It's unfortunate to say the least. Still, there are many questions to be answered at this point such as how he died.

Suggestion to certain posters here: you might want to get off you soap boxes and stop moderating this forum. Gordon Blvd is most definitely NOT a troll here. The garbage porn has been removed. Just because somebody here is not updated on the most recent breaking news is not a reason to call them stupid. That's why many users come here...so they can find out what is happening / has happened. You know...kind of like why Cary created this site to begin with.

This site is open to the public and is very lenient about moderation so try to be aware of that which may be (understandably) difficult because of the emotional nature of this topic.

Not at all. Colonels are a dime a dozen in this town, and they're regular people running the gamut from slackers to hardasses.

What I find strange is the fact the parents say they didn't know he was missing until late Monday night, after missing school and football practice? How is that possible. I have a student in high school and if they miss their first class of the day, we get a call (recorded message) asking why they weren't at school.

We get that call before school is over for the day.

@ The Northman - +1 to what you said

Gordon is most definately not a troll. Not always right, but at least has the guts to use a registered moniker & stand behind what she says. Note that her critics are not using registered accounts and so can pile on without being accountable.

Further, speculation about an unconfirmed suicide & about stress in the home really sucks. Don't we have Peggy Fox of WUSA to do that? Who needs amateur assholes when there's a professional being paid to be one?

As for the lack of a call from the school, maybe there was a phone # mixup. Many of us have given up landlines to rely on cell phones or otherwise changed numbers. Who knows if the data entry people have finished inputting changes? It's still early in the school year and Woodson has a large # of students.

Still and all, my heart aches for the family. Bad enough to spend a week worrying & wondering about your child, horrible to find your worst fears come true.

It would be interesting to know the time of death was..or time frame. Cause would be nice to.

Love how some of the posters want to go off and blame the police, teachers, "the lamb center", and even the family without anybody even knowing what any of the evidence is or what any of the people interviewed told the police.

I am willing to bet he was dead even before parents reported him missing.

I also love how some people think the police have some special magic to find people. That is a huge park with very deep thick woods. The creek often floods and it is not easy to move around that area once off the trails in some areas. Dogs are not perfect. Helicopter?? did you see the thick leaves? The police searched and people have searched without the police. One of the interviews with the searchers had them saying several searchers had walked past the kid several times in the last week.

But the best interview was the guy insisting it was not a suicide and he knows it....who this guy? doctor? detective? a pyschic?

The SAD truth is even if it is a suicide...I have no idea if it is or not....that a lot of people here will insist it was not a suicide.

Why not we all wait and see what info comes out in the next day or two before we all pass judgement. Not a sermon ...just a thought.

@ kenz - It was in the report on WUSA9. I won't dignify Peggy Fox by posting a link. She quotes an "anonymous police source" to imply that the family was at fault, and irresponsibly tweeted that this was a suicide, which is not yet confirmed. Google it if you want. Otherwise, look at WTOP or NBC4 for a more professional kind of reporting on the story.

To those wondering why the parents didn't know he wasn't in school, think about it. Woodson, like most HS's in the area, has 2000+ students. I tried to find an average of how many students are absent a day, but I think 10% is probably a close estimate, and that would be 200 students. How is a school suppose to contact 200 parents each and every day?

NBC news is reporting that the cops did not find the body with bloodhounds due to the rain. BS. Anyone who runs dogs know its not the rain that makes the dogs not able to find the scent but when the moisture evaporates a few days later. Fairfax needs to train the dogs a bit better or walk a bit further next time. 3/4 a mile down a paved trail the scent would still be there. FFX county goofs yet again.

@ jd - He's a minor, so autopsy results may not be made public. Even with an adult, med examiner doesn't always release the info.

Also, sounds like FCPD did not cover itself in glory with this one. That said, how much worse would a similar situation be in Back-of-Beyond, Anywhere, USA?

A "happy" kid just doesn't decide Monday morning that he is going to end his life.

It doesn't play out that way.

The warning signs were there--nobody was paying attention.

Time for family and friends to do some soul searching.

As far as the Keystone cops---good lord, could they be more incompetent?

Car found Monday. Is there evidence of foul play? Sign of struggle, foreign finger prints, etc...answer no.

Ok, move to step 2, no foul play, just missing person. And they can't find his body in ONE WEEK???

Disgraceful that his remains were there for a week, just disgraceful.

Incredibly thoughtful for this kid to do this away from his home...he was thinking of his family even at his darkest moment. Finding a kid hanging in your house is the worst thing imaginable. This kid was a nice kid clearly.

Why don't you stop calling people morons, its not the time nor the place for that. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. @ soul-seacher: sometimes those who are suicidal give no clues at all.

Unfair to the grieving parents to assume that this one was sending up smoke signals - it just doesn't always happen that way. The family will probably blame itself from here to eternity for missing signs that may not have been visible. Been there, done that, wearing a very sad t-shirt!

I'll say it again: this family has been tortured for a week wondering where their youngster was & why he wasn't touching base. After that time of torture, they got the worst possible news. So, second-guessing them right now is pretty cruel. Maybe we should quit doing that?

Indeed. That said, if the results are not released, that points rather strongly to suicide. :(

How so? What should they have done differently? Grid search of their own?

I would think about what I would expect of the police if my son went missing, but it's too painful to contemplate.

It's highly probable that the body found IS him... but there hasn't been an official ID made yet.

@ Kardinal - I'm thinking that if it were my kid, I'd want every possible effort taken, which I think you were getting at as well. What I was trying to say was that it seems to me that FCPD maybe didn't do their best, but at least here we have reason to have high expectations. A family in a more rural area, with a less well equipt & trained police force wouldn't even have a prayer!

I think I'm expressing myself poorly, but I hope you catch my drift.

@ westboro, you are a complete idiot. a police k9 bloodhound can follow a track that is about 2-3 days old. weather conditions play a big roll in it. just beause they found the car doesnt mean anything. maybe the family should have payed more attention to the signs of depression if this was a suicide, instead of blaming the police. do you know how many minors run away in the this country everyday? pd takes thousands of reports of runaways a year, and 99.9% of them are on their own, not by someone kidnapping them as you would like to think. wether you like it or not, the cops did what they were suppose to do. attempt to locate, enter him as missing, and ask the public for information. its the same they would do for a missing adult. without any evdence of foul play or medical problems, thats all that the cops will do. only difference is an adult would not be entered as missing unless there was a medical problem or suspected foul play. this whole thing is likely just another kid with depression issues that went untreated and undetected by his own family and friends. its sad it came to this.

The police saw no signs of foul play, because there wasn't. Maybe if the family or a friend would have came forward and admitted maybe something was bothering him, they could have realized that it was most likely a suicide and looked further.

I'll let you slide. It would be too hard for you to get off your fat ass and do something productive for society, so you stick to your computer and bitch about the police.

the cops wouldnt have found this kid alive. he killed himself before his parents even reported him missing. blame the cops all you want, but the kid decided he was going to take his life, so you cant blame them for that. if the kid showed any signs of being suicidal, his family and friends should of picked up on that. maybe he didnt show any signs of it, guess we will never know.

Question...

The Fairfax City Police found his car... was the initial investigation by the Fairfax County Police or the Fairfax City Police?

Also, to complicate matters, I think the body was in the county not the city. Perhaps jurisdictional problems are to blame for the apparent police problems??

If he committed suicide, nothing the police did or didn't do changes that, so blaming the police is just idiotic. If it was foul play, maybe his body wasn't there when the police first looked.

Suicide, kidnapping, foul play, or overdose... I'm not speculating on what happened.. I'm just saying that at first it definitely seemed like the police weren't all that into the situation.

I was just wondering if it was Fairfax City or Fairfax County Police who were leading the "search" / "investigation" at first last week? Because the end of picket road is right on the line between the county and the city.

Ok, now I see why I am an idiot!!! I get it now! Thanks for clearing that up for me. Here, I'll even prove to you I'm not an idiot anymore....

When you made THIS post on PAGE 3 of this thread telling everybody that they were morons for not watching the video ABOVE it should have been immediately and abundantly clear to everybody that by saying ABOVE you were actually referring to this post here; or maybe even this post here (the one by c-low); or maybe this post here. The only problem is that not one of those posts are/were actually ABOVE anything (on this page), but rather, they were all on the previous page!!!!

By the way...I knew that all along. I was just fucking with you because you're acting like a dick. My advice to you (for what it's worth) is to take it easy. There's no need to start going off on random posters here over such trivial shit. And believe it or not there are plenty of very intelligent people who post here and some of them are actually genuinely good people.

Oh, and just for the record; (not that it really matters) ABOVE does not, never has, and never will mean the same thing as on the previous page. No amount of arguing, name-calling, or cursing will convince me otherwise:) That's all I wanted to say. Thanks pal!

IMO the northern is just here to argue. It is quite apparent he is just feeding his inner troll and does not care about what happened to nice 17 year old kid whom lost his life but rather try to prove some trivial internet war with another. It is quite apparent this guy has lost touch with reality and needs to get a grip. Look at him, he cant even look past page 3 at the original news article wich im sure he never read. His life and argument is stuck on page 3. Nothing but a troll who is only here for his own satisfaction. He seems like a real psychopath. What a sick dude.

Read my post on the top of this page. I clearly said that this is an unfortunate event. I even empathized with people who may be acting out against other posters here due to the emotional nature of this situation. Then westboro. started up on me (as he/she did with every other person in this thread).

I simply defended myself. Of course it sucks that this happened. And by the way I have been following this story. Go to the first page of this thread and you will see that I was critical of the way police handled this situation almost a week ago.

Kind of quick to pass judgement and call me a psychopath, no?

Here is an article posted a few hours ago from Insidenove.com. Specifically the cause of death was addressed. Here is part of the article:

"Shortly after searchers found his body, Fairfax police put out the following Twitter message: “Remains of male found in deep woods in Thaiss Park. Apparent suicide. No ID pending exam by state medical examiner.”

A short time later, police then tweeted this message: “Too early in investigation of remains found in Thaiss Park to determine circumstances of death. Plz disregard earlier post.”

Police late Monday had not confirmed the remains were those of Bryan Glenn"

It appears that the cause of death is yet to be determined (or at least police have not released it).

Just a couple things I came across that I'm curious about:

1) I get that the doughnuts would have been a good "base" for any pills possibly taken... but why go all the way to DD in FFx circle when there is a bagel shop literally across the street that he'd have to pass first? Especially if he's not a big "sweets" eater? And wouldn't a bagel or two be "heavier" than a doughnut?

2) did anyone else read in the article that the body "could have been mistaken for another searcher" and that "the body was standing under a tree." STANDING? Was he hanging by chance? I've never known a dead body to maintain its body weight on its legs.

My heart sincerely breaks for this family and his friends and especially his brother. I can't imagine my world without my kids and, although I won't attest to it in a court of law, my siblings as well. I wish I could give them all the hug they probably really need right now.

Bryan's dad identified him at the scene.

The searchers who found him were on TV saying that it did not look like a suicide to them. Also mentioned the upright position, and he was wearing the clothes as seen at the Dunkin Donuts.

Police are in full CYA mode.

As a Woodson Alumni, and as a human being.... My thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, school and community. The negative thoughts that are actually being expressed are disgusting in nature, those who knew this young man and stumble on to these post must be devastated and hurt. They are dealing with enough. For those of you who are evil enough to express these twisted thoughts, put yourself in their shoes and imagine your feelings if you read the same about your loved ones.
As amazing and compassionate as our species can be, we are beyond disgraceful and twisted as you select few have proved.

I wish those who knew and loved him peace and answers, and simply know those with these horrid thoughts are simply attention getters and have obviously never experienced such devastation and loss in their lives. Or maybe they have, and feel this is a way to justify the fact they did not receive the outpouring of support that has obviously been expressed for this young man.

I was searching and you are wrong about it being dense in the woods...get off the trail and try walking through the woods...lots of large fallen trees and briars.
Also, the police were not very well organized...the searchers had trouble hearing the briefing because the detective was trying to shout out the critical information and they used Trader Joe's bags for evidence bags...I think they could have done a better job

@searcher - What would have made this search better? You want Louis Vuitton next search? But yeah, you are right about the woods being hella-thick once you get off the path............

@cj - I seriously doubt anything said on a stupid internet board is gonna really matter to them - I THINK THEY HAVE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO FOCUS ON!!!!! The only "evil" around here in only in yr head, yo - most ppl here are just curious as to how all this when down and want some answers cause for the last week or so, a LOT of questions have benn kinda brought to our attention concerning this young man, is all. Not twisted at all to wonder wtf is going on when for the last week his name and face was all on our mind.

@More - what do the cops have to cover up? You think they killed him? o_0

@Curiosity - well, 1) if he's not a big "sweets" eater maybe he never even considered going to a bagel shop and would go straight to the most obvious place he would know where doughnuts would be. 2) I'm thinking he was leaning kinda slumped against the tree. I dunno but that was my idea when I saw that. But I doubt there's any sorta conspiracy around that aspect of all this so I'll just take the searchers' word on that one, y'know?

@Northman, WBMA - did y'all know you were me? That's "MIGHTY" Funny LoLz

@mustbe - um, yeah. So white guy, family man, father of 4 - nice house off of West Ox? Mass Murderer? not likely, right? o_0

@meme - youve never jogged off the path lol

@frisky - I doubt jurisdiction played a part in any of this. And the reason why cops werent seemingly all "into this" is prolly cause most of them as soon as they heard the details already knew how this was gonna turn out - they just didnt know the whens and wheres of the body location, is all :( I know I was living in a little naive fantasy world when I was saying "he prolly run off" but yeah, the cold harsh reality is that he was dead long before anybody even knew he was missing and the cops (the ppl who deal with this scenario EVERY FUCKING WEEK) prolly saw the signs LOOOONG before anybody else did - but what are they gonna do? Tell the fam that? Put their beliefs on that out in public? How well do you think that would go down? LoLz - just look at how much vitriol I generated just by saying "he wasnt kidnapped", y'know?

@Mad Raymond- in LOTS of parts of this country, boy would not have been found for weeks, maybe months. Ppl around here are so used to immediate service they dont realize the harsh reality of something like this. And you are VERY RIGHT about stopping "judging" the fam over this. That should not really even be part of the discussion. If it is a suicide, then that simple fact is all the public needs to know - after that, this becomes a private matter, y'know?

@westboro - why are you so ignorant that you would think that anybody who has a difference P.O.V from you is me? That was pretty funny to read this morning - but no, I was busy last night not thinking about you while apparently "Gordon Blvd" was all you could think about. Sad, yo............

to all my haters: use your anger to honour yr friend, ignore what you think of me and focus on the happiness and joy he brought you in your life. If he was the sorta boy who'd want his passing to spark hate in your heart to a complete stranger, then I guess I am wrong about him. But I willing to bet he was the sorta kid who would rather you think about the good stuff he did in life and the smiles he gave you rather than have his memory generate anger. That's all.

Prayers for ALL in Cavalier Country today..................

My prayers are also with family, friends, and community. I am just a random person, but I lived in Fx city and had a business there in the seventies. I have been following this heart breaking story for the last week and am very sorry how it's turned out. It is a tribute to this young man and his family that there was such an outpouring of help and support. I think it shows that overall there are a lot of decent and caring humans in our human community.
As far as the friends and other folks of Bryan's generation are concerned,
many of us geezers came up in a simpler age and never had to deal with the pressures and complexity you younger folks have to contend with now. Please do not mis-interpret my remarks, but sometimes our thoughts drive us to extreme places, but when it all gets too heavy, remember you are valued, you were called to be here, you have a lot of love to share with your human community, and you owe it not only to yourself, but to all the others who have given of their spirit.
If you are feeling dark and alone, seek out others who might have some idea what you might be going through. There are always good people, who have also gone through some heavy changes, who are willing to pay back for the help they have received when they needed it.
One final note, all of you young people are beautiful and perfect just the way you are, just give youself time and take it easy.

Here's a question...why is it that there's a state-certified volunteer search-and-rescue group based right here in Fairfax, that's called all over Virginia and even other states by police/EMS agencies to organize and perform similar searches, yet Fairfax County would never deign to admit that they might need assistance with a search, and have repeatedly blown off this group when they've offered to help with similar cases in this county

A missing person is belatedly found by an ad-hoc group of friends and family members when this organization, Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, doesn't even get a call...not that it would have saved this young man's life, but the arrogance of the Fairfax County Police is remarkable.

After recently loosing a very close friend, I assure you that the naive comments posted online do effect family and friends of those lost. And as far as "twisted" simply goes towards the negative statements made by people who do now know, understand or obviously care about those who knew this young man.

Curiosity is one thing, jumping to conclusions is another.

Why even come to the internet to read comments then? Go grieve in silence. I don't see anyone's comments as naive and if you're going to get butthurt about people asking and responding to questions, you should probably just turn off your computer and take a walk outside.

@cj - fair enough. I am sorry for your loss and I do hope that others involved simply ignore comments that could hurt them

@need help - I ask you why the police and not the young man's family or friends would be responsible for contacting the search team. I'm not too sure why it would be up to the police to get a search team together and not the missing person's family or friends, is all. The police are not our parents, you know. They are kinda just supposed to enforce law, not hold our hands thru tough times in our lives - that's not really necessarily their job, y'know............maybe that why ppl are ranking on them so much - y'all see them as your mommy and daddy? I dunno..................

@WBMA - dude's right, though - I am an asshole. Read my posts on this thread - this whole time I was saying it wasnt a kidnapping. And I was hoping he had just run away and was safe somewhere else dealing with whatever demons had made him run away. Im a COMPLETE ASSHOLE for thinking that, y'know? o_0

@one - oh c'mon - really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rigor_mortis

@PI - ok, I'll bite - what incompetence are you imagining in yr head? I bet you think this boy's death was the only event happened ALL last week in Fairfax City and that the cops had nothing else going on, right?
What's REALLY funny is the same ppl ranking on the cops would be the same ppl LIVID if they called 911 to report something and the dispatcher says "sorry, an officer cannot come to you right now - they are all out searching"...........

If Gordon Blvd ever goes missing, there won't be a search party, there will be a celebration in all of Fairfax.

I think the news said the body was found in a upright position. That doesn't necessarily mean standing, but could mean sitting up against a tree....very possible.

I dunno........

Assuming that you're asking a serious question and not just being your usual blowhard know-it-all self, groups like this can only be assigned on a search by the police or a govt agency, which the police could have easily done with one call.

Your comments about "hand holding through tough times," and seeing the police as "our mommy and daddy" are just flat out stupid, but you're pretty good about making stupid comments.

Yes, a report I read said seated in an upright position. He could of been sitting up leaning against a tree or rocks.

Maybe it was an overdose vs suicide. Maybe he was there with other kids and they panicked and took off because they didn't want their parents to know they did drugs and were skipping school.

Were there other students that were absent on that day the kid knew?

You people need to stop speculating and go back to your reality shows. Its not a difficult case to figure out. The boy parked his car, walked into the woods, and hung himself. The "searchers" who walked by him several times were in no position to make a determination what the manner of death was.

The boy would be just as dead if the entire police department was working on the case.

Move on.
