Phones You've Owned

I paid $600 for this thing when it came out. It seemed awesome at the time, but when they upgraded to the 700 series with no appreciable improvement in capability, I said "fuck this shit."

First phone was a Sony Ericsson T610. Then an iPhone, then the iPhone 3GS, and now an iPhone 4S.

That T610 was a great little phone. Luckily it conked out the day after the first iPhone had a $200 price drop- that was my main reason for getting on the iPhone bandwagon.

You didn't have a cell phone before 2003?

Your first phone was that Sony? When was that, like 2004?

For some reason, I thought you were a little older?

Anyone remember playing Snake when they were a little kid on this gem?? It was like the Fairfax County soccer mom standard issue back in the day...

I thought I got it in 02 but you might be right.

And yup, it was my first phone, I was a hold out, one of the last one of my friends to get a cell phone. I thought carrying one around seemed like a pain in the ass and I kinda liked being able to go places without people being able to reach me. It was nice, I'd go on vacations and not hear a peep from the real world.

Times have certainly changed.

I wish I had kept my family's old phones.. it's quite a nice collection of the history of cell phones, we have had like 20, spanning two decades the oldest one was a Motorola my dad got in like 1991. It still turned on up to a few years ago, but unfortunately I destroyed it for some fun reason or another.

I've also thought it would be cool to have one of the older ones activated again.. but the Verizon people won't do it :-(

One of my first employers required me to use this on special projects/business trips....

...It was heavier than shit and because I wasn't used to having a cell phone, I was prone to leaving it places because it wasn't like I could carry the fucking thing in my pocket.

I have never owned a cell phone in my life as the good people of the county have provided me with one since 1995. We have unlimited data and talk on crappy htc phones now but I cannot complain as it is free for me.

Genevieve, I have heard of the I Phones. How exepensive are they? Are the fees reasonable? I do not know how to use the internet phones but I have a phone now which remains with buttons opened and occasionally a phone number is dialed as it is in my pockets. Thank you.

Do you remember when you rented your phone?? Nobody owned it---the phone company owned them and rented them to you. Then came the breakup of the Bells and all the big changes. The first phone I owned was the "princess" model.

I just remember they were permanently wired to your house. There was no phone jack.

And party lines. The phones were all made by Western Electric. In 1976 my parents house burned. 70% loss. While we were hauling the debris out of the house, the wall phone that was melted into a blob rang. We couldn't answer it but we knew someone was calling.

It's something that has become part of daily life. It is either a help or hindrance based on the model you buy. I guess I could just start another troll thread, since that seems to be what you want.

First cell phone I was issed was a Mitsubishi Diamondtel.
The service was very limited then and as I recall the monthly
fee was $250.00 plus time and distance sensitivity rates.

http://www.ncsx.com/2004/ncs061404/SOTD3/ptc_diamondtel_web.jpg

Can't remember the exact year but I think it was 92. I still
have it here at home as it was quickly obsolete and I didn't
have the heart to toss it in the trash. I also have a couple
of phones that were taken out of elevators when we upgraded
our telephone system from analog to digital. They're marked
by Western Electric has having been made in 1938. The base
is made of wood and the copper wire is wrapped in fiber.
I also have an original wall mounted rotary dial Princess
phone in my kitchen that was in the house when we moved in and
still works fine.

Note to "good times". The pic you posted is an AT&T 2500 Desk Set.
Great phone. Right after the breakup of AT&T you could buy those
for $25.00. Good deal and I still have two that work.

Precisely why I keep land line service and have three phones w/jacks
or hard wired. Also keep a set of battery powered walkie talkies in
my emergency gear. Guess all those years in telcomm rubbed off.
Ever notice how some people seem to think a cell phone call is a
point-to-point connection and not going through a cell or POTS?

I keep a land line separate from my AT&T uverse account in case of emergency. I also agree with phones getting bigger. There are some phones the size of tablets out there I swear.
