Quitting smoking pot
Posted by: QQ ()
Date: January 11, 2011 03:14PM

Hi all,

I'm a successful young adult who has been smoking cannabis every day for the past year and a half or so...and I would like to stop. It makes it especially difficult as all of my friends smoke, and smoking doesn't seem to hinder my life in any way (good job, good grades, no trouble...) Any advice?

When I read letters like this I turn to my wife and say, "Honey, I think everrything is going to be alright". Just keep doing what your doing, don't worry too much about the pot.

It'S a WELL THAT THEY ARE COLLECTING MONEY FOR FOR LAZY AFRICANS
THAT WON'T DIG WELLS FOR WATER, BUT CONTINUE TO PROCREATE OR MAYBE
THEY ARE JUST TOO LAZY TO LICK THE MORNING DEW OFF OF LEAVES.
ANY WAYS, THEY ARE DIGGING THIS WELL DOWN IN AFRICA RIGHT NOW AND
THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE GPS LOCATION AND SCRIBBLE YOUR NAME ON A PLACARD
IF YOU FUND AN ENTIRE WELL. OH AND ONCE A YEAR YOU WILL GET A
CHRISTMAS CARD FROM THE WELL AND A PICTURE OF YOUR WELL SO YOU
CAN WATCH AS IT GROWS UP.

whats the big deal? your problem Isn't marijuana, it's self control.
you don't want to smoke, just stop, there is no withdrawel.
if your friends can't accept this, they're not your friends.

I would read up on smoking before you give anymore advice on it. Marijuana is just as addictive as any other drug. Of course there will be withdrawals from it. I do agree about the friends, though.

If you're working I would advice you to slowly reduce your use of it. There's many symptoms of marijuana withdrawal. Just Google it. You'll find all the info you need.

I gave up daily pot cold turkey - just stopped buying it, ran out, stopped.

No withdrawal symptoms.

Um, pot is totally nonaddictive. Just give what pot you have away and dont by more. Tell your friends you need to read a book for a week and next time you see them you can just get a contact high. Jeez this is a no brainer. Its not like its, sugar, ETOH, nicotine or McDonalds. Its just a weed and very easy to stop.

That's good for you, Exhead, but just because you didn't go through any withdrawal symptoms doesn't mean another person won't. I actually speak for experiece myself. I was being lazy and didn't feel like looking up any sources; here goes a page though: http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/marijuana-use-and-its-effects AND http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/news/20080507/withdrawal-symptoms-from-smoking-pot

Lollerpuffer, you might want to do some reading too. I provided 2 pages. Ill be happy to provide more for you. There's MANY more sources.

I don't need to read up on it, douche4life, I've been smoking it for 40 years. And I have stopped at various times , for up to 6 weeks. Never had a problem with withdrawal.
Marijuana is just as addictive as any drug? Really? Herion too?
God , you're stupid.

the withdrawal symptoms would be similar to a regular coffee drinker missing their morning cup. irritability, boredom, anxiety. you probably wont be able to get a full nights sleep for a week or so if you really smoke a lot.

+100

In high school I smoked a lot for 1.5 years then quit for a year, smoked for two years quit for 15 years, smoked for 3 years and over the past 10 years I smoke exactly 2 times per year (golf outing). I have never, never had trouble just stopping.

That said I think it can be a social experience, and, lets face it stoners are not very interesting to be with unless you yourself are high - so you need some new friends and activities. Exercise has a high very similar to pot for me - try that!!!

The only people more boring that those that are always high are those that have never, ever smoked - lamb4life this means you. You think you know how evil pot is but you dont have a clue as to what you are talking about.

Turns out pot is about as addictive as coffee (http://www.procon.org/view.background-resource.php?resourceID=001492). Are you terrified of Starbucks and Mountain Dew? No, you are not. Would you go on a self-righteous rant about the evils of Diet Coke and Oolong - why no, no you wouldn't (Mormons dont takde 'strong drink' but even they dont lecture other people on it).

Truth is you just dont know what the hell you are talking about...

Just man the fuck up and quit. Go to the gym or something. When your friends are chilling on a week night smoking and watching a movie, drink a beer. If you're so insecure that you can't "enjoy life" without being high then you should just kill yourself now.
