Let me preface: I don't know anything about Chris Matthews outside of this clip and the first paragraph of his Wikipedia entry.
I didn't think it was that offensive. It sounded like he was speaking in the context of race relations, and tried (poorly) to iterate that people didn't see him as a black president, but just as a president. We were truly colorblind for a night, or something like that.
He was born in 1945, and was probably old enough to remember theNegro black African-American black struggle for equality. In that context, it doesn't sound that insulting.
But then again, I don't know anything about this guy.

That's funny...I watched the State of The Union, and I didn't once think "Wow, that's a black man in front of a bunch of white people". I was too busy thinking...."Wow, what a bunch of bullshit"
Like where Obama said he wanted congress move forward with earmark legislation, including putting all the earmarks online ("Tonight, I'm calling on Congress to publish all earmark requests on a single Web site before there's a vote, so that the American people can see how their money is being spent")
Haven't you already used that one before Barack? Like you and your Democrat buddies were going to put all the pending bills on-line for Americans to review. Didn't happen.
I'll give him this: It takes a lot of balls to get up there in front of millions of people and promise to do something that's exactly like the promise you just failed to deliver on. Shame on us if we believe any of it.
And how he's going to 'freeze government spending' but not start that until after the mid-term elections. What do you want to bet that that freeze never happens? The promise of that will live just long enough to get the democrats through their mid terms ("Oh, we're going to freeze spending next year and get this deficit under control!"), then it will quickly be forgotten.
