Just got a call from Heather
Posted by: Olde Farte ()

She says she's calling me back to discuss refinancing my mortgage.

Strange...must be a senior moment...I don't remember asking anyone about refinancing a mortgage.

Oh.

Wait.

What's THIS?

I get a call from various phone numbers that all show up as ADA on the caller ID. Every day they call, morning and late evening.

I have my number on the Do Not Call List with the FCC. My number is also unlisted and not available through directory assistance. When I do
receive calls like these (which is very rare) I report it to the FCC.

Oh, yeah, I'm on the DNC list, too. Unfortunately, the Caller ID number from these joints often is/was spoofed (*) so, even if you report the infraction to the FCC, you may be reporting the WRONG entity as the bad guy.

========

(*) However, the law may recently have been changed making spoofing Caller ID for nefarious purposes majorly illegal. One of the comments in the link I gave suggests an actual REAL bad-guy entity was on the end of the given number instead of the bad guy spoofing using some innocent third-party's number.

This gets rid of all kinds of flaky calls. I used to get about 10 calls a week from Bank of America about my neighbors, now they don't call at all!!!

Remember the good ol' days when the only people that called your cell phone were people who had your number, or some Mexican dude dialing the wrong number?

I receive automated "commercials" calling me twice a week

yup, now i get texts from some airline that i havent flown on in years saying my card is going to expire and that i need to renew it. or some random shit saying 'my card is expired renew today" i have never had any cards with said affiliates.

i actually called the CB number once and it went straight into some horrible(cheap) TTS recording. they immediately asked me for my name and card number, i hung up. im sure if i would have stayed on the line they would have asked for more information.

I used to get those car warranty sales calls on my cell phone. I think they pick an area code and start dialing from 000-0000 to 999-9999.

See. Another anonymous poster who thinks he has something brilliant to say, but by saying it, proves he is completely ignorant and a liar.

The FCC does not in any way regulate the commerce/illegality of phone calls requesting money or the like. What you are referring to is the the FTC or Federal Trade Commission.

If you actually did contact the FCC with such a complaint, they would have politely told you what I just told you.

I know you feel like a big man and we are supposed to be in awe of you for handling your getting phone calls situation so professionally. But in the future, do not spew lies as some people here are just as stupid as you and would actually contact the FCC or advise friends/coworkers to do so.

A good friend of mine worked for the FCC for over 20 years Radiophile. You can indeed direct ANY complaint about telemarketers to the FCC, they handle those calls daily by the thousands.

Please do not mislead the good people of this forum with your misinformation. You are obviously very grumpy and got up on the wrong side of the bed.
Why the anger?

You can call the FCC here with your complaints- 1-877-915-8336

when 'heather' calls i say things like:

-ooh, this is the dog baby sitter. the person you are looking to speak with is not available, but i'll be seeing him in 5 minutes. he is a busy person and doesn't return calls from individuals he doesn't know personally

-the person you're looking for is out of the country and will be back next week. he'll return your call if you have any message. if you still want to contact him, i can have him call you back. what is this in regards to?

-oh i'm just the gardener. i have not seen him in over 3 months.

whats your best excuse?

i say "listen lady, my wife took a big shit in the toilet an hour ago and clogged it all up. I tried plunging the damn thing but that turd was just too big and it is trapped somewhere down there. I got rubber gloves on up to my elbows trying to claw the thing out and I am covered in shit. So what exactly is it that you want? Or perhaps you know a thing or two about unclogging my toilet. Wanna swap advice?"

The FTC handles complaints about what I said. I was using polite wording earlier, but if it is a scam, the FTC handles it.
