a recent clog has brought up some strange inquiries. i was raised with the understanding that one should never flush Q-tips down the toilet because they get stuck. my girlfriend, on the other hand, did not have the same upbringing and flushes them constantly. she said she has always dine this and almost never has a problem. being that my world is now flipped upside down, i wonder what else do people flush down the toilet? so, what things do put down the crapper that are common happenstance for you?

M80s. We did this in school. With a waterproof fuse, you light them, drop and flush. They'd get somewhere downstream, between floors, before going off.
Also, dump a box of macaroni into the bowl. Let it absorb some water then flush. Stuffs up the pipes like concrete as it swells.

It was just really really dirty and it was basically like washing soil & mud down the drain. Had to have a plumber come out and snake the whole line.
Never a good idea to introduce soil/dirt into your pipes.

It was just really really dirty and it was basically like washing soil & mud down the drain. Had to have a plumber come out and snake the whole line.
Never a good idea to introduce soil/dirt into your pipes.

Plumber here.
Most people in their heads think their pipes are clean and smooth, but they are not, especially if you have cast iron. If your pipes are over 10 years old there is a very good chance the main line is cracked and roots are getting in. Roots will catch everything. TP is the only thing (outside of poop) that you should ever flush. Papertowels, dental floss, qtips, ect will get caught in the roots and stop up the pipe and you will be calling me for a $500 clean out.

one time we tried to flush a standing rib roast down the toilet, fully cooked. this thing was so big it made the water overflow and it was nowhere even close to going down. so then we packed it into the toilet hole as hard as we could with a shovel, rammed it in there real good, and then we booked the fuck outta there. lol sure glad I didn't have to be around to clean up that mess.
