Tells me that Muslim men are still animals and resort to treating their women like this because they cant control themselves.

The difference is western civilization women choose to dress sexy (or not). In muslim countries, there is no choice.

No one forces women to dress in a sexy manner. They do so willingly. Unless you're an underage prostitute with a scary pimp. Then it might not be by choice.

I bet pimps treat their teen-aged whores better than most Muslim men treat their 'wives'

It is two different world views, and both are happy with their lifestyles. Why even say one is more right than the other? That's stupid.

WHAT?

Are you saying muslim women are happy about having to dress in a fucking tent, the inability to drive a car, to never wear red, to be victims of honor killings and stonings for being raped?

Get a fucking clue.

justsayin has the luxury of never having to form an opinion on his own. He simply reads what I write and takes the opposite stance. Hes never even said 'thank you' sheeh.

Dude, the artist of that cartoon is stupid. Some could say that mass media and perceptions of what's hot and what's not in western society force our women to underdress.. But unlike many other places we don't stone women to death for not wearing what their men want them to wear.

On the other hand, I have heard Muslim women say that they feel uncomfortable without their hijab because it's been just another article of clothing their whole lives. They feel exposed without it, like they feel like they're naked and indecently dressed without it.

YOU get a fucking clue. I was commenting on the comic posted, where two women are expressing different viewpoints. The comic does not say the Muslim is unhappy about her circumstance, that she is being raped, or anything you are accusing me of assuming in the comic.

I'll try to dummy it down for you... if the Muslim woman in the cartoon was buried neck-deep in sand getting rocks thrown at her while looking at the other girl and thinking what is in the thought bubble, that is an ENTIRELY different message than the comic has. I'm reading the comic. What are you reading?

I'm saying the majority of muslim women are NOT happy with their lifestyles. Take an anonymous poll in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, etc... and enjoy the results.

Would YOU be happy with that lifestyle if the role were reversed?

You are changing the subject, again I am talking about the quotes in the comic, not the "larger" question you are reading into the post. Show me where in the comic all this you are reading into it. I see two independent women thinking two different things and that's what I answered. If you don't like that interpretation, you can suck it and all of your hyperbole can help choke you while you do it.

I have to agree with justsayin. The comic implies that the scene is occuring in America, not some Middle Eastern country. Women here have a choice to wear a burkha, and some choose to do it. The one woman thinks (because of her beliefs) that the expression of modesty is oppressive, while the other woman (because of her beliefs) thinks the lack of expression of modesty is oppressive.

I'm sure there are a lot of women in the Middle East who resent having to wear the burkha and their lack of social equality, but that's not what this comic is about. It's about two people with different beliefs coming to the same conclusion.

Simply taking an opposing stance to mine does not get you any kudos in my book. I dont mind a good debate but with you its just silly. I cant take your opinion about anything seriously because all you ever do is take the protagonist point of view... and if your view is indeed always the protagonist stance, then you sir are a raging pussy and your opinion should..... get this..... never be taken seriously.

Is it time for a beer yet?

I wasn't commenting on the cartoon. I was commenting on your comment about how both are "happy in their lifestyles".

As for the cartoon, I understand where the author is coming from. I just don't see either perception being accurate.

Neither does the comic say she IS happy, but YOU did. You said both women were happy.

Then, spouting propaganda of cultural relativism, you asked, "Why even say one is more right than another?"

If you are going to be completely full of shit, please do so with with facts.

711 - Muslims invade Spain and Portugal.

1096 - The first crusade was launched to avenge the slaughter of 3000 Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem.

2012 - Idiot trolls parrot bullshit they've been force fed and get it completely wrong.

Without even going into the ridiculous nature of the cartoon, the premise, that women in the West are more oppressed by a male dominated culture, is shown to be a farce by the following facts:

1) In the West, women are not denied any level of education because they're female.
2) In the West, women are not banned from driving vehicles
3) In the West, women are not banned from voting
4) In the West, women are not barred from any job a man can also have
5) In the West, women are not barred from social contact, regardless of the gender of the person they want to associate with.

Ad nauseam.

how did this thread turn into a "my culture is better than yours" thread?

The cartoon was not assigning value to any belief.

Can't we just celebrate the different beliefs held by different cultures?

Compare that with the history of the most violent people on the planet, the Christians!

Christian Violence in History

The horrible truth is that, numerically and statistically speaking, Christian Civilization is the bloodiest and most violent of all civilizations in all of history, and is responsible for hundreds of millions of deaths. Even so, Muslims will never associate this violence and blood bath with the teachings of Jesus (peace be on him).

Saint Augustine’s cognite intrare (“lead them in”—i.e. “force them to convert”). In fact the Qur’an says the exact opposite: There is no compulsion in religion ( 2:256 ). Augustine’s frightening idea that all must be compelled to “conform” to the “true Christian faith” has unleashed centuries of unparalleled bloodshed. Indeed, Christians have suffered more under the rule of Christian civilization than under pre- Christian Roman rule or any other rule in history. Millions were tortured and slaughtered in the name of Christianity during the periods of the Arian, Donatist and Albigensian heresies
The Crusades The European armies were saying, as they slaughtered both Christian and Muslim Arabs: “Kill them all, God will know his own.”
Europe's Reformation and Counter Reformation Era Two thirds of the Christian population of Europe was slaughtered by Christians
The African slave trade Claimed the lives of 10 million
The Colonial Conquests Estimates for the number of Native Americans slaughtered by the Europeans in North, Central and South America run as high as 20 million within three generations.
The 20 th century's Western Civilization took warfare to new extremes A conservative estimate puts the total number of brutal deaths in the 20 th century at more than 250 million. Of these, Muslims are responsible for less than 10 million deaths. Christians, or those coming from Christian backgrounds account for more than 200 million of these! The greatest death totals come from World War I (about 20 million, at least 90 % of which were inflicted by “Christians”) and World War II ( 90 million, at least 50% of which were inflicted by “Christians,” the majority of the rest occurring in the Far East). Given this grim history, it appears that we Europeans must all come to grips with the fact that Islamic civilization has actually been incomparably less brutal than Christian civilization. Did the Holocaust of over 6 million Jews occur out of the background of a Muslim Civilization?
In the 20th century alone

Western and/or Christian powers have been responsible for at least twenty times more deaths than have Muslim powers. In this most brutal of centuries, we created incomparably more civilian casualties than have Muslims in the whole of Islamic history.
In the 20th century, Rawanda, 1994 Witness the slaughter of 900,000 Rwandans in 1994 in a population that was over 90 % Christian
1992-1995 Bosnia The genocide of over 300,000 Muslims and systematic rape of over 100,000 Muslim women by Christian Serbs
Western popular culture It should also be mentioned that although Islam has the concept of legitimate war in self-defense (as does Christianity, and even Buddhism), nowhere in Islamic culture (or in other cultures that survive today) is there latent the idealization, and perhaps idolization, of violence that exists in Western Culture. Westerners think of themselves as peaceful, but in fact the gentleness and sublimity of the New Testament, and the peace-loving nature of the principles of democracy, are scarcely reflected in Western popular culture. Rather, the entire inclination of popular culture— Hollywood movies, Western television, video games, popular music and sports entertainment—is to glorify and inculcate violence. Accordingly, the relative rates of murder (especially random and serial murder) are higher in the Western World (particularly in the U.S., but even in Europe, taken as a whole) than they are in the Islamic world in counties that are not suffering civil wars, and this true despite the much greater wealth of the West.

Truth be with you copy and pasted a piece stolen from the internet, that's been passed off as a Christian confession, which was actually written by a pussy (and bad writer) Muslim in the post-911 days of "we aren't the evil ones, you are".

Surah 9:5

Oh yeah...........blow me, thief of poorly written bullshit.

Just trying to point out that the vast majority of Muslims are good people. They have their radical groups just like we do. To hate all Muslims across the board is just ignorant. We have plenty of ignorance and hate in this country and its so sad.

It's not an apt comparison. Women in the West don't get beaten for not dressing like sluts.

To hate or even dislike all muslims is absurd, but I find it completely rational to hate or dislike Islam. I see the individual muslim as a victim of a diabolical brainwashing system in the same way I see all religious people.
As they say in Christianity, "don't hate the sinner, hate the sin".

The biggest problem with being a muslim is deciding one day that you no longer want to be one. It's nearly impossible to get out once you're in.

Why? For years after 9-11 the entire planet screamed in unison "If you all aren't terrorists...SAY SO!"

The silence that followed from the Muslim community was deafening.

This ignorance is yours, friend. You don't point out how wonderful Muslims are by throwing everyone else under the bus.

"Can't we all just get along while I trash everyone that isn't a Muslim?"

Face it, all religions are horrible.

When someone tells me that they waste time talking to an imaginary friend -- regardless of what kind (Christian, Muslim, Jew, Hindu) -- he loses all credibility in my eyes.

Why would you believe this horseshit? Virgins who bear the son of God in a stable? Burning bushes? A talking snake? (sorry BEH)

At least the Hindus have some creative stories -- You see the god Ganesh all over India, the one with an elephant head. He is the son of Shiva and when he came home to see his wife after 20 years, his son Ganesh didn't recognize him and tried to stop him from entering his mother's house. Shiva said, "Bullshit!" and cut the kid's head off. When his mom came out and saw what Shiva had done, she put an elephant's head on his torso...

At least that is an interesting story.

The Jewish stories from the Old Testament are all about a pissed off God killing people. The Christian New Testament is a discombobulated mess because it was edited so hard by the Constantine to make it into a state religion. Muhammed in Islam really never did shit except unite a bunch of desert nomads. His sole connection to God was that he sat in a cave near Mecca and heard voices. Then one night he flew up to heaven and then to Jerusalem and back. It was during this time he made a pact with the devil supposedly (hence the "Satanic Verses").

All of this is a bunch of fairytales that people are supposed to tell their children to make them eat their vegetables and sit up straight. At least when you lie to them about Santa Claus, you tell them that they will get presents on Christmas if they behave.

How is it that grown adults believe this nonsense? Don't we have schools that teach physics, mathematics, biology, reasoning?

People make such a big deal that the Mormons are a cult because they wear magic underwear and say that Jesus appeared to the American Indians in the 3rd Century A.D. -- and that Joseph Smith found gold tablets in his attic. Seriously, THAT is cultish? That shit is just as believable as all the rest of the nonsense.

Next time someone wants to preach to you about their religion, tell them a made up story about a rock you pray to in your backyard. Go on and on about how much enlightenment it has brought to you -- how much comfort you get from the rock -- how you will pray to the rock to save that person's soul. The more they persist, the more you should get animated about the fire and brimstone that brought the ROCK into existence and how they should repent now.

Christianity has been used to justify The Crusades, The Inquisition, The Holocaust and slavery. It's not the religion that is the issue. It's the people who choose to manipulate it and the people who follow who choose to believe. That goes for Islam, Judaism, Mormonism and any other religion or belief system.

The next time an atheist starts preaching to you, tell him how you chopped up the last one into little pieces and fed him to your dog.

A HIGHLY FICTIONAL VIEW OF HISTORY

The sad truth is regardless of belief or nonbelief, man has been extremely violent to his fellow man. For example, some scholars believe the wars of the Muslim ruler Timur may have resulted in more deaths than the Thirty Years War or World War I. The wars of Genghis Khan supposedly caused more deaths than any war except WW2 (to which the non-European Japanese made a significant contribution). However we've been fairly good at killing off large numbers of people without going to war. Witness for example the death tolls from Stalin and Mao's policies as well as those caused by European colonialism. One of the joys of the industrial revolution is that we can do it on a much larger scale than ever before. If you think your race or religion hasn't caused the same level of mortality as others, chances are either you don't know much about your race or religion, or it just hasn't had the same chance.

That was a good point Bill.
humans have been killing other humans throughout the history of humanity. It is a normal and natural turn of events for us.

An entire thread full of dweebs who've never been out of their own home towns unless the power elite sent them halfway around the world to murder peasants telling us all about people they don't know the first thing about.

Muslims are this. I read one sentence of the Koran and it means ....

Muslims do that. Muslims think this. Yeah right.
Like you know anything about it.

There are a billion muslims chump. What you THINK you know about them is most likely artfully placed propaganda to keep you the elite's junkyard dogs.

Some of you know all about Muslims because you've had a few of them in your gunsights. I bow deeply to your expertise. (sarcasm)

Most of you know nothing about your own history or literature. You're on here telling each other all about what you know nothing of.
