i liked it. it's likely you did not hold it to the standard of a movie but rather a "trek" movie.

It pissed me off that they killed off Spock's mom, but other than that I thought it was great.

My favorite part was when McCoy gave Kirk that disease to get him on the Enterprise and then had to keep on sticking him with crap because Kirk kept on having adverse reactions.

Considering what total piles of shit the Star Trek movies were under Rick Berman, I'm sure fans are just happy to have something that is coherent to watch.

It was good, but its going to turn off the die hard Trekkies since it was more action than techno-babble and intellectual debates.

I know I'm getting old when Winona Ryder can play Spock's mother. I can remember seeing her in Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice when she was still really young.

What I don't understand is why they would call it Star Trek if they are telling a completely different story?
Why not just start a whole new series with different names for people and stuff.
I haven't seen the film yet, so I can't say whether or not I liked it, but from the outside, it seems like they just hijacked the Star Trek name and popped it onto a similar story line.

Uh, perhaps because the Star Trek franchise makes beaucoup bucks, practically like printing money?

And a completely different story with different names for people "and stuff" wouldn't?

The new Star Trek is supposed to be a reboot of the whole franchise. After the last couple of movies and the shit series "Star Trek Enterpise", Star Trek needs to be re-invented.

It was a great movie...the only scene I didnt enjoy was when Kirk was dumped on the frozen planet and he was chased by local intelligent life. That part seemed very contrived and Harry Potterish.

I don't think that giant beast looking thing and huge spider qualify as intelligent life...

Well..I'll have to give you the benifit of the doubt based upon your overall responses that you truly cannot recognize intelligence. But if we were to discover creatures like that let's say on Mars..it would be designated "intelligent". Not as intelligent as the average person..but maybe as or more intelligent then you.

Thank you for giving me the "benifit" of the doubt. So important to give someone the "benifit"of the doubt when talking of intelligence.

Yea, my troll is still here and decided to post under yet another anonymous handle. I guess that now makes me a regular - having a stalker and all. Hot damn, I'm so pleased.

Given the homo-erotic nature of some of your posts and your apparent fixation on me, I've got to ask a question. Are you a fatty chaser? Does the thought of my pear-shaped, rotund body make you tingle with delight? Sorry to disappoint, but I am straight. And no, my little teenage troll, I'm not a tranny either. Again, sorry to disappoint.

You're a teenager, aren't you? I kept on thinking and the only people I possibly hacked off enough on this site to develop this type of fixation were kids from Westfield High School. Yep, I made some rather pointed comments about the drug situation down there and that did piss off some kids and grads.

You're in the closet as well, aren't you? Wow, that must be tough. Being a teenager, gay, going to Westfield, in the closet and a fatty chaser must really bite the big one. Sucks to be you.

So go ahead and troll away. I don't mind. It's sort of neat, like having a my own personal fan club.

The most disturbing aspect of the film is the new romance between Spock and Uhura. It took the destruction of Vulcan to give Spock a love life.

There you have it, the kind of person that likes the movie - someone whom classifies divergent taste as being a douche...

What's your point? Do you think that only intelligence at the human level qualifies as "intelligent"? Apes...whales..elephants are all intelligent life forms.

The point is that in the context of finding extra-terrestrial life, none of your above examples would be considered intelligent.

That's how this thing got started, talking about the damn spider thing on the ice planet being intelligent. Somehow it turned into a philosophical debate.

im the type of person that is an elitist asshole when it comes to movies, im very critical. So i think you should probably take my review to mean this is a very good movie. Even the top critics have given this movie great reviews, it has like a 95% on rotten tomatoes now... so im definately not alone on this

Its a more intelligent discussion then the one we are having here. It's ridiculous to think that we are the only intelligent life on this planet. That animals are purely instinctive...

Just watched the new Star Trek. Even the bootleg version was great. Im gonna see again at the theaters. Some of the CGI wasn't complete in this version.

The plot was good, but I think its been done in a couple other TNG episodes. Seeing a planet implode is always cool

I'll agree it wasn't very 'techie" oriented, but the characters were great.
Both Spocks were great,Kirk was alright and OHura.. Damn she is hot! The foldout in Esquire didn't do her justice.

It could have been 20 mins longer, maybe to get back stories on more characters.

I loved the homage to original Kirk,Something about a really hot green chick.

if the Batman movies can constantly be redone with new actors playing Batman, joker, Harvey Dent etc etc Then Star Trek Can be redone the same way. As long as people line up to pay and see the movies THEN the companies will produce new Star Trek episodes thusly.

Many people were worried about the new Star Trek movie being directed by the same guy that did Cloverfield, but I think the movie is in the right direction.

There is already talk of a sequel in pre-production.

Finally had a chance to see the new Star Trek movie. The plot was derivative of Star Trek the Motion Picture, Wrath of Kahn, The Voyage Home and First Contact. The slapstick humor (the swollen hands gag) was stupid, as was throwing around contemporary terms like "lock and load." And while there was tons of action, the pacing was too frantic.

While better than the "Next Generation" films, the movie certainly is not "The Star Wars of this Generation" as some have claimed and it isn't as good as Star Treks 2 through 4. It has also been compared to Iron Man. I can live with that.

It'll be seen as campy and cheesy in about 10 years along with every other Star Trek film...

Finally saw the whole movie. Not good. The whole Spock/Uhura thing was completely out of character. The acting was average at best. Dumping Kirk on that frozen planet was ridiculous. I guess Spock never heard of the brig. The story was bad. If you're going to give the movie a Star Trek label, the story should at least be consistent with the rest of Star Trek history. Since they didn't restore the timeline, now there's no Vulcan, and Spock's mother is dead. Both of these things, especially the planet Vulcan, were written into other movies and TV shows that occurred after this movie's time.

I think you're missing the point. They needed to re-write history in order to create a whole new timeline, kind of an alternate reality. I fully expect another movies and probably even a series to emerge with this crew. Big money maker for them.

After all, the original cast is all dead or dying off...at the very least, they're too old and fat to do any real good action or love scenes.

I see your point, and if they're able to make subsequent movies with that timeline that are successful, that's great for them. That doesn't change my opinion of this movie, though.

It will be interesting to see if they can make a string of successful movies with actors that didn't develop a following from an earlier TV series.
