Do you drink?

I've been drinking since my early teens and now getting into my early 20s, it just doesn't do much for me anymore. I've thought about not drinking but thats pretty much all me and my friends do when we go out. I don't even remember what we did for fun before that... kinda sad huh? They would probably think I'm lame if I stopped so I'm a bit hesitant to do so. Also girls will think you're trying to take advantage of them if they are drunk and you're not. How do you have fun in social situations (house party, bar) without drinking?

My daughter would kill me if I drank - she looks sideways at me if I have a couple beers; I buy beer literally no more than three cans at a time - and that's for two days minimum!

So...no...I don't drink.

Plenty of ways. Ask the folks here, they'll tell you:

Sober is cool.

What is better, drinking and driving and risking another life or being sober. With today's laws is it worth spending time in jail for drinking and driving!!

I always enjoy when we get a new hire that's right out of college. He/she is out getting wasted on weekends, sometimes on a Thursday night or on a Sunday. As we chit chat at lunch or whatever telling weekend stories, I'll drop this knowledge on them:

"I was like you once. I'd bet good money that right around 26, you'll suddenly notice that you just can't do it anymore or don't want to do it anymore. There are numerous causes - you can't deal with work while being hungover, you buy your own place that requires a lot of your weekend time, you get married, have a kid, or whatever. The progress from 'let's get hammered' to 'Nah, I've got too much to do tomorrow' is so subtle that you don't notice until it's complete."

They always doubt me. So far, I'm batting .1000 (4 for 4)

I thought it looked like he asked what is best in life.

Conan the wise says, "Crush our enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women."

So, you're saying that you drink a lot, but you're no longer having fun when you drink? Are you not having fun because of your tolerance? or perhaps you are bored with the same ol'...?

You'd like to try doing new things, but all your friends like to do is drink... You don't want to suggest trying new things to them, because you're afraid you'll get made fun of?

It sounds like you've out-grown your friends... It happens all the time... Just go find some new ones... or do what I did; leave your old friends and don't bother getting any new ones...

I have several hundred friends in my mind... What good are "real" friends anyway?

On the weekends I would usually have 8-10 beers with my friends but now a 6-pack gives me a hangover. Then the whole next day will be wasted recovering from the previous night. I also hate that feeling where you wake up not remembering shit and hoping you didn't do some dumb shit that you'll regret. I don't want to get new friends, I want them to just accept that I don't want to drink. They're like "hey dude, your too good to drink with us now?"

I went through the same thing back in my wild and crazy days... Do you guys do anything other than drink? You may realize you don't have a whole lot in common...

You'll probably still keep in touch with some of them... but it's natural to move on to new things...

Don't think of it as a finality... They're always a phone call away... unless one of them dies...
