Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I’d rather be unemployable and financially dependent on my parents then let somebody kick me off of FFXU
Date: December 31, 2012 12:36PM

That’s right! My legacy will be that I stood up to a faceless enemy and refused to cave in. I’m not the only person in this boat here. Why don’t we all share our stories as to why we decided this site was so important to us that we were willing to let our reputations be ruined as long as it meant that certain people would NEVER have the satisfaction of knowing that we left out of fear of them.

***Somebody may come and try to post a picture of a guy and a girl claiming it is me. Do not believe it!***

This is something that I've never understood. How can a rational person decide this site is so valuable that they are willing to endure the consequences of a thorough Google-fucking just so they can..... what? I seriously don't get this part.

It's my belief that people (I won't mention names) who wind up getting dealt with in this regard are simply irrational and probably mentally ill. Or maybe they just have nothing to lose. I can't even imagine going into a job interview knowing that my name was now associated withe being a pedo.

Do you try to preempt it or just hope they never bother to Google search you? How do you explain to a potential employer that you are not a child rapist? How is FFXU worth living with that dilemma?

I have you now.

The question is, what guarantee does the person being Google-fucked have that if they leave, the Google-fucking will stop? Absolutely none, and I'd venture it would even be ramped up a few more notches to make sure they were really, really gone.

Unless you're willing to publicly promise that you're going to remove all the defamatory statements you've made about someone if they commit to never visiting or posting on Fairfax Underground again, what's their incentive to leave?

The incentive to stay, however, is clear. By their continued presence and posting, they will continue to vex and annoy you and waste your time coming up with new and clever ways to maliciously defame them.

Unlike tic tac toe or global thermonuclear war, the only way to win is to keep playing.

That has the makings of a GREAT movie.

He probably isn't even really that William guy, that's why he doesn't seem to care. The whole idea that Mr. Misery is William was based on one anon comment that was removed.

I'm not going to rehash this argument again but I did the research on that DCart site and viewed all of his cached posts. The internal consistency is there. Drawing out the process of releasing proof is part of the fun.

But I'm done with this thread.

Well, what's the point of trying to create real-life problems for someone because of you silly little online beef? Even if Misery annoyed the shit out of you and you hated his posts and posting history, he didn't try to make things personal and create real problems for people. The "google fucking" is an attempt to create a real-world problem, and is a disproportionate response to someone who annoyed you on a message board.

It's shit like this that's stagnated FU.

There is no simple answer here. The problem is that certain people have little respect for anybody or anything. How do you force lizzie or Inka or Miz to behave and not ruin this place for everybody? Most people wouldn't act the way these ass-holes do because they have something which these three are lacking—empathy.

The only way to force them to not engage in behavior which will ruin this forum is to provide real life consequences. In other words they have to feel some pain on a personal level because they are lacking empathy and thus the ability to give a shit about anybody else. Left to their own devices, they would act out in ways that would ruin this place.

We have seen it here many times.

What about locking 5000 threads?

Or maybe we need a few dozen threads about gutting people like fishes or how you "just can't ignore me!!!"

How about a healthy discussion about having sex with infants?

Its shit like that which ruined FU more than anything else I've seen here.

How long has Mr Misery been banned? A year? And yet somehow he is still posting.

How about Pat? Still posting, and he in fact was able to knock FFXU offline for a solid week with a bogus DMCA complaint and render it unusable for several days before that with his adventures in copy-pasting some malformed HTML.

The problem with your theory is that the so-called "real life consequences" you describe seem to have exactly zero effect on curbing anyone's behavior, and in fact have the follow-on effect of making Fairfax Underground even shittier.

All you're proving by fighting with an asshole by being an even BIGGER asshole is that you are a GIGANTIC GAPING ASSHOLE, which is not an accomplishment to be proud of.

"If you gaze into the asshole, the asshole gazes also into you," or something like that.

I understand what you're saying, but that's not anybody's responsibility but Cary's. It's his forum. By trying to take matters into your own hands, all you do is force things to be escalated. They bring a knife, you bring a pistol, they bring an assault rifle, you get a bullet-proof vest, they get armor-piercing ammunition, etc. Nobody but Cary can truly influence someone's posting habits, whether it's through bans, post moderation, etc.

When you try to fight back on your own, all you do is teach them new tricks.

Short memory Wrote:
-------------------------------------------------------
> What about locking 5000 threads?

Cary's problem. None of us have a right to use this board; if the moderator doesn't take action, that's not an invitation to others to act in a dickish way that only fuels his determination.

> Or maybe we need a few dozen threads about gutting
> people like fishes or how you "just can't ignore

If there was a threat, then the person the threat was made against should have gone to the police and filed a report. It's not necessary for others to jump in and form a lynch mob.

She wasn't wrong about people not being able to ignore her. Depriving a troll or asshole of an audience is the only way to truly neutralize them. The sooner everyone realizes that, the sooner 50% of the problems on here will disappear.

> How about a healthy discussion about having sex
> with infants?

I thought it was disgusting and in poor taste, but reporting it is all you can should do. If he'd actually posted child porn, confessed to raping a child, etc., then he certainly should be exposed so the authorities can take action. That was not the case with the thread that you're referencing.

Of course, Cary can turn someone into the authorities easier than you can, so again, you shouldn't bother.

> Its shit like that which ruined FU more than
> anything else I've seen here.

The solution is more moderators, period. Cary is one guy trying to manage the posts made by hundreds if not thousands of people. He's not getting paid for this work, so expecting him to spend all day address abuse complaints is unreasonable. Deputizing a couple trusted regular users so they can temporarily ban accounts, lock threads, and edit posts is the easiest way to eliminate most of the problems on here.

Such as?
Do you think there are unbiased users here that could or would manage this site?

I would trust you, Meeper, Genevieve, and Warhawk. I would personally trust eesh, but I don't think a lot of people would feel comfortable with that. Harry Tuttle is a maybe, but (sorry buddy) I don't really know anything about him.

I know I could be trusted, but my opinion may not reflect the general consensus.

Of course, any deputized moderators should be given their own screen name that designates them as a moderator to A) keep the moderators' identities anonymous, B) establish that they are a recognized authority, and C) to maintain accountability in case a moderator goes mad with the power.

It would just be for simple things: editing out personal information or exploits, imposing short-term bans (no longer than 7 days), etc. Moderators wouldn't be able to undo changes done by Cary or the other moderators. Longer-term bans, making sticky threads, account deletion, IP address bans, and other more serious stuff would still be left to Cary.

Think of how much better it would have been if, during the Great Thread Locking of 2012, one of the regular users (who were on this site anyway) could have just logged in and hid/deleted all the thread-locking posts at once. Between a couple people, the disruption would have been much less severe.

At this point, we've all revealed some of our personal viewpoints regarding politics, music and entertainment, morality, equal rights, religion and other stuff and those who disagree with them will take issue with us. Cary stays out of all that, for the most part and that helps him to be a good and fair moderator.

You would also have to have a fairly good understanding of code and how to fix stuff when idiots attack.

I would like to have a separate FU page/forum for only registered users. No Alias' and no anonymous web browsers (Tor, ect...) and no moderators.

Thanks for the endorsement, but I know that I don't have the patience that Cary has with the turds that constantly come here and fuck things up. Plus, contrary to popular opinion, I do have a life outside of my mom's basement and don't have a lot of free time to deal with all of the nonsense.

Eesh is preparing an ancient ceremony for the god of fire, that will take 8 days to perform. He alone can perform the religious ritual.

I don't think that would matter. Personal views and opinions don't influence Cary's moderation; why would it influence someone else's? Just because someone's pro-gun or pro-choice doesn't mean they'll unfairly moderate a thread about the opposing viewpoint. Also, that's why the moderators wouldn't moderate under their own name.

Or maybe I just have too much faith in people. I'm sure Cary could figure out a way to see what actions the moderators have done and undo it if he wants. If someone's not working out, then he just revokes their moderator name.

I'd like to see it attempted on a trial basis, at least.

> You would also have to have a fairly good

True, but the vast majority of stuff that needs moderated is personal attacks, pictures, outing, spam, etc. None of that would require an in-depth knowledge.

basically reiterates what the OP wrote, only in the third person omniscient point of view...? ...almost as if, once Cary deactivated their impersonation/attack account, he jumped in to piggyback on what he wrote under said account (seeing as it had Cary had just moments before pulled the plug on it)...?

no?

Precisely. You left out two other key incentives (to stay), however:

1) at this late point in the game, once the persecuted person in question has already amassed a great deal of material him/herself on this site that he/she would not want his/her mother to read, let alone an employer, the principle of demonstrating a lack of fear for the persecutor becomes a worthwhile one (and let us also point out, as a matter of course, that the person who dogs the Google-fuckee in question only does so at the happenstance that he himself has not yet been 'outed'...and if/when that happens, both parties in this sad state of affairs would be as equals...i.e., both would have PLENTY to be embarrassed of IRL, should it ever come to the wrong peoples' attention).

2) perhaps, in staying--and in fact, in increasing their presence and in doubling their treble--the person being dogged is simply giving his/her accuser more and more (and more) rope, to hang themselves (in the figurative sense of course); and with each ratcheted-up attack, the pursued sees this as an opportunity to 'egg' his pursuer on, and in so doing, more and more rope is given...

*example number two illustrates the eesh/inkahootz 'sympathy for the devil' effect, in which one despicable person raises his own stock and increases his own credibility by egging on his obsessed troll and capitalizing on the negative fallout he inevitably brings to himself, and in the process, said obsessed troll goes on to suffer the only "real world consequences" that ever enter into play, which are statements of a libelous/threatening nature which, unlike a joke made in very poor taste on the internet, are indeed illegal and injurious to the person who writes them, and can and often do result in "real world consequences" of a legal nature.

Meanwhile, the first despicable party skates free, more or less unaffected in any way whatever by the second despicable party's attempt at creating "real world consequences". And after all, the second despicable party has over the course of these events lowered themselves so far below their target's original level of disrepute, that no one (online or IRL) would be readily inclined to take their word for anything, so damaged has their own character become in the vain attempt to damage that of another (i.e., inkahootz). Armadillo, go to jail.

one last thing...Cary, is there really any doubt Northman was the guy behind the account you just deactivated? He jumps in immediately saying the same stuff as the disabled account, in the same writing style, and probably knowing full well that his impersonation account would get its plug pulled eventually...which is why he couldn't post what he posted as William [redacted] under TheNorthman (he couldn't afford to get his primary account pulled).

inkahootz's are so cute when they're little, aren't they?

Great idea, Numbers.

Maybe you could post another gif of a woman being murdered and then impaled with a large metal rod in her rectum.

Don't forget to post your videos of animals being tortured.

Oh.... congratulations on being nominated forum moderator.

Hey Numbers, you'd be a great moderator and so would eesh.

I really dig your penis porn, and eesh is like totally trust worthy.

Genbo is the A-Number 1 choice for deputy moderator. I am not being sarcastic or facetious when I say that she is the most consistently real and most polite person to post on this forum. Gernervieve is a nice lady. She would make a good moderator.

Warhawk....I get him mixed up with Numbers, Tomahawk, and a bunch of other "Bill Pullman/Bill Paxton" non-personalities on here.....I couldn't tell you who the hell Warhawk is....like, what has he posted? Who is the guy? I couldn't pick his posts out of a lineup. The Warhawks, Numbers's, Tomahawks....basically, a bunch of the one-word name conservative stiffs, they're all the same. Might be a nice guy, I dunno.

Mephisto is a decent guy. I only have misgivings about his friendship with eesh. Other than that, consistently real and nice (until you're not nice to him) kind of guy. Good candidate.

And I used to think Gravis co-moderated the site anyway.

And Tuttle-man, of course. He'd be the number one choice aside from Genervriove (who I'm sure would have no interest anyway...she seems to always have fancy cheeses and wines keeping her busy).

Meeper is good with balsamic vinegar, but he decides which people he likes based on where they live and how much money they make.

Girls are emotional.

For example, I would have banned eesh 3 yrs ago, based on a feeling.

I think that the idea is if there were more moderators, it wouldn't be much work.

While I also appreciate MrMephisto's endorsement (and I've been here longer than just about anyone else still posting) I am not around consistently. My vote is for MrMephisto.

We're good forum buddies, but I don't know anything about you in real life. That's all. With the exception of Warhawk, I know everyone else I mentioned personally. Warhawk has proven to me that he's a trustworthy individual.

Would you like to take our relationship to the next level, Mr. Tuttle?

and how many times have you been banned, under different names?

Alias is still here and Cary is well aware of it...which means....he doesn't care. If he really wanted her gone, the Alias screen name would be deactivated or disabled from posting. This hasn't happened. Cary has given his tacit approval on this matter...he gives tacit approval A LOT.

'eesh' is (whoever the young man who post's as 'eesh's real name is here)'s front. It's his 'legit' account. He makes sure not to get his hands dirty under this registered name. But he has been banned many times, under different names. He has been spanked, many times, under different names. This is the front....this is (young man's name here)'s Bada Bing. His car wash (from Breaking Bad). And that's fine. ....just, don't throw stones. Your house is glass.

Alias,

I've noticed that from Thanksgiving to New Year's, your posts take a bitter and angry tone. Why is that?

You do it around Valentine's Day as well.

I think I can answer that from my own experience.

At a certain point in ones existance , one comes to realize that the best in life has passed.

The reality of this is certainly magnified by the traditional family oriented holiday season.

My guess is that Alias is middle aged or beyond, and this may be whats bothering the poor lady.

notice the lone "I" at the end of the first message, then read the second message (note that the "I" is edited out of the end of the message quoted in the second post). It's almost as if someone forgot momentarily to sign out of one account, caught themselves, then signed into their other account to agree with themselves.

I admitted no such thing. Do a little research yourself. Start with a Google search of Ned Stark.

What about moderator Ben?

I used to post here a lot a couple of years ago, under a couple of names. I pm'ed a few times with both mephisto and Wtl and they seem like decent human beings that can be trusted. I think either would make a fine moderator.
