Union Mills and Union Mills Station were located within Hemlock Overlook Regional Park and in the areas surrounding Hemlock Overlook Regional Park. They served as significant landmarks before, during, and after the Civil War.

Allegedly there were two Civil War Forts near where Ivakota Farm was located close to Hemlock Overlook and Compton Road. Does anyone have information on that?

It's time to update this thread. It's been a while but there's still more research to be done on this topic.

The thing you are referring to as the sanitarium was actually Ivakota Farm, a women's home from the early 1900s-1940s that was located in the current Balmoral Forest neighborhood. When was this that you saw the burnt down structure near the bridge though?

I don't think it was at that end of Union Mill Road, if you are being serious.

Does anyone know what was up? Supposedly there were tons of police cars on Union Mill Road last night, around the Little Rocky Run neighborhood development in Clifton, VA? Allegedly there were ambulances and fire trucks present as well- no car accident however, and it was said that quite a few officers were outside of their cars as if they were looking for something or someone. There was a Polic

I think it was the Police Officer's funeral procession: http://www.wjla.com/articles/2011/12/michael-boehm-s-funeral-to-be-held-in-burke-70780.html

Did anyone manage to get past the road block and go to the bridge at Midnight, four minutes ago? If so, please share!

Well if that's true, it happened three minutes ago.

Most of that is false. Anyone who has stories about "Bunnyman Bridge" experiences in the past, please share.

Those are exactly the incidents I was talking about! That's the major root of the "bunny man" side of the legend, in my opinion. At least in terms of actual evidence.

These are all false components of the legend, listed in this post. Here's what is known to be true roots of the legend: The Truth Behind the "Insane Asylum" First off there, never has been an insane asylum in Fairfax County. The element of the insane asylum mentioned in the legend derives from two similar institutions that existed in Clifton/Fairfax Station long ago. They are Ivakota Farm (a

Do any Fairfax County residents who have lived in the area a long time know of any homicide or missing person cases that occurred in Clifton of Fairfax Station in the 60s,70s, or 80s? Also is there a database or place where you can efficiently and easily look that information up?

That would be very helpful. I am very curious to see what this alleged asylum site looks like/ it's location as well. The only two alleged institutions in Clifton/ Fairfax Station that had any resemblance to an insane asylum/mental hospital were the Ivakota Farm buildings and the Old Poorhouse off of Colchester Road, both of which are long gone. Any other sites, I am not aware of but would be mo

Mike, Thanks for sharing your stories about Ivakota Farm with us. Like Old School said, it would be great to hear any more in-depth or detailed stories about what the place used to be like. When you said that you remember hearing stories about the Bunny Man when you went there, did you mean before the 1970s? If so, then you just proved something significant. One theory behind the main source of

Thanks, this is some good stuff. And yes I did refer to the old poorhouse in my article about Bunnyman Bridge. I thought it was an interesting connection to the insane asylum mentioned in the legend. I would love to find out more about it... I'm thinking maybe the Fairfax City Library may have some good records of stuff?

I'm looking for info or at least tips about where to find info about the old poorhouse that was once located off of the end area of Colchester road. It existed during the later half of the 19th century, around the same time as the civil war. The site it was located closest to was Sangster's Station, an old, no longer existing railway stop, that was the site of a civil war skirmish.

Historic Clifton has some Civil War ties. Easy to look up online, or in a local library.
