This country sucks. My person - and my money - is going to Punta del Este.

I call upon you not just to tolerate, but to enjoy, to savour, the regime that is running roughshod over your affairs. The police 'protect and serve' the interests of the regime, not yours. The military would not hesitate to turn its guns on their kinsmen. Savour their servility to the regime, being faithful pawns and pandering apparatchiks.

Look at this number:

The regime in power has taken a credit card with your name on it and borrowed that much. Among those who pay Federal income tax on a net basis, your share is about $200'000. They have plunged this country into ruin. Millions go hungry so oligarchs may feast. Thanks to the gaping dearth of intelligence in the population, caused by poor diets and most having served 12 year sentences in public schools, this will not change any time soon, for in order to fix a problem, one must identify it.

Uruguay, on the other hand, is relatively free and has a financial house in much better order than the US', and it is by no means the only such country. Where tyranny is a fresh memory, the people are vigilant and keep the local regimes in line. However, in the US, fanatical devotion to the American Civic Region, wherein anything the regime does is sanctified by the unholy spirit of Exceptionalism, prevents any such realisation.

The solution is manifest as the noonday sun - it is never too soon to set into motion expatriation. If you have white skin, your ancestors did it. Therefore, to be unable to emigrate is to be inferior to one's ancestors, and quite frankly, most Americans are. However, to those whose brains do not rattle betwixt their ears, now is the time to make emigration a family tradition.

Bolivian-Canadian; but the difference between a Uruguayan and a Bolivian is about the same as someone from Tajikistan as opposed to someone from Kyrgyzstan. Go figure.

If Uruguay was such a dangerous place, surely the Australian government would have issued a travel advisory? The advisory for Uruguay's more volatile big brother Argentina is the safest possible i.e. 'Exercise normal safety precautions'.

Location is not the issue. The regime that rules the location often is, as it (often adversely) effects the quality of life upon said location's inhabitants.
