Two good movies with Laurence Fishburne when he was known as Larry Fishburne are King of New York with Christopher Walken and Bad Company with Ellen Barkin.

He was in one of the Death Wish movies (2?). He was also Cowboy Curtis on Pee Wee's Playhouse. The late Phil Hartman was also on the show as Captain Carl. You can tell people have unusual talent when they transcend a bad movie or kid's show. That's also how Morgan Freeman started out.
