Ancient Riverbed on Mars

NASA’s Curiosity rover has found evidence that the area in Gale crater it is traveling through once had vigorously flowing water for perhaps thousands or millions of years. Scientists don’t know exactly how long ago this river would have flowed but it would likely be billions of years in the past.

How deep can Curiosity dig? Seems it would have dig fairly deep to find fossils or bones or bacteria.

I'm not buying it yet.
Different atmospheres can provide different rates of erosion by wind. I think NASA is being a bit hasty. They're trying to find water instead of objectively looking at the planet.
Probably the medias fault, still incredibly amazing.

I read all the John Carter of Mars books as a kid. Its a shame the movie was such a piece of crap.

You read about how they're looking for planets like earth (or, more probably, were or will be like earth) to find life. They keep saying how perfect earth is.
But Earth is perfect for life because life evolved to exploit Earth. So all this Earth like talk is well and good for finding planets for us to exploit. I kind of figure life can spring up and evolve in a massive range of conditions.
Amazing how many rules we use to describe Our reality, break down in space or on other planets, but evolution may be a universal constant.

You are right, we dont even have the funds to keep open or maintain our National park system, our wise leaders are too busy shoveling greenbacks to Nasa, defense contractors, Iraq and Afghanistan.You know all the folks who are sooo appreciative and give so much back to us.
