Catholic Church Can F Itself
Posted by: Vince(1) ()
Date: November 14, 2009 11:09AM

Now that the alliance of the Religious Right and the Catholic Church have effectively taken over the Commonwealth of VA their arrogance is now threatening DC. Despite having won exemptions for having to perform or even rent out their publically available facilities to celebrate same sex marriages, the DC diocesis is threatening to withdraw from DC all together if they are not allowed to discriminate against gays in non-church/religious activities. It is the same arrogance that Congress shows when they exempt themselves from laws they pass. Well..I say fuck-em..let em walk to wherever they want to practice their hate filled religion. I guess only their pedophile priests are entitled to the church's graces.

The attached article defends the church and puts the issue on the back of DC governemnt. The implication is that DC should be more like Utah that caters to their religious master...the Church of later Day Saints. I say let em walk.

I feel sorry for Vince sometimes. Not only does he defend the illegals all day despite their grifting and murderous activities in our County, and rail against homosexuals and pretty much every OTHER group. He has to also conflict with himself and attack the Catholic Church, that in-between feeding homeless in DC and getting money to disaster-ridden areas of the world has something to say about its values AND is the religion of many of the hispanics he tries to defend.

Maybe one day his head will explode with all of the conflicting hate in there and then these inane posts will end.

Yes, he always reads the articles too doesn't he? LOL. This was bit here is from the arguments put forth by the ACLU and others on why this is a BAD change:
Quote

...
The committee rejected concerns raised in testimony by the ACLU, the Archdiocese of Washington, the InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington and a group of nationally-recognized legal scholars, including Robin Fretwell Wilson, professor at Washington & Lee University Law School. In calling for broader religious liberty protections in the bill, the experts cited well established United States Supreme Court case law under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), a federal law that applies to the District of Columbia.

Under the bill, religious organizations do not have to participate in the “solemnization or celebration” of a same-sex marriage ceremony. An earlier version of the bill also exempted them from “the promotion of marriage that is in violation of the entity’s religious beliefs.” The revised language significantly narrows that exemption to the “promotion of marriage through religious programs, counseling, courses, or retreats.”
...

Of course, let's not look past the fact that the Council just decided to pass this change without any significant input from the folks they are supposed to represent. Contrary to popular belief, most of the black population does NOT support gay marriage - as shown in recent results in other states (DC has a pretty significant black population). This is just another one of these "feel good" changes that sounds good, but will set the City up for endless lawsuits. Sounds like a good way to spend taxpayer money - defending an unpopular law.

Brilliant. Always good to take an issue that in reality has little to do with the Catholic Church, and make it all about them. Good misdirection.

In what way? What part are you agreeing with? That the Catholic Church is trying to dictate to the DC Government? They aren't. The Constitution and other well founded legal principles do. It has nothing to do with them, other then they are a religion represented in the City. Vince on the other hand, made it an argument about the Church - and it isn't.

vince, the question you should be asking is why does the Catholic church have to support them in the first place?

The only reason D.C. is even pursuing Homo Love in the first place, is because they have two Queers on the City Council (Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), and David Catania (I-At Large) ).

I heard both sides of this story yesterday on NPR and it was clear that DC is not going to budge on this issue. The council claim they won't be threatened by the diocese and it's in their (catholics) best interest to keep running the charities in DC even if the bill is passed.

The rep for the Catholics claimed they're fighting for their religious freedoms, but I'm not sure what freedom the bill would take from them. No one is taking anything from the catholics that I can see.

The bottom line is that gay marriage is going to happen, whether people like it or not. The clergy are just prolonging the agony and making themselves look archaic and fuddy duddyish.

Besides, I would have thought the Catholics would be all over the homo love thing, since they have so much experience in it.

Religion should not be used as a basis to discriminate against homosexuals. The bill already exempts them from having to perform the cermeon...exempts themn from even renting their facilities to people celebrating their homosexual marriage. So what we are talking about are non-religious services...the hiring of people for non-religious positions...jobs they would be barred from discriminating based upon religion..race...gender...and one more, sexual orientation. It would also protect a homosexual frombeing fired merely for sexual orientation.

As far as the majority of black people not supporting gay marriage...that also should be besides the point. Equal protection under the law is not something that the majority should be able to vote away from a minority.
It's time for the hate to stop.

bash vince all you want, but please dont defend the catholic church. They are epic douches. They knowingly harbored and protected child molesters (its been well documented) in order to save face. They have also been taking money from sheep everywhere for the past few hundred years. If the catholic church wants to exclude gays or other lifestyles they dont agree with in a church held event, then fine. But if its a public event, and theyre getting tax exempt status, then fuck them, they need to play by our rules.

Uh yea this is true, but if they have tax exempt status as a religious organization then they should not have the right to exclude people in a public event.

I'm with Vince. Fuck the Catholic church. It's been responsible, over the centuries, for the most vile, inhuman, maniacal acts ever perpetrated by any single institution in recorded history. Fuck the Pope. He's a senile, ex-Nazi dick in a stupid hat.

Louis CK's take on the Catholic church is right on--it's an organization dedicated solely to the molestation of young boys:

My understanding of religion is, that it is NOT beholden to politicians. Especially not in the US. But speaking of DC, who are they planning to have fill this void they are going to create? ACORN? I just find the whole situation laughable.

You arent talking about the Roman Catholic Church if you are looking for an unbeholding church. Even in Communist China their selection of Bishops needs approval by the Central Communist Government...the church would sell it's soul for the growth opportuntity that China represents.

And maybe one day, that belief will lead to a change in how their government functions. The fact that the Communists have a say in their selection of Bishops there is obviously something they have to live with in order to even function there. You should be as upset with Google and other American businesses that operate there and act in violation of US laws every time they kowtow to the Chinese government.

this is true, EXCEPT we give them tax exempt status. And if they have a public event that discriminates in any way, then their tax exempt status should be taken away. In that case , they can do whatever the fuck they want.

Oh what a better world it would be if the Roman Catholic Church partners with any state government. And the partnerships between the Chinese and Google (and others) should be criminal.

just to clarify, im indifferent to the resulting outcome of their efforts. however, i think it's funny that entire industries push their agenda as hard as possible all the time and people arent really upset but as soon as religious group pushes their agenda it's suddenly the most evil thing ever.

your outrage is merely a product of your own agendas and amplified by person feelings which have little to do with logic. it's not like they are banning abortion, they are attempting to prevent abortions from being government funded, funds that come from the american people. some people dont want american tax dollars going towards funding wars, they dont want american tax dollars going towards funding abortions.

try to be logical about this.

this would an attempt at controlling religious doctrine which completely defies the of separation of church and state. im sure you wouldnt be so eager to do this if it was a two way road.

Logical? Hmmmm....

1. The Catholic Church and the Religious Right and the Republican will end...stop....as in make illegal abotions...some methods of birth control...the very second they can. Until then they will intimidate...justify the murder...
of people that disagree with them. Those are the only logical conclusions a reasonable person can come to....given the facts.

2. Funding..you trivialize the issue, comparing it to some peoples desires to not fund wars. But here's the thing...they do fund wars...there are very few "opt out" options in the world of taxes. So..what logic can be used to justify picking one issue and saying it cannot be funded by taxes..when every other issue can? You really dont understand the amendment that is in the house bill now...it not only stops tax dollars from paying for abortions...but if a person accepts/participates in any of the private insurance policies offered under the eventual govt. plan...they cannot even use their own money to pay for an abortion.

It's the hatemongering Relgious Left that are the real danger. Those whacked out fundie nuts like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Joe Lieberman, whose religouis intolerance is the essence of pure hate can been seen all over the left. As for abortion, it's just liberal mommies slaughtering their liberal kids; whats not to like?

Hey Vince, you can go F yourself.

Health Care Reform Hinges on House Abortion Vote
Stupak amendment blocks private insurers offering procedure
http://www.newser.com/story/73534/health-care-reform-hinges-on-house-abortion-vote.html
Quote

In a last-ditch effort to corral 40 anti-abortion party members whose votes are needed to pass health care reform, Democrats last night agreed to let the whole House vote today on an amendment that would bar insurers participating in the new government-run health care exchange from providing abortions except in the case of rape, incest or to protect the mother's health. It would also prevent people who receive federal subsidies from buying private insurance that covers abortion.
...

They can't buy insurance. They can certainly pay for the abortion if they have the money.

i havent conversed with you about this specific issue and if you think i post under some other alias then you are mistaken.

i would simply like you to post your reference. i'm thinking for myself by actually looking up the information directly instead of taking someone else's word for it. you have stated you want people to think for themselves, which is what i'm doing.

It is ridiculous to believe that a person who needs a federal subsidy to buy insurance will be able to afford to pay the full cost of another insurance policy that does cover abortions, never mind to pay for the abortion itself. Not allowing a person to buy insurance in effect stops all but the very rich from obtaining a safe abortion...they are in effect forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy. I am sure attempts will be made to close this tiny loop hole...it certainly is consistent with the intent of the proposed amendment...which is to not allow federal money to be comingled with money that will then allow a person to pay for the insurance or the procedure itself.

you have to take a mortgage out on your house to get $500. bring the pregnancy to term is a free alternative to abortion because you can always give the child up for adoption. abortion is an option, not a birthright. (see what i did there?) xD

Vince,

As long as idiots like you want the government to bail people out everytime they do something stupid they will never learn to care for themselves or learn from their mistakes.

Examples: People buying 500k homes on 50k a year salary, people having ten kids making 50k a year or no job at all, people sneaking into the U S then whining when the U S has the nerve to ask them to come in the right way.

The woman makes the mistake when she spreads her legs and allows her "man" to come in without a condom. There are way too many "convenience" abortions for that to just be just an "oopsie" kind of mistake. If they can't afford to take care of, or want a child, maybe they should think about exactly where the "mistake" is in the process.

no, people can do as they please, the outcome rests on societies rules. if they wish to have an abortion, they can have an abortion. i simply dont think the government should be giving out handouts for irresponsible behavior.

pregnancies aside, there are plenty of mistakes people make that are met with severe consequences in forms of punishment from the justice system.

if it is a risky pregnancy or somehow endangers to woman, i have no problem with the abortion being paid for by the government. aside from that, it has little to do with health.

no, while some people shouldnt (have many), they are perfectly free to have as many or as few children as they like. what i am saying is that the government should not be enabling them or disabling people from having abortions. if people want an abortion, they can pay for an abortion, that's not any different than how it is today. also, there are many more people that have problems that are not self-inflicted and are not getting the help they need.

vince, i dont know why you are so angry, i am not looking to ban abortions. the issue of abortion is not even on my radar.

+1 Exactly. But if you even argue against funding issues somehow you are trying to ban abortions. Vince on the other hand sees a conspiracy behind every corner and somehow that means HIS reproductive rights will be taken away from HIM. Although in reality, we probably should work to make sure Vince doesn't reproduce anymore than is necessary....

Yeah, I hear lots of republicans think marijuana should be legalized. Remind me to go drum up some more of their talking points so I can refute you some more. Oh - oops, I don't have any.

Vince - I am not religious (I don't attend church, nor do I believe in everything the Bible teaches), and I am a conservative - not a Republican. I may vote that way because I have no other choice, but in good conscience I cannot support the liberal, socialist agenda.
