads likely feel the same way about the top teams “Recruiting” players, thus cheating to get ahead. Why is it assumed that cheating to get better is more likely than having highly developed feeder programs? Hampton Roads has Pop Warner Little League teams that perennially battle for a spot in the National Championship game. The Summer passing leagues down here are filled with players that are invited to top tier training camps throughout the country. As these kids build friendships and tight bonds at these events, they collectively plan to all play for the better high school programs. This is no different than academically gifted students looking to attend a Governors School, IB program, or attend private schools to make themselves scholarship worthy. Parents move to provide the best opportunities possible for their child in both circumstances. The only difference is that recruiting actually occurs in High School Academia.

The smartest kids in school study the hardest because they want to be the best, and the best athletes work the hardest too. The rest of us can only be fans of their abilities, hard work, focus and dedication. We should not be envious!

How can you give Defensive edge to Westfield when Centreville beat them 28-0 in the first meeting. Look at the similar opponents:

Robinson - Cville D gave up 9 pts, Westfield D gave up 13 and 14 the 2nd time
Chantilly -Cville D gave up 0 pts, Westfield D gave up 17
Herndon - Cville D gave up 20 pts, Westfield D gave up 28
Oakton - Cville D gave up 21, but 1st team only gave up 7, Westfield gave up 7
Hayfield - Cville D gave up 7 pts, Westfield D gave up 13, and 12 the 2nd time
South Lakes - Cville D gave up 0 pts, Westfield D gave up 7.

Westfield has a very good Defense, but I would not give them the edge.

If you want to get really technical here Westfield's starting D didn't give up any of those 28. They started to pull starters after the first quarter when they went up 28-0.

For the Herndon game, can make a similar statement. Cvill score against Herndon was 42-7 in the 2nd Q, so the 1st team D didn't actually give up 20 pts.

On another front... might Briar Woods and North Stafford be a better game to drive out to watch this weekend?

Do not write off Evans because he is a good back. If you look at some of his film he does have speed, is elusive and has good vision. In addition to that, he is a much bigger back than Thrasher-Walker.

Briar Woods has apparently shifted the site to the new turf at John Champe HS. Good move, as North Stafford would gain an advantage on a slow, muddy surface. Briar-Broad Run game chewed up the field last week.

19-7 score from first game was legit, as North Stafford earned the win. Still, look for a very close game, with Briar having a real shot at it.

I think they fall just short because of the disadvantage they have on both sides of the line.

Trip to finals at stake, not so much chance at state championship. That belongs to L.C. Bird from Chesterfield.

Good points re BW-NS. It's tough to beat a good team twice in 1 year. Also agree about Bird. The defending D6 champ should be favored in D5 if it gets by Salem. The team is undefeated and has beaten Lake Taylor and Hermy. Any chance Salem takes down Bird? Salem was beating OLakes late but gave up 2 Q4 TDs and lost. Concorde teams arguably are more battle-tested this year than teams such as Bird, Smith and a OLakes. When not used to trailing, some teams don't respond like C'Ville did vs SoCo and Westfield did v LB. I saw the Smith-Lake Taylor opener which was cool bc it was the defending D5 and D6 champs. Yet that was over 3 months ago and I haven't see Westfield or Salem play. Am going to C'Cille this weekend to see which team will rep the South.

Watch out for the Robinson Rams next year. Although losing key seniors like Matt Choi (OL/DL), JP Vittori (offers from NOVA, CNU and Maine) and Charlie Phillips (H), the rams are poised to make a miraculous state title run in 2014. Anchored on the offense by Matt Strain (C) and all-state worthy Eric Williams (G). Williams also heads a strong defense, with the possible return of Rafay Rana along with the standout corner Marcus Denham. The will have to do this with a new coach, but look to be a strong contender in the Northern Region.

Yes 10,000 people, thankfully my kid got my ticket today. Ticket line was horrible last week, can't imagine what it will be like this week when probably twice as many people will be there. I'll go for 24-14 CV.

Tyler Love and Nickens-Yzer are healthier than ever. Nickens-Yzer was finally cleared to resume his duties on offense. It's been several weeks so I expect him to be rusty running the ball however, he's healthy enough to resume his prowess in making lanes for #23 on the sweeps. So watch for the long and sustained drives to return this week for Cville...Cant wait!!!

Speaking of health except for Thrasher-Walker Westfield too is as healthy as they've been all season. Those of you who don't think Evan Gray is a comparable RB are mistaken. He's close to Thrasher-Walkers speed but 20 pounds heavier. Chase Koon, Westfields DT is playing FB, there's a 250 pound back, he's played the position before.

Oh, and remember the LT, RG, TE, DT, DE, MLB, and S that missed the first Westfield-Centreville game are back. Think that will be a huge plus, especially on the O line.

Hi all, hsfballfan here. Yes it is me (I understand that there have been some impostors over the last few weeks, not surprised). Shout out to Coach, Interesting, Keeping It Real, Eastern VA Fan, Rydell Road, Nat4Lee, Steve2K, Viking, The Kicker, Rootboy (even you my old nemesis-smile), and there appear to be some additional similarly serious posters such as VTBoy, CatDad, Mysterio Maco, Inquisitive One, NewgateDenizen, Fan, Just Saying, Cpt Morgan, others (sure I am missing some good posters, sorry - no slight intended).

Well even though I left for awhile I could not resist the temptation to comment on a Centreville Westfield state semis!!!!! Saturday will be nirvana. Well here goes.

Although I would have loved to see Centreville take Henderson and the boys to the cleaners there is nothing better for a CVille fan than to have Westfield in the mix for the state semis. You have the state semis, holy cow - winner goes to Charlottesville baby. You have 10,000 fans on a Saturday afternoon watching NOVA football. And of course you have the Centreville Wfield rivalry (think Mich OSU, Cowboys Redskins, etc.). Place will be hopping and I will be yelling with all the rest. So what will happen? Surprise surprise I did a little film study and some computing and here it is. 28-14 CVille wins.

How did I get there? Well first my fellow serious posters will remember a few weeks back I suggested a CVille 35-21 win over Lake Braddock if that matchup were to happen. Well I modify to 28-14 here because Westfield's defense is better than LB's but WF's offense still has some to prove. How do I see the game going? Of course everyone will be amped up to start and I actually see each team scoring a touchdown early on. The question will come around the 2nd quarter. I sense that Centreville although maybe shut down on a possession or two is going to score fairly consistently. Question will be whether Westfield with Evan Gray, Devon Burns, and the coach says he will possible even play sophomore Donteiro Moore a bit at RB consistently cash in on multiple drives. I think it is possible but not probable. Remember why Centreville had relative trouble with SOCO and some with Stonewall. Fast, athletic QBs. I think Westfield unless they really pull some rabbits out with tons of Devon Burns with wildcat offense etc will be too predictable. That plays in the hands of Cville's Defense. Also remember that Tyler Love is now back after injury which is really big. He anchors the middle of the field with sure tackling which will allow Chad Wiggins and others to roam.

Additionally there is a lot of talk of redemption for Westfield losing the last two years in the NR finals and also revenge for the 2011 game against Centreville. That might play a factor in a lesser game but do you think that CVille is going to be anything less than totally amped up in its own house with a state bid on the line to perhaps go and upset Oscar Smith (its own burr in the saddle)? Plus there is still enough of the Westfield winning all the time in years past against CVille to push them even further. I was more worried about the SOCO and Stonewall games because of the lack of familiarity. This game is like two brothers wrestling in the basement. I will be very surprised if either team is even close to being flat. So this will come down to athletes. Westfield has impressed me with the aforementioned offensive players and Sevener, Gibson, etc. on defense. But just not the same as CVille. Edge on athletes for Centreville, I think a wash on coaching, and of course a little homerism, that all gets me to a CVille win.

Peace out friends. Keep it classy Fairfax Underground!

Welcome back HSFBALLFAN! It indeed has been too long. Your analysis looks about right to me. The only thing that I disagree with is your final score.

The last time these two teams met, both offenses were only able to run due to the monsoon. Given the forecast for Saturday, I expect both teams to do more passing. Because I give the passing edge to Cville (by a wide margin), I expect this game to not be as close as you think. My guess is 49-14 as a final score.

I think hsfballfan has it right. Don't ignore Westfield's defense. Still, if the game gets out of hand you might see Centreville running up a couple extra scores to turn a 10-14 point win into a blowout...

Good to see you on again hsfballfan. I knew the haters could not overcome your Centreville homerism. LOL
Honestly though, welcome back man!

Well all I saw on here last week was how badly Westfield was going to lose to LB. Lot to be said trying to beat a good team twice in the same season. Pile on the thumping Westfield took the first go round, add all the trash talk by Centreville's players at the Bulldog players and that's tons of motivation. I would expect to see a good deal of the wildcat run by Westfield, option seems to be Centreville's only weakness in D. The Bulldog skill players in that formation are a tad better than SOCO's. Plus, I'm not so sure there is such a wide desperity in talent comparing the line ups as everyone thinks. Guess that's why they play the game. I would be shocked to see Westfield give up 49, 28 is the most they've allowed this season, pretty darn good defense.

Good to hear from you hsfballfan!!!

Centreville 31-14, too explosive on offense and solid on defense as well. Just too much for Westfield to handle. If it's close going in to the 4th quarter, though, look out. Should be another great rivalry game.

Shoutout to hsfballfan, good looks my man. Good to see you back.

Yeah, beach teams can't compete on their own, right? See lake Taylor, Ocean Lakes, Phoebus, etc., and then ask why D1 recruits so many players from there whose high schools are not named "Smith." Even go back to Percy Harvin's title team from Landstown, another school not named Smith. If you come to UVA, let's walk over to Smith's side together and tell them you think they cheat. And let's also fill out the district's anonymous web form for reporting illegal students. It's been on there for years. I don't think Smith needs any help and neither do C'Ville or Westfield. They are great programs all of which have titled and are good almost every year. Smith might not even get by Salem. We have great FB in the North but the South has a little game, too. How come you didn't complain last year when Bird beat OLakes or when Lake Taylor beat a tough Stone Bridge team?

With the biggest game ever in the Cville/Westfield rivalry, I knew you couldn't keep away.

Welcome back!
