POTUS Deserves A Goddamned Vacation!

Oh, the screaming and crying and gnashing of teeth at the price tag for the Obama’s approximately $4.1 million Hawaii vacation . . . yes, it could be that the trip is costing over $4 million, with Secret Service detail, advance planning, staff, the White House press corps, and all of the perks of being President of the United States (and practically the whole frigging planet).
Perhaps the critics of this vacation believe the Obamas and their daughters should fly commercial, wander off the plane in Hawaii and hail a cab to their vacation spot – and that they aren’t deserving of the exacting plans and security required when the First Family travels. Again, the Obamas will rent and pay for their own accommodations in the form of a beach front rental on Kailua,” while the First Family’s staff and White House press corps bunk at the Moana Surfrider, a Westin hotel with rates starting at $250. Sheesh, visitors to Chicago pay more than that for a room at the Holiday Inn.
So, let’s see exactly what horrifying extravagance is costing such horrific amounts . . . oh, wait – they aren’t horrific amounts. And there’s no horrifying extravagance.
As reported by hawaiireporter.com, the biggest ticket item for this vacation is the travel, pegged at $3,629,622. For Air Force One, running at about $181,757 per flight hour, to fly direct from Washington D.C. to Hawaii is about 9 hours, or $1,635,813 each way. Add to that the cost of the USAF C-17 cargo aircraft that transports the Presidential limos, helicopters and other support equipment to Hawaii, another C-17 flight with the presidential helicopter, pilots and support crews for the test flights, plus the six-member crew’s per diem and hotel, and you’ve got a big chunk of the total price tag.
Detractors would no doubt prefer that the Obamas fly commercial with two stop-overs.
Although the Obamas are paying for their own rental, housing is estimated at about $151,000 to house the Secret Service, Coast Guard and Navy Seals. The cost to put up the remaining staff and press corps costs the taxpayers about $72,000.
$260,000 of the total pricetag goes to local police and the ambulance that accompanies the President 24 hours a day.
Let’s take a little trip down memory lane. As of August of 2011, President Obama had taken 61 days of vacation, a number that paled in comparison, at the same point in their presidencies, with George W. Bush’s 180 days at his ranch, and Ronald Reagan’s 112 days at his. The Daily Kos estimated George W. Was gonna say this when someone on that website, beat me to it.
"Your math must be really new it arrive at $17M for Bushes time at Crawford for 180 days which does not mean 90 round trips on the plane. You also forgot to factor in the travel time for the backup Air Force One that is made for the long trips to Hawaii. Add in the inconvenience to the general public with the security fence around the First Family and their entourage when the go to the walk around the neighborhood, beach, golf course, gym, theatre, shops and restaurants. As least the Bushes and Reagans stayed home on their own acreage without inconviencing the neighbors and public at large. I am sure the other neighbors in Hawaii would have liked to entertain their families during Christmas holidays but cannot due to the extra security. In fact, Bush 43 always spent Christmas at the White House so the security detail could have Christmas with their families. The Clintons and Obamas are incapable to be that considerate. Chelsea just thought of her security detail as ‘pigs’ and said so to her friends. January 2013 cannot come soon enough when these freeloaders are evicted from D.C."

While I do agree that the vacation is expensive you do have to realize that regardless if a President is on vacation he/she, being nice on putting the she in there, is never really on vacation. The President still gets a National Security briefing everyday along with other tasks. A President isn't just going to wake up, eat breakfast, lounge around, eat again, family time, eat again, relax with some quiet time, etc, etc. He will be interrupted during those times for National business. Take a look at a President when they first enter office then take a look at them after they leave office..........WOULD YOU WANT A JOB LIKE THAT!!!!!
Again, the vacation spending, regardless of which President, is outrageoous but there are points to be made why some expenses are over the top.......AIR FORCE 1 for example.........there isn't a President/Dictator in the world that would travel onn public transportation. Safety issues, simeple as that. Again, WOULD YOU WANT THIS KIND OF LIFE????

I don't begrudge Obama a trip to Hawaii for vacation. I had more concern when his wife and kids traveled overseas and it absolutely blew my mind that shortly after becoming president in 2009 he took a private jet to New York and a helicopter ride to take his wife out to fucking dinner.
