Ah, understood. I knew that Bruce Lee was in the old Green Hornet show, but I really didn't think someone would be stupid enough to say his role on that show trumps the fact that Bruce Lee was a fucking monster.

Bruce Lee was martial artist first, actor second. No doubt, if, IF, some gorilla-like boxer, etc. were able to land a punch, he would probably go down. Trouble is, they'd never be able to land that punch.

Bob Wall, USPK karate champion and Lee's co-star in Enter the Dragon, recalled one encounter that transpired after a film extra kept taunting Lee. The extra yelled that Lee was "a movie star, not a martial artist," that he "wasn't much of a fighter". Lee answered his taunts by asking him to jump down from the wall he was sitting on. Wall described Lee's opponent as "a gang-banger type of guy from Hong Kong," a "damned good martial artist," and observed that he was fast, strong, and bigger than Bruce.

"This kid was good. He was strong and fast, and he was really trying to punch Bruce's brains in. But Bruce just methodically took him apart. Bruce kept moving so well, this kid couldn't touch him...then all of a sudden, Bruce got him and rammed his ass with the wall and swept him up, proceeding to drop him and plant his knee into his opponent's chest, locked his arm out straight, and nailed him in the face repeatedly". — Bob Wall

Alot of Bruce Lee's schtick was the result of fast filming effects. Don't be miss led by fiction and fact. He was good, but he was human (in fact he died relatively young) his impact velocity was not the most tramatic. A boxer, good boxer, reflexes would be on a par with Lees but his impact velocity would be much greater due to superior weight which would equal superior strenght. Being hit by Lee would equal being hit by a 3pound hammer, being hit by a boxer would equal being hit by a twenty pound sledgehammer. I talking about light to heavy weight "good" boxer.

Take a punch from a lightweight boxer and tell me if it feels like a three pound hammer. SPOILER: It won't.

Now consider that Bruce Lee's striking speed was hundredths of a second, and ask yourself if that would feel like a three pound hammer. SPOILER: It definitely won't.

When talking about theoretical matchups between Bruce Lee and heavyweight boxers, you guys make it sound like they're just going to stand there and swap face punches until one guy goes down.

Alot of these UFC/WEC guys come from tough backgrounds, street kids who are hungry for success and through alot of hard work and hard knocks plan to see it become a reality. Bruce Lee came from a life of fluff and privilege things came pretty easy because of his great talent. A hungry UFC/WEC fighter would enjoy hurting Lee and deflating the myth that was Lee.

And Bruce Lee would enjoy dismantling them like every other person who challenged Lee, thinking he wasn't as good as they say.

Tyson vs. Lee that's not even a issue, they are very few sure things in life, Death, Taxes and Tyson would literally kill Bruce Lee in a match, call it a fight cause Lee is no Match for Tyson. NO FUCKING WAY!!!!!

It's been said that alot of Bruce Lee popularity was due to tricks. Trick photography, staged sequences, you know "shadows and fog". In a reality ring, (boxing ring) that stuff doesn't happened.

Yeah right, boxing matches are all reality, nothing staged there.

Boxing in a ring, I might have to go with Tyson. In a street fight with no rules, I'd take Lee.

Let's not forget that Tyson, at the height of his career, got knocked out by Buster Douglas.

EVEN IF MIKE GAVE BRUCE THE FIRST PUNCH AND SAID MAKE IT YOUR HARDEST,
I'M SURE BRUCE WOULD DEPOSIT A LOAD IN HIS DRAWERS WHEN MIKE TYSON JUST
STOOD THERE, SMILING AT BRUCE LEE LIKE SMACKED HIM WITH A FEATHER DUSTER.
WHEN MIKE RETURNED A BLOW, BRUCEY WOULD THINK HE JUST GOT HIT BY A
DUMP TRUCK FULL OF BRICKS.

Look at Lee's biceps in the photo what 13" maybe 14". Then look at Tyson's what 20". And you tell me that Lee's going to come out the better in any fight, I don't care if its in the ring on the streets or on the moon. Tyson going to whip his yellow ass.

THERE IS A REASON SUGAR RAY LEONARD [a small guy himself who knows
fighting talent when he sees it] SAID THAT THE OUTCOME OF THE
BUSTER DOUGLAS TITLE FIGHT WAS "UNBELIEVABLE".

AND I AGREE WITH HIM, BUT :

Which, of course, through hindsight, helps explain why Douglas'
10TH ROUND knockout of the 42-1 favorite Tyson in the Tokyo Dome on
Feb. 11, 1990, was anything but "unbelievable," no matter what
Leonard proclaimed and most observers felt. Indeed, hindsight has
helped turn the Tyson-Douglas fight into the urtext of the inevitable upset:

Mike was distracted; he wasn’t motivated; he was looking past Douglas;
he had abandoned his original trainer, Kevin Rooney, and was no longer
doing the things that had made him invincible; he was working with an
inexperienced corner;

Douglas, meanwhile, was fighting over his head, inspired by the death
of his mother, Lula Pearl, 23 days before the fight.

In a boxing match, of course I'd give the advantage to Tyson. I think Tyson would tire before Lee, but whatever.

In a street fight? Advantage: Lee.

I know Tyson is getting on in age, but you don't think he can beat a corpse that has been wormfood for decades?

All of Bruce Lee's achievements are off the books.

Is there any film or video of him fighting and beating someone in a real fight?

Did he win any martial arts championships? (He won a local boxing tournament when he was living in Hong Kong.)

There's the story of his secret fight vs. the representative of the don't-teach-non-asians-martial-arts contingent, but the result is disputed (lee's story vs. the guy he might have beat's story). Non-public fight. Not recorded on film or video.

20x in less than 10 seconds is not outside the realm of possibility, but how much force would be behind such super-quick punches? Many boxers have extremely fast hands, some with knockout power (Ray Robinson, Duran), some not.

Joe Lewis, a student of Lee's, talks about punching speed, kicking the heavy bag, and other Bruce Lee myths here: http://www.bruceleedivinewind.com/joelewis.html

Bruce Lee kicks vid: http://www.maniacworld.com/bruce-lee-kick.html

Speed demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MObvMKtfL1w&NR=1

Not impressive. YMMV.

There are stories of Lee beating people up, such as recounted on Wikipedia.

There is also judo champion Gene Lebell's story of carrying Lee around like a ragdoll, Lee's threats to kill him notwithstanding. http://www.genelebell.com/stories.html#11

In a street fight, it's not a gimme that Lee would beat a young Roberto Duran or Mike Tyson, both of whom grew up street fighting in a slum/ghetto.

Bruce Lee developed his own martial art because he though the traditional styles weren't good enough for street fighting.

Sam Jackson is definitely an iconic movie tough guy, but more for his ability to use the phrase "motherfucker" as if he were reciting poetry than for his actual ass-kicking ability. Sure he did Pulp Fiction and Shaft, but he's also done lots of movies in which he wasn't so badass. IN any case, Pulp Fiction stands as his "Crowning Moment of Awesome" http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome?from=Main.CrowningMomentOfAwesome

As for Steve McQueen and his famous ass-kicking scene, I don't know how I've never seen this movie. Hell, even Jackie Gleason puts foot to ass in this!
