Spending, Taxes, And Deficits Are All Lower Today Than When Obama Took Office

Federal spending is lower now than it was when President Obama took office.

I’ll pause to let the Tea/bagger Republican idiots among us absorb the news....

In January 2009, before President Obama had even taken the oath of office, annual spending was set to total 24.9 percent of gross domestic product. Total spending this year, fiscal year 2012, is expected to top out at 23.4 percent of GDP.

Taxes today are lower than they were on inauguration day 2009. Back in January 2009, the CBO projected that total federal tax revenue that year would amount to 16.5 percent of GDP. This year? 15.8 percent.

The deficit this year is going to be lower than what it was on the day President Obama took office. Back then, the CBO said the 2009 deficit would be 8.3 percent of GDP. This year’s deficit is expected to come in at 7.6 percent.

If all you do is read or listen to the Right Wing Noise Machine (Faux News, AM Hate Radio, etc, etc) you would have been told over and over again that the economy is in the toilet because of Obama. The truth is (not surprisingly) exactly the opposite.

What Republicans are doing now is promising a return to the already failed Bush economic policies that tanked the US economy in the first place.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. economy grew at a 2.5 percent annual rate from April through June, much faster than previously estimated. The steep revision was largely because U.S. companies exported more goods and imports declined.

The Commerce Department said second-quarter growth was sharply higher than the initial 1.7 percent rate it reported last month. And the growth this spring was more than double the 1.1 percent rate from January through March.

The improvement in the trade deficit helped offset a weaker government spending.

Economists expect growth will stay at an annual rate of around 2.5 percent in the second half of the year, helped by steady job gains and less drag from federal spending cuts.

Look at that my troll is back. It was only a matter of time with how bad you were getting your ass handed to you in every thread.

Let me guess it was you tripping over yourself in the McDonald thread doing a 180 on all your stances, or was it the Harvard gun study that sent you over the edge this time.

Just stick to your rants, theyre the best part of most threads and highly entertaining.

Frezzing Federal employee pay was a big step. Bigger step would have been to cut it, or really put a freeze on it as people are still getting raises when they hit their Step date. It was a good idea, just didn't follow through with it.

Tax rates are far higher than they have been in many years. The fact that total tax revenues are down is an indication of his failure to stimulate the economy, and his failure to raise more revenue through higher taxes.

Tax revenue way over estimates for 2012 as people took income to avoid additional increases.

deficit down because he got played on sequester.

No presidents tax policy has ever been declared a success on its ability to lower total tax revenue. FAILED.

His supporters are also pretty violent against anyone who oppose their policies. I was coming out of Target the other day and some liberal walking past me reached around as he walked by and slugged me from behind and muttered "fuckin teabagger" under his breath. A total cheap shot. Obama's minions will do anything even if its illegal to suppress free speech.

LoLz!

What made your attacker think that you're a teabagger?

What makes you think that your attacker was liberal?

More of your bullshit numbers games. lol

The percentage is only lower now versus 2009 because we spent a ton of money then for TARP, the stimulus, et. al. It's still higher than historical levels.

Governemnt%2BSpending%2Bas%2BPercent%2Bo

And that's giving the benefit of calculating it as a percentage of GDP. Given that government spending is counted in GDP and increases the base GDP number on which the percentage is calculated it's a further deceptive number. In absolute terms spending is significantly higher.

No, "taxes" are not lower. Tax revenues are lower. As noted above, that's largely a function of economic activity not Obama lowering taxes.

Same applies as above re the numbers game. It's only lower because it was extraordinarily high due to the crash. You're further trying to play games by counting versus CBO *projections* versus actuals and, again, as a percentage of GDP. The deficit still is larger in absolute terms. And, as a result of pushing some major contributing factors off into the future, it will grow greatly in the out-years.

ThinkProgress may be able to get you suckers to buy into their BS but don't try brining that weak shit here. lol
