Letters arrived in the mail today directed at rising 9th graders, including a schedule of spring events at SL. I feel sort of bad for the SL community, most of which have not been as obnoxious as some of the posters on here. It's not their fault that we prefer our original schools. If the RD had been handled correctly, or better yet if the SB had gotten serious about figuring out why people are a

I totally understand why Floris and MI families would be particularly upset by the RD. It splits their schools, which it doesn't do to FM (don't take that as an endorsement!). However, I don't think that Aldrin would be very pleased if they were the affected school either, although moving some of Langley to Herndon and moving Aldrin to SL at least would make more sense. One thing that may get some students from FM and Floris to Oakton is Japanese, which HHS probably doesn't have. I'm not sure we'd be able to guess the pupil placement numbers with any accuracy. Rumor has it that BB expects 1/3 to 1/2 of students (RD rising 9th graders) to request pupil placement. However, BB is (understandably) trying to convince some or most of them to give SL a try. I haven't

"Bruce won't sign off on anything except Herndon. I have heard it from many parents." What happens when Herndon is judged to be at capacity? It seems that pupil placing is a right, not a privilege. Will some students be directed to Herndon HS, and others allowed to Madison, Westfield, or Oakton? That seems unfair because it might depend on when the form was submitted, and that shouldn't be the c

Here's a question for SL people. Regarding people affected bythis or who at some point thought they might be affected by this, people who live outside the previous SL area: does it come across to you that some or most of those people think they care more about their children's education than you do? I think if I were in your shoes and someone said, "I don't want to go to SL because I care abou

"I believe that Ms.Castro did pupil place her children into South Lakes, as did Caroline Hemenway. Of course they have to justify putting their child into South Lakes since nearly all of their neighbors think they are a few bricks shy of a load." I'm pretty sure the oldest Castro child is now in 8th grade. She won't have to pupil place. The really interesting thing would be if a judge allows an

"I am sorry for you I hope you find what you are looking for. Good luck. I hope some day whenever that might be, you find some peace." Why is anyone making some kind of zen thing out of this? Why assume that people who think that RD was not the correct solution to the problem (whatever that problem is, no one seems to have a very clear explanation) are lacking in reasonableness or that they need

"I will make one comment though, if you don't believe that FCPS is as good as it is portrayed, then by extension, its individual schools could not be that great either, so then, why all this energy spent on going to the BEST school. I am not trying to be a smart-ass, I am just sincerely trying to reconcile all this effort that is being expended over something that may not be such a big deal." Re
