Manual vs. Automatic in this area

What do you guys think of driving a car with a manual or an automatic transmission around here? I've been driving an automatic Civic which is a little but sluggish. I've thought about getting something with a manual and a bit of pep, but is that a bad idea in this area? I'm thinking that it might be too tedious to drive stick during rush hour.

Does anybody regret driving a manual?

The only thing that sucks about manual is stop and go traffic.. Pressing down the clutch a million times gets old fast.

I drive a manual. I simply avoid traffic, so the stop-and-go issue doesn't really bother me.

I have had several manual transmissions and find them disappointing in this area. Traffic is sufficiently challenging so that little fun is had with driving. And the gas mileage savings are negligible - especially again with the traffic. And with the amount of stop and go driving here, I replaced a few clutches at some expense - especially the last vehicle - a FORD Explorer SUV - a well cared for automatic would have lasted longer in each case without the repair expense. As much as I viscerally tend to like the idea of a manual transmission, I will not buy one again until retirement to a rural or less populated area - where I can truly enjoy a sports car. I am an environmental disaster - four cars right now - and for the first time - none are automatic.

I had a stick when I first moved here. I went through two clutches in three years. Now I drive an automatic.

Manual or Automatic, people in this area will fuck your shit up either way at some point. Rt. 7 on Sat afternoons has turned into a derby show.

Started on a manual when i was 16...moved to an auto by 18...back to a manual at 31. If you're getting the manual..make sure it's worth it, get some power behind it. Nothing worse than a weak 4-cyl manual.

Love the manual btw. I sit in negligible traffic, try to find the route that keeps moving, not necessarily the fastest.

Just don't talk on the phone while driving, or use a bluetooth or ear bud...common sense for that issue.

If I lived anywhere else, id most likely have a manual.
My ole' beater 94 accord has 220,000 miles on it. That is the equivalent of driving around the world(oceans and all) almost 9 times.
Original transmission. Infact the last 10k miles its given me with a cracked transmission, no strange sounds, no slipping.. and somehow its not leaking fluid.

The mechanic I go to told me about it, and suggested not even getting the oil changed.

I knew I shouldn't of gone off-roading in it, but hey.. it was fun!
Lets just say I was not easy on this car, Honda's are like tanks.
