Join up Vince - I hear that government retirees become honorary officers and get to keep all their government benefits if they sign up now. Besides, that would get you off the list of folks "soon to have their retirement benefits reduced" as wards of the government.

Do you know why we can't support such numbers anymore? Thank Clinton. If we still could afford to deploy 500,000 Combat personnel, we would've already been finished with our job in Iraq and Afghanistan years ago. With 500,000 personnel in Desert Storm, it only took us 100 Hours in our Ground Offensive to completely crush Saddam's Military Forces.

In WWII, it took us Four Years and 16 Million Personnel to liberate Europe, the Philippines, and the entire Central Pacific.

LOL, yeah now it's all Clinton's fault. Rumsfeld had no say in that other side of your misinformed analogy.

Rumsfeld didn't initiate the deployment of enough ground forces in the opening push of OIF, but he's not responsible for the Military downsizing. Clinton downsized our Intelligence and Military capabilities at an alarming rate, because his policy instead dictated the use of Missile Strikes (Which is akin to nothing more than shooting a lion with a .22, in other words, it just pisses off whomever/whatever you're attempting to destroy).

Actually..it was a lot more troops.

Creating a coalition
Although they did not contribute any forces, Japan and Germany made financial contributions totaling $10 billion and $6.6 billion respectively. US troops represented 73% of the coalition’s 956,600 troops in Iraq.

I never said any such thing Vince. Obama is the one dithering on this issue now - and yet his early rhetoric was that Afghanistan was an important war, and one that we would win. Now he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. At some point he needs to either shit or get off the pot, eh? But in either case, he will have to live by whichever decision he finally makes - hopefully we won't lose too many more of our soldiers while he makes up his mind.

The announcement on how many more troops will be sent to Afghanistan is being held until Obama accepts his Nobel Peace Prize. But many have been told they are going and are making preparations.

The implication that we are loosing soldiers due to his waiting to make a decision is good press but false. Increasing troop levels and activity will probably result in more loss of life...it could be said that waiting to make a deciision is actually sving American lives. Describing his deliberate consideration of the fatcs and policy options is political rhetoric which does in fact show you favor the increased troop levels..stop lying...stop pretending as if you are some sort of Fox "news' pundit.

Afghanistan is 250,000 square miles with deserts and mountains. There is also the porous borders with Pakistan. Adding 40,000 troops to an area this size is a drop in the bucket. What obama needs to do is either give the troops the support they ask for or pull them out altogether. Taking four months to make up his mind is crazy. Our troops deserve better.

Before you give me the usual "Well Bush started it" save your post. Obama knew what he was getting into when he ran for president. Playing the blame game while our troops get picked off benefits no one.

The implication is reality.

Obama is the one who, back in March announced he was going to send over his hand-picked general to assess the situation and come up with a plan. He was the one who made Afghanistan a priority. Now he is sitting on it, and dithering about it. He has used a variety of lame excuses to delay the decision. And yes Vince, they are losing lives while he leaves them in limbo as to what direction they are going to take. If they don't have enough troops to aggressively take the fight to the Taliban, then they are essentially a bunch of bodies with targets on their backs. At least in this case they can fire their weapons in defense, but in the meantime they are just tally points for some Taliban folks to wrack up when they set off their next IED.

But then again Vince, reality doesn't really mean much to you.

At least there were 500,000 troops who weren't running away from military service.

Has Vince answered how he came to the conclusion about 500k?

I mean, geographically and politically speaking, I can see Afghanistan needing 500k troops to win the war, but not what we did in Kuwait.

I guarantee you he was one of those feds that thought coming up with new rules and procedures for minutia was "leaving his mark," and got promoted because his supervisor wanted him to be someone else's problem for a while.

I see you have experience with government employees! I knew too many GS employees that thought doing their job meant being anal retentive and quite a few people were promoted because their supervisors didn't want to go through the year long process of terminating them.

A guy goes to the OPM to apply for a job.

The interviewer: “Have you been in the military?”

The guy: “Yes, I was in the Army for 3 years.”

The interviewer: “That will give you extra points toward employment” and then asks, “Are you disabled in any way?”

The guy: “Yes, 100%. A mortar round exploded near me and blew my testicles off.”

The interviewer: “OK, I can hire you right now. The hours are from 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM. You can start tomorrow. Come in at 10:00 AM”

The guy: “If the hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Then why do you want me to come in at 10:00 AM?”

The interviewer: This is a government job. “For the first two hours we stand around scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that.”

Typical Vince. Run and hide. Tell you what though. Next time you are playing

Notice they come in yellow too. Just your style. I'm sure you would prefer
lavender but those will have to be custom made in Gtwn.

Basically, we should have NEVER downsized our Military in the first place. We have to face reality though, and we have to work with what we currently have. Therefore, we have to shift strategies, and work local alliances. You also forget, that during ODS, we didn't have armed drones (ie, Predators), we didn't have Stealth Bombers that could initiate a precision strike from 60 + miles out (They had to be directly overhead), we didn't have half as many laser-guided munition types (Which can give small units the power of a much larger force), and we most certainly didn't have a sizeable population of locals who now-a-days have our backs (The Northern Alliance).

General McChrystal is a Special Operations guy, and if anyone can get the job done with a smaller than ideal force, he certainly seems to be that person. Not giving him the requested assets however, is akin to knee-capping the entire campaign.

So...we need to keep being the world's police force...allowing the military budget to eat up more and more of our resources? We cant have medical coverage...better education...we cant improve our infrastructure because we are the 21st Century Hessions. Thats not the world I want to live in.

Move to Oregon. They have legal euthanasia there, that should deal with your issue.

People like you always change their tune as soon as there's some bleeding-heart charity cause that they want the military to solve. Then it's all, "Why aren't we doing more in [Third World Country] to help them with their problems?! Why is Amerikkka so selfish?"

I'm sure if we stopped improving our military, the rest of the world would quit the arms race, too. Then we could all give each other hugs and make smores around a campfire.

We have medical coverage. It's just not the way you think it should be. Why do you even care? You leech your existence from the government. It doesn't affect you, it's just something for you to bitch about.

> better education...

I agree with you on this one. Our education system is spawning people like you, and really needs to be revamped.

This is just gibberish. What the fuck is a Hession?

Well, tin cups break formula whenever convenient with the Mongols, yourself.

> Thats not the world I want to live in.

Thank God you won't. This country's got enough problems. One less whining malcontent would be a good thing.
