Apple Moving iCloud Data Centers to Solar Polar
Posted by: Solar Power ()

Apple has long maintained that its data center in Oregon will be 100 percent powered by clean energy, following in the footsteps of its ground-breaking data center in Maiden, North Carolina. And now there’s some news about how Apple it will do it: according to Oregon Public Broadcasting, Apple is buying up additional land to build a solar farm near the data center in Prineville, Oregon and could sell the power from the solar project back to the local utility.

Apple used this method for its two 20 MW solar farms in North Carolina, and will also likely do this for its 137-acre solar farm in Reno, Nevada. The strategy to directly work with solar panel provider and project developer SunPower to build a solar system that is owned by Apple is unusual in the Internet industry, particularly at the scale that Apple is doing it.

Let's say a couple thousand pigeons decided to hang around this solar farm......do massive amounts of bird shit on the solar panels cause brownouts or blackouts?

Solar panels are usually cleaned to keep dirt and dust off. I think Amazon has some robot cleaning device. Not sure about Apple.

Is lunar power possible?

There are a couple of power sites that use tides\water to make electricity. Kinda of lunar power since the moon creates the tides. Called tidal electricity. It works in areas where there a strong tides.

Interesting. Could this be used as a power source?

A couple years ago several hundred birds landed on a long solar power strip. The birds all died because it was so hot. The panels confuse the birds into thinking that it is safe place to land.

Ban solar power! It's bad for the environment.

They need to put one of those at Jupiter Inlet in Jupiter Florida because you gotta see the tide there to believe it. It looks like the Colorado River going in and out!

It really just depends on whether she is some sort of succubus fucking bitch. Just look at Alias, she's been going through menopause for twenty years now.

All of the data centers, not just Apple, are now moving towards solar power. They both be powered and make money off the returned powered.

It also makes sense to have alternate power off the grid. If a section of the power grid is wiped out the solar powered data centers can still function.

It's easy to build huge data centers in dessert areas that are very flat. You don't very much info structure like a town to support the centers.

Not as long as you've been going through puberty.

If we didn't have solar panels, then the birds wouldn't be able to kill themselves.

How much energy do guns produce? Can I hook a gun one up to my house and power it? There's a productive purpose to solar cells. Your analogy is terribly flawed.

Stop being stupid. (If it's possible, lol)

I thought this thread was about Solar Polar, how did we get on guns?
