Best Albums You've Never Heard Of
Posted by: trogdor! ()
Date: December 19, 2012 12:32AM

Does anyone have any albums (not just one song) that are on their personal "top 10" that most people have never heard of? It doesn't have to be completely unknown, but at least somewhat obscure.........

Twin Shadow-Forget

Very 80's post-punk sound. I can listen to this album 20 times in a row. Love it.

I've downloaded some of the songs from his newer album over the past few months. He gets played regularly on the Sirius indie rock channel.

Anything by Richard Thompson, especially Rumor and Sigh, Mock Tudor and I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight. By far the best guitarist you have never heard of.

Pretty much any album by Dead Meadow. Meeper has mentioned them before. Good psychadelic/stoner rock trio.

Raygun Suitcase by Pere Ubu. Wierd experimental UK band.

Rain Falls in Grey by Radio Massacre International. The band is mainly an ambient space electronica group but this album is an awesome tribute to Syd Barrett using early Floyd-era instruments and effects. I saw these guys at the U. Penn. campus a couple of years ago.

Agree with both of these. Pere Ubu was very original, though they were American. Saw them live at the old 9:30 with “The High Back Chairs” back in the day.

I’ll add “Piles of Dirty Winter” by “The Raymond Break”

yeah, Pere Ubu was part of the 70s Cleveland punk scene. Some of the band members went on to form The Dead Boys, arguably one of the greatest 70s punk bands of all time. Young, Loud, & Snotty is a high watermark in the history of punk rock.

It's almost the definition of 90's era college alt rock. The VT college station played it heavily. I have it somewhere.

Back in the day, a buddy turned me on to this Christian thrash band Deliverance. Their album Slay the Wicked is pretty awesome. Very 90's thrash/speed metal and not gay like Stryper. The lyrics arent too preachy, which is cool.

They were part of that early 90s "Madchester" music scene from England, along with other bands like EMF, Jesus Jones, etc.

This was their 'big hit'. Grey Cell Green.
