Lack of Self-Awareness

So, this morning, I happened to notice in a span of about 3 hours just how much people are missing that important characteristic to a better life for the people who have to live among their presence. I'm talking about "self-awareness."

In chronological order, I witnessed:

(1) A woman in a meeting this morning who did not notice that she had an unclipped nose hair about 2 inches long coming out of her left nostril. CUT. THAT. SHIT. PLEASE.

(2) A fellow urinal-mate in the men's room, while standing next to me taking a piss, ripped the most disgusting, wet, whistling fart. SON OF A BITCH. COULD YOU AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL YOU MADE IT TO THE SINK?!?

(3) A newly hired secretary, who you would think would care about their good standing in a brand new environment, grabs the last cup of coffee at the coffee bar and does not make a fresh pot. YOU PEAR-SHAPED HUSSY!

The day is only half-over and I could really use a scotch.

I've got a co-worker who chews with her mouth open and constantly talks to herself. She eats at her desk all the time, breakfast, lunch, snacks. Between meals she chomps on gum. It baffles me that she doesn't notice everyone within hearing range glaring at her. She carries on conversations with herself like no one else is around too.

I can hear her smacking that damn gum right now.

I think the sight of any person eating is really quite revolting. Maybe I pay too much attention to small things...but if you ever just watch a person eat, you'll see what I mean.

Basically, I think of eating as shitting in reverse. Would you want to get into a big room with everyone, gather 'round a big table, drop your drawers and shit together? NO! We do have restrooms, but it's not a communal experience. If I were president of the world, eating would be no different.

Human beings are dirty, filthy animals.

Yes, I am quite annoyed at the person who eats and makes audible chewing noises, like "hmmmmm" or "schlurp" or "NOM-NOM-NOM-NOM-NOM."

Also, "WAKA-WAKA-WAKA-WAKA" is high on that list.

People that talk to themselves in cubes near mine are the worse.

Yes, that reminds me. The air headed women with the fake cheerfulness and skin crawling enthusiasm whose natural habitat is the office.

I think the closest character in Office Space was the one that said "Uh oh, someone has a case of the Mondays."

Your remarks bring to mind the Nacirema. Have you ever read about them?
They're quite fascinating.

Here's a link to an article, "Body Ritual among the Nacirema," about the
strange magical beliefs and "attitudes about the body" among the Nacirema:

I'm currently listening to a woman listen to an iPod, 10 feet away. I can hear every word of Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman". After a while, she'll probably switch back to Celine Dion. What a relief.
