So let's clarify. Are we talking about the mall or the people using it? I've been working on the infrastructure of all the malls in the dc area for 15 years. Tyson's 1 and 2 have been top notch for maintenance for some time. The shoppers drive me nuts. Young, wealthy as a rule, and not easy to work around. Mostly foreign. Springfield was a total pit for 20 years. A new owner took over a couple of years ago and they rebuilt it into something really nice. After years of slum like conditions, it stays a bit empty and many spaces are vacant. Locals are mostly using it. Mannassas, a poor mans Springfield mall owened by the same people and now under new ownership and doing well. Same shoppers as Potomac mills. Potomac mills was a second rate shack with Ikea being the anchor for many years. Buses rolled in with tourist as all the stuff was cheap. Big retailers dumped out of date leftovers and seconds at discounted prices. But as it became more popular, the retailers started making it a normal sales outlet. As prices became more retail price wise, the buses stopped. The owners really fixed the place up. It's clean and generally safe, though I've seen some real getto style fights on occasion as Woodbridge is a pit and the locals do bring it down a bit. But the stores are nice and they have a good mix. There are a lot of stores. I don't like the "neighborhood maps" which dont give you actual locations for specific stores but area's they are in. Sucks finding things. Pentagon mall is ritzy on the surface, but I find it a royal pain in the ass and wouldn't go there if I didnt have to. Lot's of getto trash drawn to crimes of opportunity and then back over the river. Maintenance is piss poor considering how much money they make. Fair oaks similar to Tysons on all accounts but less foreign trust fund babies, and smaller. Over all, I prefer strip malls and the new "outside" style malls found elsewhere. Believe it or not, the racial make-up of all the malls are relatively the same overall. Minorities love designer clothes and food court Buffett. I've been all over the world and I can say that we have the best dressed and best feed underclass in the world bar non. When you don't have to work, get section 8 housing, EBT cards, you can roam the malls all day in your slippers and pajamas looking for that exact Christian dior ensemble for nights in the hood. Happy shopping.
