Supposedly, it's just got to hold until August when a relief well will be finished being drilled. That's a long time.

What a fucking diaster.

They are talking about capping it with cement. Hopefully it holds.

Yeah, it's been a fucking disaster. Not one of Obama's finer hours, for sure.

Now Obama's scheming minions can begin the process of figuring out how to blame this on Bush or something they inherited from Bush.

It took destruction of Carville's home state to bring out his wrath against the demokratik messiah, I guess they won't be talking so much about Bush's "lack" of Katrina support given Obama's trip-taking and non-participation in the Gulf Oil Spill of 2010.

I guess the Dems will just have to run ads in October and November featuring Palin chanting "Drill, Baby, Drill" with photos of pelicans covered in oil.

Yeah. It looks like the camera is pointed at something arbitrary and the image keeps looping. That's not good.

Im sure the reason for the camera FAIL is something simple and pro-business, like.."we dont want anyone to be able to deconstruct our proprietary mud mix for top kills".

Yeah, thats gotta be it. "rolling eyes"

It's very easy to blame Republicans..the great communicator sold us a bill of goods which said industry has it's own vested interests to provide safe food...drugs...energy. Govt inspectors..govt regulations supposedly just got in the way of an efficient market place. The great communicator couldnt have been more wrong.

...news photographers are complaining that their efforts to document the slow-motion disaster in the Gulf of Mexico are being thwarted by local and federal officials—working with BP—who are blocking access to the sites where the effects of the spill are most visible.

An Obama cover up, it figures.

The going theory at the moment is NG ruptured the seal and leaked into the control spaces up above where there were open ignition sources. Some of the preliminary blame seems to be that BP officials on scene may have directed that the cement seal be done in a way that was deemed the more risky (but less expensive) way to put in the well cap, and that it failed.

What I dont understand is the gift giving to government regualtors by the oil companies. Am I missing something or is this totally corrupt? I have heard it mentioned numerous times but no attachment of an investigation into this practice.

I dont care if it was Bush, Obama, Clinton or Herbert Hoover that is wrong on so many levels.

Thanks. It never pays to do things on the cheap. You'd think we'd have learned it by now.

All I know is that if this top kill thing holds - they have got to get this shit cleaned up before the hurricanes gear up and push it all inland. Which is no small task, I know.

Idiot, it's true that Obama doesn't take money directly from oil companies, but then, no presidential, House or Senate candidate does. They can't: Corporations have been prohibited from contributing directly to federal candidates since the Tillman Act became law in 1907.

Obama has, however, accepted more than $213,000 in contributions from individuals who work for, or whose spouses work for, companies in the oil and gas industry, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. That's not as much as Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has received more than $306,000 in donations from people tied to the industry, but it's still a substantial amount.

Here was an interesting little note down in the middle of the story with little explanation.

Quote

...
Also Thursday, a White House official said the director of the federal agency charged with overseeing offshore drilling had been forced out of her job in the wake of the disaster. Elizabeth Birnbaum resigned "effective immediately" from the U.S. Minerals Management Service, the Interior Department agency that has been faulted for lax oversight in the wake of the mammoth spill. Birnbaum had been slated to testify on Capitol Hill on Thursday.
...

"had been slated..."?? So does that mean she didn't? And if not, why? Scapegoat? It seems like she should still testify - since she seems to be the one that would be in the middle of knowing who did what inspection, and why the platform recently received safety awards.

Ah, here we go. Obama "doesn't know" if she left voluntarily or not. LOL

Birnbaum forced out of MMS
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/37863.html
Quote

The head of the Minerals Management Services has left the top post at the agency that oversees offshore oil drilling – the first personnel shake-up to result from the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

But at his news conference Thursday, President Barack Obama said he didn’t know exactly how or why Liz Birnbaum departed, or whether she was fired. “I don’t yet know the circumstances,” he said.

The decision reportedly was a voluntary move by Birnbaum, who has been the director of MMS since July 2009. It also comes at a time when the White House has felt increased pressure over its response to the oil spill.

Birnbaum was scheduled to testify Thursday alongside Interior Secretary Ken Salazar before a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. But she was not present as Salazar began speaking, and her written, prepared remarks will not be distributed to the public, as is customary.

Salazar told the subcommittee that Birnbaum resigned today of her own volition and called her “good public servant.”

“She did it on her own terms and her own volition," said Salazar, who appeared to receive the news as he was being questioned by lawmakers. “She is a strong and very effective person who ... helped us address a very broken system.”

Right up there with Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security. "The system worked... Well, except the guy was on the no fly list, one way ticket, no luggage, his parents had contacted the embassy that he was dangerous, and thank God one passenger took matters into his own hands.

It's funny how now Obama is claiming that he is the responsible one, and that the White House has been the entity in charge of the entire response (As well as all of the leak capping methods over the past Month). Wouldn't it be ironic if, after having taken a really convenient stance, that the plugging failed? He waited to hold the press conference until the plugging was appearing to work, what a dunce.

Register Voter you must be use to working in Burger King. Major company officials or company employees are never "fired." It is proper to say "The employee had a difference of opinion etc..."

A President never says he fired someone. That's a political protocol.

Obama answered this question in the press conference. If you watched his mannerism it was pretty clear that she was fired, he just didn't want to say it.

The reporter then said "She was fired" in a stern voice. Obama smiled and didn't say anything but his actions indicated that was the case.

And you have no problem with the convenience of the timing that she then does not testify in an open hearing. Instead her written comments are submitted to the committee and not released to the public. Yeah, funny how that worked. This was the person in charge of that area since July 2009. And also interesting that the first reaction/response of the administration was to announce a restructuring of the department - as a matter of fact that seemed to be more important to them then actually dealing with the actual leak.

Sorry, you FAIL, yet again Lopter.

The article proves exactly what I said. That Obama or any President would not step up to a microphone and say "I fired X." He'll let the grapevine do that for him.
