Would you consider Potomac Mills...

...to be ghetto? I walked in there for the first time in about 10 years this past weekend, and was appalled to see what happened to the mall. Ikea seems to be the only redeeming factor in that area.

Back to Tysons I for me.

Potomac Mills Mall is less ghetto than Springfield Mall.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Care to elaborate on this thread?

What it all comes down to is, PEOPLE are having serious problems getting along with other PEOPLE. There is always going to be lack of respect, racial tension and CRIME.

Times have changed and evolved.

Mall Security can only do so much but, can't stop CRIME only, prevent it.

I saw great diversity there. However, my question has nothing to do with racial tensions (at least for me).

Unfortunately, I also saw drugs in the parking lot, damaged parts of the building and substandard facilities inside the mall.

It's true that mall security can only go so far to prevent crime, but look at Tysons, or even Pentagon City. Those have great business and are thriving. PM looks to be going to the shithole along with Springfield and Landmark.

Honestly, it has everything to do with the racial makeup of the Woodbridge area. Hate to say this, but as long as there are blacks in and around Dale City/Woodbridge, there will be that kind of activity at Potomac Mills. Sad to see it go the way we are, but that's the unfortunate truth.

THANK YOU for actually speaking the truth. Good to see that somebody isn't afraid of being vocal about these controversial topics.

As soon as Ikea left the mall and set up their own building, Potomac Mills went rapidly down hill. If I need anything Ikea related, I'll go down there - and only to Ikea. If I'm looking for outlet shopping, which I rarely am, Leasburg is the best option.

I think most all Ikeas are stand alone units. The one in College Park certainly is.

Look at who's shopping there and look at the economy. The food court is almost entirely ethnic food now. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but gone are Rypiens, A&W, Taco Bell, Burger King etc.... mall staples. Many many discount stores as others pack it up. Bed Bath and Beyond, Sports Authority are both nice anchors in an enclosed outlet mall but gone. That Nordstrom Rack only puts out one shoe at a time so people can't steal the other. Proliferation of shoe store and urban clothing stores, massage places, etc. Bloomingdales and Bobby Flay are taking massive gambles moving in there. Leesburg is always going to be my preferred outlet mall but there's no wawa or Waffle House out there...

Where blacks go, crime follows. Deny it all you want, but it's a fact. Black America needs to step it up and dump the attitudes of Sharpton and Jackson's of the world if there's to be any hope of progress.

Bullcrap. Blacks didn't suddenly appear in Woodbridge. They've been there for a while.

Potomac Mills' problem is that it started out to be a desination shopping location where people with money from all over would travel to. At one point it was the #1 tourist destination in Virginia. Then shopping habits changed and now the mall relies on locals not only to work there but to shop there as well.

Potomac Mills Mall is what you call an Average Mall, it doesnt look like it belongs in Northern Virginia, but it looks like it'd belong in Georgia or North Carolina. Stop being in denial, You're just not used to being in the south as mich (cause Nova isnt in da south)

I can't believe what I'm reading. Racism alive and well I see. I saw clean floors and restrooms at Potomac Mills Mall. What race has to do with it is beyond me. I'm truly sickened to hear and read such continued ignorance. News flash! White folk commit crimes! They just have the luxury of getting away with it much easier. FYI I'm white with a diverse group of friends so I know for a fact we get looked over as suspects of wrong doing.

You have the right to play with your nigger friends, but you will learn after you get burned. The great social experiment has failed miserably.

The white slave owners of the old south knew what they were dealing with, and took the actions to keep them in line, and under control.

So let's clarify. Are we talking about the mall or the people using it? I've been working on the infrastructure of all the malls in the dc area for 15 years. Tyson's 1 and 2 have been top notch for maintenance for some time. The shoppers drive me nuts. Young, wealthy as a rule, and not easy to work around. Mostly foreign. Springfield was a total pit for 20 years. A new owner took over a couple of years ago and they rebuilt it into something really nice. After years of slum like conditions, it stays a bit empty and many spaces are vacant. Locals are mostly using it. Mannassas, a poor mans Springfield mall owened by the same people and now under new ownership and doing well. Same shoppers as Potomac mills. Potomac mills was a second rate shack with Ikea being the anchor for many years. Buses rolled in with tourist as all the stuff was cheap. Big retailers dumped out of date leftovers and seconds at discounted prices. But as it became more popular, the retailers started making it a normal sales outlet. As prices became more retail price wise, the buses stopped. The owners really fixed the place up. It's clean and generally safe, though I've seen some real getto style fights on occasion as Woodbridge is a pit and the locals do bring it down a bit. But the stores are nice and they have a good mix. There are a lot of stores. I don't like the "neighborhood maps" which dont give you actual locations for specific stores but area's they are in. Sucks finding things. Pentagon mall is ritzy on the surface, but I find it a royal pain in the ass and wouldn't go there if I didnt have to. Lot's of getto trash drawn to crimes of opportunity and then back over the river. Maintenance is piss poor considering how much money they make. Fair oaks similar to Tysons on all accounts but less foreign trust fund babies, and smaller. Over all, I prefer strip malls and the new "outside" style malls found elsewhere. Believe it or not, the racial make-up of all the malls are relatively the same overall. Minorities love designer clothes and food court Buffett. I've been all over the world and I can say that we have the best dressed and best feed underclass in the world bar non. When you don't have to work, get section 8 housing, EBT cards, you can roam the malls all day in your slippers and pajamas looking for that exact Christian dior ensemble for nights in the hood. Happy shopping.

fuck off. in that area you have crime sprees lie: robbing 6 hair cutting shops in a row before the money is taken to the bank - one evening, two criminals

were they white? no.

they are completely justified in expecting blacks and hispanics to play by the same rules OR

the rules are going to change and they are going to make the blacks and hispanics hurt for pulling their dick for so long

got it?

Ahahahahaha! Dude Potomac mills started out an outlet mall, where people would go to 'SAVE' money. It never attracted people that had money. My ex worked there for years at different stores and she hated it because the mall owners were always to cheap to run A/C, or climate control.

Talk about reviving the dead. I posted that back in 2012.

"It never attracted people that had money." I guess that depends on how you define having money. Today recreational shoppers and bargain hunters surf the net. In the 1980s and 1990s shopping at outlet malls was a common recreation for many.

Funny how everyone calls Potomac Mills ghetto because of all the nonwhites yet if you go to Tysons mall more than 50 percent of the shoppers are minorities. Probably 25 percent Arabs.
