Getting locked up abroad question

so check it out I am watching that Locked Up Abroad show on Nat Geo. Ya know the one where all those people smuggle drugs and get caught? Alright so pretty much all of them fools get sent to prison. Now what were to happen if somehow they broke out of prison, crossed the border into another country, and somehow got back to the US. Would the US extradite them back over to those countries to serve time even though they are American? Always wondered if the US would hold up their middle finger and tell them to fuck off because most of those countries refuse to extradite their murders and rapist back over here.

It all depends. It would depend on the charge, whether we had an extradition treaty with them, what their prisons are like ect. Some countries wed send them back, others we may just jail ourselves for them, and if its like an Iran or somewhere corrupt wed give them the proverbial middle finger

Not much sympathy from the US consulate if it's a drug charge. I remember the jail scene in Midnight Express.
