The enormous amount of taxes he paid kept you in food stamps, admit you are jealous of his success and end it.

Baltimore Sun says "a brief illness", which is a euphemism for "aggressive cancer". I'd speculate lung cancer.

I'm so glad this piece of shit's dead...I've been waiting 25 years for this fucking news!

In 1988, I was 17 years old. I had read all of his books and "Cardinal of the Kremlin" was being released and he was attending a book signing at the Crown Books at Springfield Mall. This was in his creative prime so, the line of course was incredibly long.

At that time in my life, I was exploring the idea of writing as a profession and he was absolutely my #1 author idol. I had a list of questions about being a writer that while I knew I wouldn't get to ask them all, I we just going to fire away at him and hope for the best...

So, after 3 hours of waiting I get to the front of the line. I had purchased "Cardinal" then and there at Crown to have him sign and I had brought all of his hardbacks that I owned to sign, too. I step up to him and lay down the books to sign. He takes one look at the stack and points to a sign in 10-point font that says, "Hey kid...can't you fucking read? I'm only signing "Cardinal" today...can you see the line behind you? If everyone wanted to have all my books signed, I'd be here all day. I don't have time for that and other people don't want to wait that long...Christ!"

Undeterred in my quest to interview my writing hero, I started in with my questioning, "Mr. Clancy...I'd like to write a novel someday, too. How do you feel about the evolving geo-political Arab-Islamic message of hate as it relates to the freedoms we here in the West enjoy as a way of life? Could that somehow be molded into the plot of a techno-thriller in a style similar to the novels that you write?"

He turns to one of his handlers and says, "Hey...would someone get Ernest Hemingway here to the exit please?" Then turns to me and says, "Kid...the line? I don't have time for this...I don't know what to tell you."

I never read "Cardinal" nor any of his books ever again. What an absolute crabby fucktard of a human being! Holy fuck, Tom...I'm sorry so many people bought your fucking books and made you so popular that you have all this "work" now coming out to book signings and doing your fans a solid. Rot in the 8th circle of Hell you fuck...

Cardinal of the Kremlin is one of my all time favorites.

Why are you soo much more important than everyone else. You talk about how long the line was and you still insisted on getting a billion thing signed and ask your boring questions.

If you are such a talent, try corresponding with a writer by writing him instead of wasting everyone's time, asshole.

One of my favorite authors, but I can't say that I'll miss him because he stopped writing anything new two decades ago.

Liberals are nasty, intolerant people.

Beware of attending a dinner party if a liberal has been invited. Self-absorbed, they are generally ill-mannered and prone to anti-social behavior.

The liberal quickly gets personal and angry if his ideas are met with debate. I watched one actually jump up from the table and march out of the room, like a child having a tantrum over split ice cream.

The rest of us just sat there and stared, almost like we were at the zoo.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or not but, I'll play...

I was 17. I'm sure when you were 17 and had a chance to meet someone you admired you forgot about the 3 hour line despite the fact that you had just stood in it yourself. Boring questions? Again...17. What kinds of questions were you asking of people you held in such high regard you found breathing difficult in their presence? If I'm such a talent try corresponding with a writer? I wasn't "such a talent". Again...17. And I did write Tom...and several others. Never heard back. Probably my penmanship, huh? Then again, the whole mess was my fault because people shouldn't be put in such high regard in the first place, right? Especially a gay-hater like ol' Tommy...

I re-read Hunt for Red October earlier this year, I had forgotten what an awesome book it is. It's probably been almost twenty years since I read Cardinsl of the Kremlin, but I do remember thinking it was his best book, I might have to pull that out again and re-read it.

Hunt for Red October is great. I do prefer the movie ending. Love me some Red Storm Rising.

Not trolling.

You obviously still haven't learned a thing. I ask again, why did you feel you were so much more important than everyone else in the crowd and therefore deserved more time than everyone else?

Why are you still holding it against the man decades later?

Did you ever have anything published? Or did Tom break your spirit and deprive us all of your brilliant prose.

Oh, the behavior on both sides can be the same.

The truth of the matter is that there are very few people in the country that really know what is going on in the world.

I mean really know what is going on in the world...from an economic, political, global security, etc. point of view.

It is like many people think they "know" football...they yell at the TV, they talk about it (mostly parroting what the "analysts" say during the game), but in reality, they know sh**.

And they really shouldn't know as much as a pro coach, should they? After all, a pro or college coach typically puts in 80 to 100 hours a week, and have been doing so for 10-20-30 years. And before that, probably played the game at a pretty high level.

For some ding dong who played high school ball to think they know what is going on in a pro game is really ridiculous to me. I've worked with college recruited QB's who will be completely lost in the first 3 minutes of a college game plan...that lasts about 2 hours. No comprehension whatsoever.

Same with world economics and politics...most people know sh** on either side. And they shouldn't because they don't do 60-80 hours a week where guys like John Bolton are working at these things...studying them...negotiating...travelling to these countries. Nope, these regular folks are doing what they do...going to their jobs...paying their bills...going to their kids games. As they should. Not really worrying about and studying world events, except what is right in front of their nose. Maybe, a high school, or even college level of the stuff. But definitely not pro.

But, both sides will get pissed and resort to attacking each other reallll quick, won't they?

It is really because they don't know sh**, and when you don't have the facts, attacking the other side is the next best thing.

Excellent response. You were able to take a situation where you were being a complete jerk and spin it into you being a victim. You were able to use the "I'm only 17" as being victimized as a kid. The regime is proud of you.

Maybe Clancy was arrogant, maybe not. Maybe you were PMS'ing that day. From that day forward, Clancy continued to be a successful writer. You on the other hand, continue to relive your life as a 17 year old and feel the need to bore everyone here with your story. Grow up, get past it. Just because you idolized him does not mean he has to sit through a impromptu interview that you feel he owes you.

Nobody owes anybody anything really...my issue is not that Tom didn't let me "interview" him or sign the books I brought...it was the tone and how he said what he said.

And that doesn't mean I expected him to kiss my ass and invite me down to the yacht club later either...but, there is a way to say no to people, especially young people, in a way that doesn't make them feel so insignificant.

A few years prior to this I saw John Riggins in a restaurant following a loss. My Dad pointed me out to him and before he could say, "Let's leave the Diesel to his dinner..." I ran over there and got his autograph. He couldn't have been nicer. Riggins had every reason to be a dick in that situation...Clancy, not so much.

A shame as TC was a fantastic author, and actually a good dude. As people have written here, stop holding up the line, he was doing everyone a favor, not just you.

Okay lady, so your feeling were hurt because you didn't like the way he talked to you. We certainly can't have people offended, now can we? You really need to grow up and get past this. There are millions of ways that people can say no to one another. Just because he did not meet your expectation of how he should talk to you doesn't mean he is wrong. But it does keep you being a victim. You can always blame him for this and tell your story over and over.

Seriously, get over it.

This is probably true.

Sure, both sides get pissed, but one side is conspicuously less likely to debate an issue civilly, choosing instead to attack its opponents. From the nobody blogger to Obama himself, liberals are less tolerant of dissent.

Disagree with Obama and you're a racist or you're selfish or you want to kill the children. Obama is calling his opponents "terrorists" and "kidnappers". This is despicable behavior, more what you'd expect from a 3rd world dictator and should be beneath the president of the United States. Then again, so should using the IRS to stifle dissent and intimidate opponents.

The view that liberals are angrier and less tolerant than conservatives was confirmed by a 2012 study conducted by the Pew Research Center.

28% of liberals have blocked, unfriended or hidden someone on SNS, compared with 16% of conservatives and 14% of independents.
