That's pathetic. Robb can't even land a job calling bingo for free, and Mike WISHES he had a college radio job.

Another intern surpasses them.

Congratulations or more accurately, condolences, you have taken the baton of most active listener to C&C from me and others. I listened and completely missed it. I was in a torpor -- one of their worst podcasts -- and that's saying something.

Hey back off! A vacation for these guys is much needed and long overdue. They put in a grueling 2 hours a day (except Thursdays, when they put in 4 hours, holy crap!). Oscar is trying to juggle school and a career as a podcast second/third banana. Mike is exhausted by the daily commute from his toilet to the home studio and cutting-and-pasting Yahoo news. And Rob is completely drained from kissing Steve Bridges' ass as he tries to desperately get on KCJJ airwaves in some shape or form. ("Hey Steve, when can I do Robb Radio again, huh, huh? Hey Steve, will you put another episode of Cake & Cookies on the air again? I don't care what time. Please? Please? I'll pay you, er, I mean, my wife or my mother will pay you!")

Rumor has it that Rob is now pitching a 2015 version of The Wedding Show to Mr. Bridges, ready for prime Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning radio listening. Yes sir, our Rob has come a long way from his intern days, hasn't he?

So let these podcast legends enjoy their time off and allow them to refuel and refresh. We can be certain that they'll be back on July 6, ready to entertain us as only they know how.

But I do fear for Todd Hess this week. Will he be able to make it through the week? For the love of God, please keep him from sharp objects this week!

Sure he does! But yes, I apologize in advance, peekza.

It was an abomination of a show heard on WJFK on Saturdays, hosted by LPS. Not sure of the exact time period, somewhere in the early or mid 90s. And I don't remember if it was one or two hours. No sensible human could listen for more than 2 minutes. LPS would act as a puppet for people pitching their wedding-related services -- flowers, DJs, reception halls, dresses, etc. My recollection is that he would ask one question (e.g. "tell us about your business, please") and the rep of the service would run with it for the next half hour to an hour (or however long the show was). It was not so much a show as it was a commercial for these services. I forget how long it lasted -- 3 months? 6 months? I'm sure LPS was delighted to put it on his resume as an example of hosting his own show. Yep, LPS paid his dues. But look at where that hard work got him. Oh, righhttttt. Nevermind.

I think it was on 9pm on Saturdays. I was a faithful listener and quite enjoyed it.

Also kind of liked Fatt Rob's short-lived Candy Show.

But you're right about The Hideout. Their worst show was better than TMOS's ''best''.

http://thedcam.com/extra/the-hideout/

And of course, Ron and Fez, some of which is available on youtube.

''Best Ofs, I don' listen to 'em. People say you're strung out, I've never been strung out in my life! By the roots! And the freaks who carry your bag up to the room...''

Best of is up to 35 episodes. That represents about 15% of total shows. That is about the amount that is funny and not political, racist, or foor/drink focused; the other 85 % of content in 232 shows.

You're as bad as math as the grad school boy wonder.

Wait, scratch that, 232 is the bonus show count, the real episodes are 1320. Add in the 35 "best" ofs and that's 1355. 35 of 1355 is 2.5%.

I like piling on the shitheads as much as anyone, but their commitment to failure and doing the bare minimum to slide along is really second-to-none.

By the way, what's the point of best ofs? You can just go back find some to re-listen to. Now what might be novel is put bonus shows up for free, ones from last year or something, so it doesn't penalize current subs. Or you could have, ahem, maybe grinded out generic topic shows, convos on funny topics. Over a couple months prior, an extra hour here or there so people would have a reason to tune in. The lack of creativity is staggering. Lazy....
For instance, you could have a real show, whats that, an hour forty? just discussing firework stupidity. Robb could even play YouTube's of people shooting bottle rockets out of their ass. Then you use that on the third of July Friday. No one would know it was canned, really.

Well if Mike and company would stop for two seconds to think about it, what's truly remarkably sad is that it doesn't really matter if an episode is "canned" or not because it's a podcast that people download after it is taped and listen to even later. It's not the live radio. So by nature it always "canned" even when it's done the same day because most listeners listen later, on demand, on their own schedule.

The whole idea of them posting best of, Mike resetting the show mid-interview ("For those of you just tuning in, we are talking with author..."), sticking to time formats, playing intros and outros live, all of it, just remarkably idiotic and out of touch. They're fucking dinosaurs, unable and unwilling to adapt and evolve. Time and technology and culture and industry have passed them by years ago. Sad, really.

For two-three weeks they could not cut a few generic shows instead of this Best Of? Board games? Even though Mike always wins on the last triple digit bonus round or pouts like a baby.

Worst part of "Best of" is that it is "Bo Bo's Best Of". It's all about Bo Bo.

Listening to the TMOS and BOAD networks last weekend was remarkable. TMOS is why we are here. I will leave it at that. Tony's show might replace if it every available. Really good. The rest? Really? I hope Mickey recovers. Pics looked bad.

BOAD. Way better show. Energy. Personalities. RTH is ok just for the train wreck value of Pastry. Straight Talk is their new winner. It ties in with the Mother Ship as does RTH. What a concept? Shows on a network interacting. Not like Bo Bo trying to take over TPS for his own devices. Thank God that ended.

Really, TMOS is lazy. Starts at the top. I am sure it drives Oscar nuts.

BOAD is a passion. It shows.

Yep! I remember turning off D&M 'Best Of's because it was obvious that they let Eightt choose them, and every segment was one featuring - SHOCKER - Eightt.

I really think you have to show up on the Autism scale to be a TMOS fan. The predictable format that never changes. The obsessive focus on irrelevant shit like Elvis. The mindless repetition that passes for humor. It's the only explanation. Comedy for people who don't understand comedy.

Yeah, that used to come up even back in the day. Don would make sure that LPS had a minimal on-air presence, and, somehow, the best-of shows always had plenty o'Rob(b) non-funniness.

One always hears you should do a podcast focusing on something you're passionate about -- there are plenty of niche topics that can generate downloads by the like-minded. So why in the world is Spewak not hosting/producing more podcasts? TMOS has the facility, he's certainly got the time. OK, so he's passionate about Katie, so that accounts for Cake and Cookies. Why not podcasts about Elvis, 50's-60's TV shows, musicals, microphones, tater tot recipes, etc.?

I wouldn't listen, but there are plenty of strange people who would, I assume. He could be TMOS' Chris Hardwick. Cary, I know he's lazier than Mike, but c'mon, he'd be out of the house. He probably spends most of his free time on those topics anyway. Plus, you could look at it as occupational therapy.

The problem is that if LPS tried to have a niche podcast on his alleged areas of expertise -- music and pop culture -- he'd be exposed as a fraud in about twenty minutes, because he really doesn't know that much, and he gets things wrong constantly (and gets all snippy when his errors are pointed out). So he's stuck with his pretend radio show, and his pretend expertise, because LFF doesn't give a rat's ass as long as he fills the time.

Any impression that's punctuated with "I'm Jack CASsidy-!" or because "I'm The Donald it's good" or "dick Queasy" over and over again stinks even before the "Who are you?" s from Eight!

You and your college buddies -- no matter how long it's been -- probably still have in-jokes from the old days, and you can still crack EACH OTHER up with those old jokes.

"Wow, Gwen really likes that pineapple, huh?"

"Don't burn the guac!"

"If it doesn't turn blue, it's not for you!"

The problem is that those jokes are only funny to eight people. Not to anybody who wasn't there at the time those jokes were born.

The failcast is funny ONLY to the guys in the room, and maybe a few of the short bus crowd in the Klub.

What, you don't think you can base a modern podcast audience on a bad Larry King impression and Greaseman references? Or Rob and Laura Petrie jokes?

"Funny" might be too strong a word. I would say that the podcast callbacks, fart sounds, and laugh tracks trigger Pavlovian responses from the window lickers.

No, that's a BOaD tactic...It drove fans away, so it makes sense that they would try it with TMOS as well...the idea is to encourage people to buy their Bogus shows, but all it really does is piss off the 98% that only listen for free

The lack of information stems from the same place that makes Mike lie about taping two shows and change his clothes.

There was a small aside about this a few weeks ago where Mike admitted that it is (as with all of the basic dumb mistakes they make) his inability to get out of the old school radio mindset of "If they know it isn't live they won't listen! And live numbers mean everything!!!"

I don't blame them for putting out "Best Of's" during any vacation weeks, because in podcasting, making sure you keep to the schedule is extremely important. But I really like the idea of putting out old Bonus Shows.

Because a best of means NOTHING when you can potentially have every episode at your fingertips. If they had a pay gate like Maron, I could understand it if some of the best stuff was restricted, but it is yet another instance of them not doing a podcast.

Agree. "Best of" podcasts is a ridiculous concept, and must be yet another example of them bowing to KCJJ.

Did he also mention his second- and third-favorite children are visiting him this week? Can't have him so busy with show prep and an hour nineteen with the boys every morning while they visit. My guess is the girls would still be asleep by the time he was done, but....maybe one or both are sleeping in his studio.
