Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
But now that I have reached almost the 1 year mark with netflix I am now giving an honest opinion viewpoint of the service.
Do not get me wrong the service is still great but now I see it in a lesser light of favor.
What I have noticed is that movies have been shortened.
ARM CHAIR DIRECTORS- Not the like of real directors like Speilberg and others like James Cameron but so called directors who have never even sat in a live recording of the movie or TV show but edited the film tv show or movie and either removed or changed a scene to their own liking thinking it is better for the viewing audience.
A good example is the orginal star trek. Scenes of the star ship enterprise orbiting an alien planet is now a computerized CGI special effect and or the plant was totally replaced as well.
To the person who did that I say "FUCK YOU!!!!!" I HOPE YOU DIE OF AIDS or ASS CANCER!
Now when in regards of a movie who we all knew had a cult following so even fans knew the smallest detail was left out.
WTF DO YOU THINK WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!
Those people who do this I hope their wife and family members get run over and they are given the worst that life can give them.
Seriously fuck you!
I watch NETFLIX to watch the video UNEDITED! PERIOD!!! WITHOUT COMMERCIALS
FUCK UPS LIKE YOU need to die ASAP!
Dear Netflix. I am taking names and will in my own research will be posting names in a few weeks of the people responsible.
I highly doubt that you NETFLIX are responsible as all you do is carry the video feed.
Seriously! These people who re-edit movies after they have already been edited enough by the original director do not need to be edited any more!
Armchair editors need to DIE ASAP!
Your so called edits are not an enhancements at all! You have killed the viewing enjoyment of fans and hard core fans.
FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU!!! I HOPE YOU DIE AND GO TO HELL!
Quality of the videos stram has improved somehwat but yes I do agree that some videos were edited in such a way that certain elements/scenes were removed.
Why do they do that?
I'm on FIOS which is allegedly the fastest network in the area. My laptop is 2nd shelf and along with my network is regularly looked at by my buddy who is a network engineer.
I find Netflix's stream to just be a dribble. In order to show a 2 hour film you need to have a "frothy rope" of a data stream or it's going to jump and cut and pause and otherwise be unwatcheable.
I still have an 8-track in my Torino so, maybe I'm the wrong guy to weigh in here but...I'll keep on buying BluRays and whatever else comes down the retail pipe. The technology is just not there yet to stream reliably.
Go watch any star trek the original series and you will see what the op means.
This is not the first complaint i heard of this and i think the situation will only get worse.
I did read that a director found one of his movies that he directed was redited and he says that it IS a copyright violation by reediting a movie and passing it off as the real deal.
The interviewer asked the video editor and he replied he was just improving the originals.
I think when Hollywood gets to see one of these edits then we might find current living stars fuming mad at their damaged work of art.

I agree. Those people that re-edit movies do not need to be edited any more.
I doubt Netflix is editing anything. it's probably the companies releasing the movies to Netflix. It's like colorizing: if the technology is cheap enough, it's in the company's interests to keep their product contemporary.

If they edit just to add color then I am fine with that.
Its removing certain scenes that piss me off.

Could be the CEO is some christian fundamentalist, or they've received a lot of complaints from the family values crowd. There are some scenes in some movies that can be unsettling to religiously minded individuals.
Christians deserve to be able to watch movies, too.

Or it could be that Netflix isn't editing anything and the trekkie OP is way off base.

HBO, Cinemax, and especially the over-the-air networks definitely edit movies. There's no question about that. The only question is why each one does it, and the answer is different for each.
