A great thing is about to happen in PWC - the department of fire and rescue will finally be run by true professionals. No longer will you have to watch as a crew of bumbling volunteers try to get vitals on your loved one as they die from a heart attack, no longer will you have to stand down and watch your house and your neighbors house burn down as the "Keystone cop" "Firefigthers" run around yelling at each other and not accomplishing anything.

No longer will you have to watch your child or wife burn up in a car fire because shit volunteers do not know how to pull a hoseline or staff a unit on time! Better days are coming citizens.

In case you were not aware, there was an audit done of the F&R system and it is bad for the volunteers. The audit shows how incompetent they are as well as their inability to run their own stations. Waste, fraud and abuse. Wow, I knew things were bad, but never this bad.

Finally, the BOCS will have to listen and in early March will finally vote to put control of the system where it belongs - with the paid chief. Soon after this, our uniform rank system will finally be put into effect (despite the best efforts of the volunteer scumbags to delay the process as long as possible) and then it will be BYE BYE VOLLIES!!! GOOD RIDDANCE YOU FUCKING TICKS!!!!!!!

I can't wait until me and my brothers can finally have a place of our own without those t-shirt wearing wannabes and hobbyists telling stories of the fantastic fire alarm they just ran or the harrowing diabetic emergency. Silence will be nice.

Volunteers are also so stupid. As their world is about to end, they are now scrambling to drum up support. Too late assholes! Your shit has sailed. We have the votes and your time is done!!! How much overtime is that for you? On the citizens dime. You should tell the citizens about the cost of that malfeasance. The vols save the county millions every year in labor. They have the same qualifications as you paid union pussies and the truth is most of them make more than a BC in their day jobs.

The citizens are getting some very qualified individuals on the job during vollie time. Far more qualified than your 40 new day maids that will soon be cleaning our stations during the day.

For years I have had to come to work in substandard conditions and at times being put in danger with my support being some volunteer who rides the seat once a month and thinks he knows something but doesn't know shit. I was butthut because I have been in serious danger of losing my butt due to volunteer incompetence.

Go volunteer at a soup kitchen. Save the county money by joining the ladies auxiliary somewhere. But stop trying to pretend you know something about firefighting. You don't. Me and my brothers put our lives on the line every day for little pay. All we ask is that we are in a safe, professional environment. Getting rid of you is the first step in the right direction.

Of course a 24 hour medic doesn't get overtime for the 5:50pm call. But why do you guys add a specialty piece for a "lift assist" at 5:57pm for a patient that weighs 120lbs? And you already have EIGHT guys there, but you need FOUR more? Then you stay on the call until 7:30pm. If you need TWELVE guys to lift that patient, I'd say your PT sessions aren't very effective. Maybe some volunteers that regularly run the same calls for free with two or three staff can help you be more efficient. Oh but wait, then you guys wouldn't be getting all that TIME AND A HALF pay for goofing off at the nursing home half the evening waiting for yet another call to come in so you suck even more OT from the poor county taxpayers.

Strange thing though - if that same EMS call comes at 5:50am, you guys sit there with your arms crossed and let the vols take it. Why? Because you start getting paid at 0600 even if you aren't doing shit.

I agree you guys get low pay, but many of you couldn't really get better paying jobs elsewhere. It's sad. I'm sure your snowflake girlfriends love riding around with your "paid firefighter" union tags during the day knowing they won't get ticketed for texting while driving (or anything else) since they are "on the inside".

Don't think for a second that URS implementation is going to do shit for you. It's just going to piss you off even more after July when nothing changes and you learn that most of those vollies have more training certs in their file than you have pay stubs. URS implementation is a beautiful thing. For one, it will get rid of many of the leach volunteers. Also, it will give us back control of the specialty pieces because we already know you losers can't staff them to begin with. Maybe we will let you drive one to the 4th of july parade. How long have you been a career firefighter? Obviously, not that long because you act as though you are better than everyone else. I have volunteered as an EMT for seven years. I didn't join so I could tell people what I do or have people view me differently. I joined because I wanted to help people and to see if I wanted a career in that field.Turned out that I didn't want to work full time in that field,but I enjoyed spending my spare time helping those who need it. I also joined to give back to the community. Not all of us are there for the status. Not all of us are stupid. Yes, there are some volunteer members that lack intelligence and common sense. Which is risk to others, but that also applies to career. Its not just one sided. You can not group all of us together. We are individuals. Just as you are. I know a lot of career firefighters/medics who don't mind me/ other volunteers around. Why? because some of us are there for the same reason. To help those in need. Whether it be putting out a fire or putting band-aids on kids or elderly's boo-boos.

You should try having a different attitude instead of acting like a limp-dick unicorn. Nobody wants to be around a limp-dick unicorn. They are no fun. As, for us going. You are right, we will be gone. It will be all career,but remember your Chief and those in higher power are hiring a lot of us *ticks*. So, you will be working with former volunteer firefighters and EMTs. I really hope you change before we all get hired. Otherwise, there is going to be a lot of lonely dinners for you. I think it's adorable that any of the firefighters in PWC think they are a real fire department. The DFR paid guys are office drones who sometimes get to squirt water from the outside of the house and the volunteers (with a few individual exceptions) are equally useless. Keep hitting it hard from the yard and pretending you are a NOVA fire department.

So all I got from this post that a garbage pwc firefighter emt with issues ranted about volunteers, In reality UFR will not end volunteering in PWC it will slowly end in time as people lives get busier, the UFR will weed out some shitties, but volunteering will still be around. PWC is renowned career and volunteer as a not so stellar system subpar to say the least and this post just confirms it. I work as a paid paramedic and do once a month volunteer medic shift in baltimore, I used to associate with OWL, and all I can say about the department is the schedule is terrible to work with for me and the enviroment is not a fun one to be in, OWL damages itself with recruiting due to its aggressive sexism and creeper members and a overall negative mentality from some of its members hopefully it will improve as a département. OWL currently shoots itself in its own foot with its attitudes. Thats my two cents. Also ps most volunteers are paid elsewhere, sooo I dont get this giys argument.

There is a night a day difference between volunteer training and career training. Ditto for accountability, discipline issues etc. Until you go through a career academy, you wouldn't understand.

TO ALL THE CITIZENS WHO LIVE IN PWC AND ARE READING THIS I HAVE SOME ADVICE FOR YOU. If your house ever catches on fire and you live on the west side, do yourself a favor and call Manassas City, or Manassas Park firehouse directly and report the issue. And if your house catches on fire on the east side, call a Quantico, or Fairfax firehouse and report the issue.

I feel sorry for everyone up there dealing with this. Back when I was with DCVFD we got along pretty good with the career staff. Many times, we would relieve them on a fire ground so they could go home. They would do the same for us. We backed each other up and treated each other as equals. I remember going through training and some of the paid guys would stay late after their shifts to give me some pointers and advise. Why? Because we were all brothers back then!!! This is a classic example of a piss poor attitude that is a direct result of leadership. The fire "chief" up there has obviously poisoned his people against what was once a pretty thriving system. This guy seems to have made it his mission to destroy a good thing so his Union brothers can take over. Just one more example of why unions need leashes. Now the citizens up there are going to suffer the most from this disaster. So glad I got out of that place!

From what I understand, isn't the real problem some of the trucks are not able to go to emergencies at night if the volunteers don't actually show up? I went with my boyfriend to a station one evening and the firefighters told us there was no one to drive the truck! Someone said that specialty trucks or something have to be called from Fairfax County because there are not enough volunteers to have people on them here. I don't care who shows up, I just want to know a fire crew will come when they're needed. It scares me to know that there might not be enough volunteers at night to answer an emergency.

Now there are some good fireman in PWC paid and volunteer but I would put ALL VOLUNTEER houses in PG COUNTY against PWC any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Those boys are aggressive firefighters and constantly train. I've seen incidents of fires where the paid staff are bumbling around and jet things burn. So don't think you are all big and bad because you're a paid fireman and especially in PWC.

I mean we could bring up 13588 Dodsworth drive fire. A report of kids possibly still inside the house and the PWCDFR staffing Rescue 4 refused to go inside to perform a rapid search without a hose line.

I find a majority of these comments VERY offensive. I've been a firefighter for 1 year in PWC, and I can say nothing but good things about this department. I just recently got cleared to ride OIC. Yes, I may only have 1 year of experience, but I took the necessary classes and got all the experience I feel I need from those classes to be the unit OIC. We were taught in the academy that our safety is #1. So why would I run to the fire apparatus, or risk my life to run into a burning building to save someone??? On top of that, we were taught in the academy that fire is VERY HOT and DANGEROUS, and that the best possible way to prevent injuries is to stay stationary ouside a make a transitional attack, and wait for units from surrounding jurisdictions to make entry. People ask me all the time why I never make my guys pull a handline for a reported house on fire. Its simple.... ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS TO RERACK, and that goes for supply line as well. PWC firefighters are the MOST obedient, and confident fireifghters on the east coast. I don't personally have a problem with the volunteers in PWC. Im just offended by all the negativity.

As a Prince William County tax payer and a former volunteer of over 20 years I will be sending this to my BOCS representatives and Chief McGee for further action. Don't forget where you came from. Hypocrisy, Google it.

Good news: I'm convinced the OP is nothing more than a troll trying to get everyone stirred up, and it seems he did a good job at the one thing he does best. He's not a firefighter, can't be! He's fooled you all! You see, a real firefighter wouldn't "say" what came off of this internet hero's fingers. A real firefighter would be too busy training (always train) and helping the public... to engage in a "Mine's bigger than yours!" battle with volunteers. A real firefighter would spend their downtime reviewing videos and reports to make themselves, and others, better and more efficient in the fight. A real firefighter is trained to work well in a team environment, supporting his brothers and sisters and being a link in a much larger chain. That's what real firefighters do. You see, this guy's nothing more than a "Joe" behind a screen and a keyboard. Maybe he tried to get hired and they discovered who he is. Maybe then he tried to volunteer, and couldn't get in! Hey, who am I to judge. But I assure you, he's not a real firefighter.

I've known many real firefighters in my time: I like to think I was one. Some are paid and some are volunteers. Some go home with a paycheck and benefits, others go home simply knowing they did a good job. But they all go into burning buildings to squirt water on the fire. They all do searches, pulling pets and people out. They all do overhaul, cut cars open to pull people out, get people out of rivers, lift patients and provide medical. They all do it (for the most part) exceptionally well. And with some exceptions, they're all professional.

Let's talk about that word: professional. PWC DFR 4EVA is relieved that the department will be run by "true professionals". I ask: are these the same "professionals" as the OP? If the OP truly is a paid firefighter, then I fear for the citizens within that district. That word "professional" goes deeper than the dictionary definition of being paid to do something. It's HOW you do something, you're view on it and how you handle yourself. If this person truly lacks the general regard for public safety displayed here by his/her blatant ignorance and hatred of volunteers-- people doing the same thing for (hopefully) the same reasons with less resources and manpower-- that begs the question: what the hell are they doing in a (paid) public safety career?

Tell ya what... on my box, I'll take the professional firefighter. Volunteer or paid, I couldn't care less as long as they show up trained, competent, prepared and ready to work as a team member. I am very pleased to see that my points have sparked quite a discussion. I do find it very good that out of all of the volunteer comments, no one disputes what is going to happen. DFR will be taking over and ticks will be exterminated. When i think about the volunteers, I equate them to bedbugs in that they are both useless, annoying pests that take forever to get rid of.

The vitriol, filth, and in-fighting in some of these posts is an embarrassment to any self-respecting ff, medic, or EMT in the county, both volunteer and career.

What EgoKills means is that presenting these positions in public is frowned upon by upper management. We are only allowed to discuss these things behind closed doors. Discussions of volunteer incompetence shall only take place in private. It was not long ago that we had a meeting where upper management told us NOT to help the volly ticks. I can think of many times we have laughed at something stupid some tick did or complained about how they dont staff units, etc. We have been planning for this takeover for a long time. It is odd that everyone wants to deny it until it happens.

I do like the volly refusal to believe what is occurring and believing that we are all one happy family (or most of us). It is not true. Just as you don't like bedbugs in your house, we don't like volunteerbugs in ours. I am just tired of pretending and then talking honestly behind their backs. I want them to know and I wish everyone else would be honest as well.

Yes, you should be so pleased that your Chief had to write an apology letter for your toddler outburst. Don't flatter yourself kid. If you want to be taken seriously you should act your age and defend your reasoning articulately. As of right now you are acting unintelligent and showing how unprofessional you are. Instructor Gottman is a volunteer, isn't he? I'm pretty sure that man has been doing this shit since before a lot of you ass hats even were a twinkle in your father's eye. Who the fuck cares if you're DFR or Volunteer you all should have the same damn idea of what riding the rig is. PG Volly is also right we have zero fucking fires in this county so theirs no point in this pissing contest. Also, there are a lot of good career and volunteer men and women here but you're not in the FDNY or Kentland so don't act like you are because those guys are humble about the work they do and the fires they put out they don't try to be the salty dog because what matters is that you get along with those who you work around because your lives are both equally important.
