I had a root canal done and dropped my presciption off at Walgreens on Main Street ( the one by T.J Maxx) While waiting I was approached by some guy to register to vote right outside the store, wasn't really thinking correctly and stupidly did it.
The was on the 14th... 2 days ago I recieved a phone call from a detective in Texas saying a Maria Garcia had used my social security number to secure an apartment. In 37 years no one has EVER managed to steal my S.S number and this happens after I give it to some guy outside Walgreens.
Yes, I was actually registered to vote. The guy was legit but is registering you to vote and stealing your s.s number at the same time. Little jerk off has read too much Nietzche and has some 100k in student loan debt to pay off.
He was working for Organizing for America. Don't trust any of them.

Voter registration does not require a SSN. You were scammed.

I'm thinking the OP could have been duped for more than just her/his SSN. Why, if you are already registered to vote would you give your information to some person on the street?

These two events may not even be connected- if the OP re-registered to vote for no reason, I could imagine that he may have been careless with his SSN in the past, perhaps in Texas?

Uh, somebody stole mine (through a co-employment company that we used) and used it to support that they were a US citizen for work purposes as well as a bunch of other legal documents. The only reason that I found out was that I got W2s for places that I never worked. Dumbass.
