Dear Cary,

I understand that the Off-Topic section is generally hands off for you, but when half of this site is hijacked by one or two people with nothing better to do than to post complete shit threads over and over again and contribute absolutely nothing to the forum it makes me just not want to come to FFU anymore. I understand that posters come and posters go. Some are missed (Vince(1)) others are not (***too many to name***) and some just won't go the fuck away (Eli). I know from our Emails that the situation with Eli is beyond your control as it is an ISP thing, but you might want to consider a script that allows obnoxious troll posters to see their own posts and the posts of others, but hides that poster's shit from everybody else. The site I was working for out in Arlington used that and it seemed to keep the retards at bay. Off-topic has always had an array of characters, but they were usually decent posters with something intelligent (or at least entertaining) to say. Nothing in Off-topic fits that description as of late. It is no secret that I enjoy the FFU ignore script, but catching each and every crap troll post is a full-time job and when I update my ever-expanding list of ignored users the less and less I can see. It's just gotten to be too much of a hassle to visit the site and have to wade through all of the shit in order to find a decent thread (Mr. Orgasm Bump threads not included in this list). In closing I would like to request that something be done to put an end to whatever is happening to this site. I don't care what the solution is, I just request one be found. Maybe then WTL would return

So, to prove you wrong (yet again), I cited my source, which was also where I first heard about hellbanning.

There are hellbanning modules for the Django Web framework, and the Simple Machines, vBulletin, and Vanilla forum software, for example.

However, there is not a module for the Phorum software as far as I can tell, which would mean that Cary or someone knowledgeable in PHP and the Phorum software would have to write one.

I think the biggest problem is the amount of time it would take to actively moderate the forum. Too much for one person to handle.

Should make a way for users who have been registered for a certain amount of time to down-vote useless trolling stuff, which will push it down the list faster.. or something like that.

Also one registered name per IP address. I know that people can change their IP easily, but this measure would at least slow some nefarious users down.

There used to be a very popular old forum, that had a lot of unused subforums.

Some guy created this complicated alternative universe on those unused threads, like a whole subculture - a neighborhood with recurring characters - with one or two other posters who happened to stumble on what he was doing. It was actually pretty cool.

Wonder what happened to him.

He posted under the name Eggrert, and was in high school at the time, though he would have graduated by now.
