Superman breaking General Zod's neck...agree or disagree?

I heard about it long before seeing the movie just recently and a lot of people seemed to be getting really bent out of shape over it. Now that I've seen it, those people are just silly. It was abundantly clear that Superman had absolutely no choice but to kill Zod. There had already been thousands if not hundreds of thousands of casualties judging by the destruction by the climax of the film before they faced off. What was Superman supposed to do? Just let him go and make him promise not to return? I never liked Superman, he's too much of a conservative. Superman would no doubt have voted for both George W. Bush and Mitt Romney. He's a square. A stiff. Superman would definitely be a pro-life, trickle-down economics-having conservative dick in real life. But I liked this new movie because they made Superman have some anger issues, and he did what he had to do.

Still a dumb character and a premise that completely doesn't work in the 21st century (how are they going to explain away the retarded business of Clark Kent disguising himself with just a pair of eyeglasses?). And where exactly in the contiguous United States is Metropolis located? And how is it an alien race has to adapt to earth's atmosphere yet they speak english? These kinds of things are really why the Superman story doesn't work for a modern audience. But a step in the right direction.

Mr. Misery,

You are 30 years old and worry about comic book characters.

Blessed are the murderous.

I really sympathized with his character. Reminded me of White Nationalists trying to preserve and perfect their race and their traditional culture while also colonizing the rest of this world in order to create a utopia. Yet the fucking race traitors keep stabbing us in the back (or in this case, breaking our necks...)

*sniff*

RIP General Zod...

They set the bar for action too high. There are literally no other Superman villains that can actually put up a physical fight against Superman. None. The closest in line after the Phantom Zone guys is Brainiac. No one wants a Superman vs. Brainiac movie. Even if Batman fights Superman, it will only be a battle of wits, which will be over very quickly as Superman is not smart. No action to be had there. This is the biggest flaw in Superman: he's too powerful. When your greatest nemesis is a bald Bernie Madoff, you know you've got a dud of a character on your hands.

Cal-El would fucking destroy Wayne. He'd just pull that giant, "S" logo made out of saran-wrap from his chest like he did in "Superman II" and roll that bat up like a giant doobie, then "smoke" him with eye-driven laser fire. Fuck him...and fuck you, too Guy.

What I dont get is how he broke his fucking neck in the first place? I mean they were bashing eachother into buildings and literally bringing them down with their body alone, youre telling a lil neck snap would kill such a strong person like that?

FAIL!!!

I remember reading somewhere that a DC comics writer or editor or someone when asked about it came up with some cock and bull story about how Superman can vibrate his face at some type of super frequency that makes it look different to people, subconciously or something...or something. So that's how he can go around without a real disguise other than a pair of glasses. He vibrates his face.

I think it was Jay Garrett( the original Flash) who vibrates his face. Superman subconciously uses super hypnosis to make every -FUCKING- body on earth and beyond to think the glasses changes his face.

The problem with Superman is movie makers never go back to the original Superman who had the strength of 10 men and just jumped around. That's why the comics kill him every 10 years or so. That's the only way to reboot the series and make him less powerful.

He attended the University of Metropolis and majored in Journalism. That's where he met his second girlfriend, Lori Lemaris. Damn noob.

The Daily Planet was a liberal rag. All he had to do was copy and paste what Obama told them to say.

Thank you whoever made this thread. You're a beacon of hope in a dark and heartless forum.
Here's my two cents about it. General Zod, in many many ways was best suited to be the first villain in these new era superman movies. First and foremost, his backstory is "similar" to Kal-el's in that they both originated on Krypton and gained their powers through the destruction of their home world. In the comics, Zod only has even fought superman a handful of times, and I guess that the people in charge looked at Zod and went, "oh, theres a guy superman can beat the shit out of for 1.5 hours". Fact of the matter is that pre-crisis superman would have beaten him to death without trouble. In term of brute strength, he is NOT the equal of superman, under any circumstances. This rustled the shit out of me all throughout man of steel. Oh and the whole breaking his neck thing was cute, I guess, but the movie itself was shit. It was shit, and im mad as fuck about it.

There was not enough story in this one. I don't like to compare movies. I like to judge them on their own merits, but I couldn't help but think about the original Christopher Reeve Superman. And as cheesy and outdated as it is, there is still a lot in it story-wise and character-wise that holds up. There was very little character development in Man of Steel. I suppose the rationale was, "we all know the story, so let's not waste time setting these characters up too much". But I found myself wanting to see more of young Clark Kent growing up in Smallville, I wanted to see the Kents find him out in that field and adopting him, even though we've seen it a million times already. Without all that, I felt something was missing. Also, Perry White and a handful of other characters, including Lois Lane to some extent, were really just "there". If they could have somehow combined the best story and character elements of the original film with the updated, edgier tone of this one, I think it would've been great. But then again, you only get 2 to 2 1/2 hours here...

I really don't know a lot about Superman aside from what's in the popular culture for non-Superman fans. Not a DC guy to begin with. However, there was some great action in the movie. I just wish there had been more heart to it. Even at over 2 hours running time, it felt like they were rushing through things. Having said that, Superman Returns makes The Man of Steel look like Rashomon. What a stinkfest that movie was. They overcompensated for the action that was non-existent in the last one.

I hope we get a scene like this in the Batman vs. Superman movie:
